About this project
You guys did it! You guys helped to successfully fund Dark Things! So, now with 23 days to go, what will we do? Simple: I think we can make it to $1500--and it won't be for nothing. Many people have expressed interest in the "paranormal" nature of our project. You see, we're filming at a 126 year old Victorian mansion that has been confirmed for paranormal activity and we would like to document our journey into the realm of the supernatural. So, in light of our rapid funding and ever-generous backers we would like to offer something else: a documentary of our journey through this haunted mansion as we film Dark Things. Now more than ever we need your support! If you'd like, share this Kickstarter on your Facebook, Tweet it, Instagram it, anything at all counts!
Update #1: All we can say is WOW! In only 5 days we have received 64% of our funding! You guys are amazing! It means so much to everyone involved to receive this kind of support so early. We are all humbled to have so many generous people wanting to see us complete this project!
It's in the shadows...
Brooke and Grant, a young Midwestern couple, live a simple life with their daughter Riley until mysterious circumstances prompt Grant to move the family 100 miles away. While packing, Brooke finds a mysterious box that may connect her husband to a local unsolved murder. Her fight to save her daughter and herself culminate explosively in this new short film from Nick Corbin.
This is Nick Corbin’s third short film as director, and second short film as musical composer, which affords YOU, the donor, a few pieces of mind:
—THIS ISN’T JUST A HOBBY
Filmmaking is fun; it’s the reason many start in the first place. Wonderful high-definition cameras are now affordable, meaning projects deemed unimaginable for the indie filmmaker 6 years ago are commonplace today. This means two things for indie filmmakers: filmmaking is easier and harder than ever. Simply put: a consumer’s overwhelming choice for content makes it difficult to be noticed. Here is where we differ: the team behind Dark Things has worked together for many short films and other commercial projects, and professional actors with a combined 20 years of stage and film experience comprise the cast of Dark Things. We love to make films and have practiced our craft and technique for years ensuring a polished final product so that every one of YOU will be proud to have donated!
(For example, we shot the teaser above in just three hours with no budget with the same cast and crew that will shoot and star in Dark Things!)
—WE KNOW WHAT WE ARE CAPABLE OF
Many indie filmmakers attempt to make full-length feature films with very small budgets, and most of the time this is a mistake. Full-length films are simply massive projects that require tens of thousands of dollars and hundreds of people. Just as many novelists practiced their craft with short stories, many indie filmmakers create short films. It’s an incredible exercise in the power of storytelling—it forces a filmmaker to create a rich, entertaining, and believable universe in 1/3 of the usual film runtime. The cast and crew of Dark Things understands the scope and magnitude of the script and exactly what must be done in order to create a worthy product for donors like YOU!
WHY SHOULD YOU DONATE?
Kickstarter is a wonderful venue through which many filmmakers have realized their dreams through generous donations from people just like YOU, for that reason we wanted to be part of the community. Through kickstarter filmmakers must bare their souls to the public, they have to detail their projects and explain exactly what path their films are expected to take. Through direct communication with donors like YOU filmmakers are able to receive feedback that is otherwise lost in the cacophony of online contact. We are able to discover EXACTLY what fans and donors want to see—we are able to make our films for YOU.
We hope you'll join us in bringing Dark Things to life.

Risks and challenges
Risk is a synonym for art--especially in the world of independent art. Anytime a person decides to commit themselves to an independent project they assume responsibility for what could be a massive failure--or a dark horse triumph. Risk assessment is a billion-dollar industry, and with good reason: predicting what may or may not happen could be the difference between an enormous gain or a colossal loss. The cast and crew of Dark Things understands the risk involved in independent filmmaking, and that's why we've done all that can be done to minimize our risks and maximize our gains. The biggest risk so far is this, our Kickstarter campaign. We have faith in our integrity, the quality of our product, and our dedication to entertaining people throughout the world. We hope you have the same faith in us.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
