Are you sick of the gender stereotyping found in children's clothing? Girls need to wear pink, boys should wear blue. Princesses for girls, and spaceships for boys.
Are you tired of the same old designs rehashed year after year?
Our inspirational line of glow-in-the-dark kid's clothes are for every child, regardless of gender.
We know kids LOVE superheroes (heck - who doesn’t?), so we started asking ourselves: “If kids can fall in love with a fictional hero, why not give them REAL heroes to latch onto?"
Very often, kids don’t find out about how influential historical figures can be to our lives until they’re older, and we want to get them excited about science and history at the earliest age possible.
To accomplish this, we're offering sizes for the whole family: babies, kids, and adults. The one thing kids do every single day is get dressed, why not take that opportunity to inspire and encourage them?
In selecting our first six heroes, we chose people with great ideas and imaginations who defied conventional thinking.
Marie Curie was the first female to be awarded a Nobel Prize during a time when it was unheard of for a woman to be in a lab. She then went on to win a second prize.
Nicola Tesla discovered AC power and theorized ways to harness wireless communications long before the invention of modern smartphones.
Jules Verne imagined today's world yesterday, describing fantastic inventions and inspiring the world to make the illogical logical.
George Washington Carver, a former slave, became a professor of botany and went on to save the South’s entire agricultural system from collapse.
Ada Lovelace, considered to be the original computer programmer, wrote the first algorithm for a mechanical analytical engine.
Galileo Galilei risked execution by leading the scientific revolution during the Renaissance.
Even though the world tried to hold them back, each of these heroes insisted on being themselves. We want our apparel to reflect that bold independence. Our shirts give kids a portal to the discoveries that shaped the world we live in so they can have adventures of their own.
We're even including our very own 12-page activity book with our shirts that will hopefully launch your child on a voyage through history.
As a thank you for pledging anything more than $35, we'll also include a Tesla tote.
A survey will be sent out to all backers who selected a t-shirt reward so they can select the size(s) and color(s) they’d like.
We’ll begin production of these six designs as soon as our Kickstarter reaches its initial goal of $10,000. That’s the amount we’ll need to turn our small online shop into a clothing company whose intelligent, inspiring clothing will someday be in stores all across the country.
Why We Need Your Support
Approximately half of the funding will go toward the production of shirts for the backers who first supported us, and the other half will go towards funding the growth of our support staff and our production and fulfillment departments.
This includes hiring babysitters, so we can work full time on Nerdy With Children.
We believe you want kids’ clothes that are uplifting, meaningful, expressive and stylish. Show us we’re right!
We began Nerdy With Children as an entrepreneur and a teacher with one simple goal: to create the clothes we wanted our kids to wear.
When the two of us had babies just a few months apart, it didn’t take long to discover the age-old problem with kids’ clothes: there’s a lot of cute out there, but not a lot of substance. We get it: cute sells. Don’t get us wrong, there are koala and monkey jammies in our kids’ closets -- but we don’t think that’s all there should be.
Currently, we both work remotely from home while raising our kids. Fueled by a daily cocktail of coffee, stubbornness, and love for our products, we've watched our company grow from that first tiny seed of an idea to a successful online storefront and a booth at Tampa Bay Comicon.
It was at Comicon where we first sold our products side-by-side, and also where we first hatched the idea of giving real kids real heroes.
Use our hashtags #Nerdywithchildren and #RealHeroesRealKids to spread the word about our Kickstarter and speak to us. We'd love to hear your stories on how your family fell in love with science.

Risks and challenges
For the past year we've molded and shaped our dream into a clothing line. We've built relationships with our printer and designers, and we're ready to turn this project into our full-time career.
We have awesome designs, and we have a concept and a vision that we really believe in. What happens with this campaign will determine what's next for us. Once our Kickstarter is completed, we will submit the final order and it will take 45-90 days for the order to be fulfilled.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
