Being an entrepreneur means different things to different people. To me, it means being able to create something from nothing. I've been inspired by so many women during my own journey of entrepreneurship, which is the reason why this project was born.
The women in Toasted are everyday entrepreneurs; they're approachable, real, and aren't afraid of a little hard work. I want to highlight these women and their passions in a fun, artistic way because their stories are inspiring. I think it will encourage other women to start their own ventures.
Here is a sneak peek at some of the girls who will be gracing the pages of Toasted. Note: These images will not appear in the actual book. We have something amazing planned for that. A portion of the Kickstarter proceeds will go towards hiring a photographer and digitally enhancing the photos we take into wildly imaginative scenes.
The cocktails in Toasted will be inspired by each entrepreneur. To whet your appetite, feel free to browse the cocktail recipes I've already covered on my lifestyle blog, Vanilla Extract.
I'll be working with an excellent print shop out of Berkeley, CA that specializes in beautiful photography books. Working with a local printer ensures that Toasted is produced in a timely manner with no international shipping delays.
If we only raise our minimum funding goal, the book will be a large softcover. The softcover will look amazing on your coffee table, however, the more money that's pledged, the more we'll be able to spend on each book. We hope to raise enough to produce a large, wrapped hard cover version of Toasted. This upgrade will go out to EVERYONE who backs the project from the $45 tier and up. So please share this project as much as you can so more people can contribute and everyone can receive the upgrade!
While the book itself is the main reward, I'm also offering prints of the entrepreneurs, your name in the actual book, and at the higher levels, a custom logo by Blinc Agency as well as an in-person ideation session in San Francisco. (Airfare and lodging included!) Read more about these rewards to the right.
This Kickstarter project is for the Toasted book, however, that's just the beginning. I want to feature women entrepreneurs from all over the world on our website so we can continue to celebrate women everywhere.
Risks and challenges
Producing a book like Toasted won't be easy, but I know it's something I can handle. My own journey of entrepreneurship has prepared me for the organization, coordination, crisis handling, and hard work it's going to take to make this happen. But first we need to meet our goal. Kickstarter is an all-or-nothing platform, which is the scary part. If we don't receive the full funding, Toasted won't become a reality.
