‘Ello there! I’m Nick Prolix and since 2016 I’ve been self-publishing my one-person anthology comic, Slang Pictorial.
This latest issue, Slang Pictorial #3 is 24 pages of classic black-and-white cartooning and I'm on Kickstarter asking for your support to pay for the comic's printing and shipping.

- LISTEN to me chat with comics scholar and podcaster Derek Royal about my Kickstarter over on The Comics Alternative
As well as printing Slang Pictorial #3 I'll also be re-printing Slang Pictorial #1 and #2 which are also available through the rewards for folks that want to get caught up on the story so far.
As for Slang Pictorial #3, all but a last handful of pages are inked and lettered and the entire issue will be complete and ready to print by the time this Kickstarter closes. Your support is all that's needed before the book can be in the hands of people who will enjoy it. Folks like you!
Slang Pictorial is my one-person anthology comic in which I serialize the retro comedy-drama The Sheep And The Wolves, a light-hearted look at the broken dreams and busted schemes of the many residents of a fictional London neighborhood at the start of the Swinging Sixties, as well as assorted other stories set in the same world.
Here's what critics and reviewers have had to say about the series so far:
- "Packed full of idiosyncratic and hip characters, each formed between some iconic, hip cartooning and even more sparky dialogue." - Tony Esmond, Down The Tubes
- "The rich setting and fascinating characters draw the reader in." - Ben Howard, Graphic Policy
- "Part black comedy and part crime caper The Sheep and the Wolves is original, it sets itself apart with its wit and its clever writing." - Jay Brown, Pipedream Comics

Just like issues 1 and 2, Slang Pictorial #3 is an 8.3 x 5.8 inch landscape comic with 24-pages of black-and-white art that harks back to classic newspaper strips, kitchen sink dramas and classic British comedy, think Minder or Only Fools And Horses but with much much more diversity!
I produce every aspect of the comic myself, from soup to nuts! As well as writing each story I pencil and ink traditionally. I even hand letter the comic, which is a bit of a rarity these days, but is fitting for a comic steeped in nostalgia.
Until now I have funded the printing of issues 1 and 2 entirely myself thru sales made online and by tabling at conventions. Last year I tabled at 10 events and had an absolute blast meeting new readers and recognising returning fans. I'm coming to Kickstarter for issue 3 partly to defray the production costs of issue 3 but also to reprint issue 1 which has sold out for the second time!
My biggest reason tho, for finally dipping my toe into the crowdfunding waters is to connect with even more new readers. There really is nothing like seeing comic fans share their responses to your work!
The reward tiers are all built around giving you the freedom to connect with Slang Pictorial in whatever way you prefer, whether you're a first time reader or a returning fan. If you like your comics digital or love physical books there's a tier for you and I've also included some Add-ON rewards that can be included with any pledge! There's even the opportunity to make a cameo appearance in the issue itself!
B-movie strongman Vic Corinth is the protagonist in the back-up serial Atlas Unfettered which began in Slang Pictorial #2 and continues in issue 3 and Russell has brought to life one of Vic's movie posters which now that we've passed £700 will be a second A4 art print for all tiers that include the Exclusive Kickstarter Art print rewards!
GUEST ARTIST POSTCARDS! I am super chuffed to be able to announce that I have not one, not two, not even three guest artists but FOUR fantastic illustrators lined up to produce a set of The Sheep And The Wolves art cards! Jason Garrattley (Kirby-Vision), Susie Gander (Perrywinkle), Darrell Thorpe (Freedoom) and Owen Sherwood (The Plight of Tony Featherneck) have finished their designs, and now that we've passed the £900+ mark the four-card set will be available to everyone that backs at any £12 Bundle tier or above.
THANK YOU for reading, and if you've got any questions please do get in touch - twitter.com/nickprolix - and I'll be only to happy to help!

Risks and challenges
The risks are minimal on this project. The issue is 80% inked and the remaining pages should be completed and ready to print soon after the campaign ends. All rewards and Kickstarter exclusives will go into production as soon as the campaign funds clear and I hope to be able to fulfill all rewards, draw all sketches and sign every comic within 8 weeks from when I receive the funding.
If there are any unforeseen problems, I will be transparent and upfront about it, while keeping all backers updated as I solve them.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
