Some movie clichés are necessary. Others are just the result of lazy screenwriting. But they're always fun to predict and spot! That's why we turned over 200 of them into playing cards!
This is no complex game. No big strategy or complicated rules. But when you have friends over to watch a movie and you add "Movie Clichés" to the mix, you will have lots of fun!
We came up with several simple ways to play with Movie Clichés and we'll put them all in the box. But we also hope the cards will inspire you to come up with your own ideas how to have fun and celebrate movie silliness.
Here are some of our suggestions:
As Action and Horror are the most cliché-filled genres, most cards fall into these categories. Therefore Action and Horror are also available as Standalone editions, whereas Comedy and SciFi & Fantasy are only available in the COMPLETE Edition. The Action and Horror cards included in the COMPLETE Edition are identical to the ones in the Standalone editions. The size of the cards is 63 x 88 mm (2.5 × 3.5 inches).
Because we already unlocked all Stretch Goal cards with still a couple of days to go, I decided that we will add another 20 cards to the Complete Edition (now 270 cards).
And YOU get to decide what they are!
Until our Kickstarter ends this Tuesday you can post suggestions for additional Movie Clichés that you think should be included in the game. And if we turn your cliché into a card you win the original framed artwork for it signed by Anna-Maria and Joscha Sauer!
If there are multiple people suggesting the same cliché we'll pick a random winner. And (just to be fair) please don't post more than 10 suggestions each.
We need FIVE additional clichés for each genre: 5 Action clichés, 5 Horror clichés, 5 Comedy Clichés and 5 SciFi or Fantasy clichés.
Post your suggestions in the comments on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram! (NOT HERE on Kickstarter!) The winners will be notified a couple of days after the Kickstarter ended.
My name is Joscha Sauer and I'm a director and cartoonist living in Frankfurt/Germany. For the last 20 years I've been drawing a cartoon series called NICHTLUSTIG (which means NOTFUNNY in German). Three years ago I produced an animated series based on my cartoons with the help of over 12.000 backers here on Kickstarter!
I have wanted to make a card game about Movie Clichés for a long time. And for even longer I've wanted to work with my talented friend Anna-Maria Jung. She's an amazing artist from Austria and has been publishing books and illustrations for over ten years now. Maybe you already saw some of her very cool shirt designs online...
When she's not drawing, Anna-Maria loves to hang out at LARP weekenders and she's also a huge movie nerd. So I knew right away she was the perfect fit to illustrate the Movie Cliché cards. I collected and scribbled ideas for the clichés while Anna-Maria started doodling characters and designs for the cards.
Now that we have created most of the artwork, and have picked our card game manufacturer we are ready to go - the only thing missing is the budget for the production of the game itself. And hopefully also some pennies for our humble work.
So if you enjoy movies or card games or spending money on Kickstarter, please consider backing our project!
You have questions or ideas how to make this project even better? Drop us a mail and let us know!
💚 Thank you!
Yes... Well, we pay it for you. But we can only send it out once, so please make sure the address is right and the package doesn't get send back.
If you want your package to be tracked and insured, you can add that option in our Pledge Manager for 3 Euro (∼$ 3,20) after the Kickstarter has ended.
Risks and challenges
This is my first card game. But it's not my first Kickstarter.
I've been creating books and merchandise for almost 20 years. Three years ago I ran a Kickstarter campaign for an animated series which included DVDs, books, posters and other things. And even though we had to deliver these rewards to over 10.000 backers, everything worked out great! We learned a lot from this experience, so producing and delivering a card game will (hopefully) be rather easy in comparison.
