About this project
- Technical section - as the tech features of the different 8-bit platforms and the graphic chip-set are key factors in both pixelling and properly viewing retro pixel art, it's a science in itself. Therefore we have devoted a couple of pages to explain some facts and details on the different platforms. We are happy to announce Philip "pepto" Timmermann as the expert to explain about the c64 palette. Other platforms will of course also be included!
- Stretch goals - it has been amazing to see one goal after another being crushed by devoted backers! The question is, will the Chip music CD become real, and what are the other goals? :-)
- Artist update! As this project is a work in process, some content and artist adjustments have been made! Amstrad artist Beb (France) and Atari artist Ripek (Poland) were added, the c64 artist Oys (Sweden) was removed.
- Vandalism News #65 - the wonderful c64 mag recently released a new issue featuring an article about the making of Masters of Pixel Art vol 2. Read all about it! http://csdb.dk/release/?id=150629
IDG.se - one of Sweden's larger IT-news corporation posted an article (swedish only): http://www.idg.se/2.1085/1.666001/bok-grafik-commodore-64
...and later also a video mentioning the book: https://www.facebook.com/10154453657911147

The second book in the Masters of Pixel Art series is here!
This is the direct sequel to The Masters of Pixel Art volume 1, a successful Kickstarter project released earlier this year. The Masters of Pixel Art series is a dedication to all pixel art, presenting a selection of the very best artworks in an exclusive production.
Volume 2 is an extremely nice collection of Commodore 64 art (mainly), together with images made on other "exotic low-end" machines like the Amstrad CPC, ZX Spectrum, Atari XL-XE, Commodore Plus/4 and MSX.
Many images are presented with background information, comments by the editor and in-depht stories from the artists themselves. The pixel graphics that emerged in the 80's has inspired and created a sub-cultural era of pixelled art, still very active today. This book is an attempt to capture the style and soul of the non-profit fellow creativity of pixel art.
The artists have shared inspiring, interesting and amusing background stories and information about their experience with pixel art. With texts both by the book author and the individual artists themselves, we hope to introduce more background information on compo-winners as well as lesser known pieces. All texts in the book are in English.
We aim to capture the style and masterpieces of the most famous pixel artists, mainly from the demoscene. This book features graphics from the amazing 8-bit computers mentioned before: the Commodore 64, Amstrad CPC, ZX Spectrum, Atari XL-XE, Commodore Plus/4 and MSX.
By self-publishing the Masters of Pixel Art series through the Nicepixel publications label, I am able to keep the retail cost of the book down, while still producing a book of the highest quality. The only catch of self-publishing is that it is necessary for me to raise the money to print the book and finance shipment of the book, and I am therefore turning to the Kickstarter community to help fund the expense involved in producing this book.
The Masters of Pixel Art are:
AcidT*, Archmage, Beb, Carrion, Clone, Deev, Duce, Electric, Helm, ilesj, iLKke, Jailbird, Joe, Kenët, Leon, Louie64, Made, Mermaid, Mirage, Nero, Odyn1ec, Ooz, Pal, Piesiu, pRof, Prowler, ptoing, Redcrab, rexbeng, Ripek, Sander, SIT, Skurwy, Slayer Grafix, STE, Stone, The Sarge, Twoflower, Valsary, Veto, Wayne Schmidt, Yazoo
As mentioned before the images featured are mainly from the c64.
However, after the addition of Beb (France - Amstrad CPC) and Ripek (Poland - Atari), the initial distribution (with 86% of c64 content) has been updated in the pie chart above.

What does the Timeline look like?
Volume 2 has been in the planning stage since the making of volume 1. The book you're seeing in this project is the result of innumerable hours of iterating and reiterating. I am a perfectionist, and I want to make sure I get this book 100% right.
Below, you'll see a brief outline of the path we're on with the Masters of Pixel Art volume 2, starting from the first sketches on it to when all of you joined the story (and where we go from here)!
We are extremely excited to get the book into your hands! So you can be sure that we're going to continue to work day and night until the very last copy has shipped.
Help out by sharing The Masters of Pixel Art with your friends! (#themastersofpixelart, #nicepixel)

Since we are shipping rewards internationally, there are unique processes that apply specifically to international backers that we'd like you to be aware of. Risks and challenges
This is my second Kickstarter project, and I have learned from my experiences. While I have been relentlessly concerned with the details throughout designing, writing, and planning for production, there is always the chance that Murphy's law will make a surprise entrance.
In the event that things don't go as planned, whether it's a delay in the manufacturing timeline, shipping date, or something else, I promise to communicate honestly with you and work around the clock until the issue is fixed.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Your card will not be charged until the project has come to an end on October 13, with 100% or more funding.
While we will certainly be working non-stop to ensure we get every last backer reward shipped out as early as possible, our target delivery of December 2016 is just that - a target. If you’re familiar with the processes involved in bringing a product through development, you probably know that there are many factors that are outside of our control once we go to production. With our current timeline, we are extremely optimistic that we will be able to deliver before Christmas 2016. We will do everything in our power to avoid shipping later than our goal of December 2016, but the date you will recieve the package can not be guaranteed.
Due to the nature of Kickstarter, we cannot offer refunds to backers once the project ends. Once the campaign ends, your pledges are put to use immediately to ensure that the books are produced as soon as possible. Therefore, we cannot offer refunds once the campaign has ended.
No, but they're quite close! The books you're seeing in our video and images on this page are the final prototypes of our design. The final version will be very close to this, though small changes in layout and design may take place as the work continue.
We wish that we could send the books worldwide for free, but unfortunately (due to the book exceeding certain dimensions and weight) these are the prices we have been quoted by various shipping carriers. In fact, the real shipping prices are higher than what we've listed, as we are trying to subsidize some of the cost.
In the meantime we offer double book packs, which takes the shipping cost per book down a bit.
Best solution is of course the pick-up point option which is free.
In the 3 different COMPLETE KIT description there was a small typo: "All 20 different postcards from Nicepixel + All 40 different postcards from Nicepixel". It was supposed to be "... All 40 different bookmarks ...".
The bullet-point-list and the images are correct, but due to the rules on Kickstarter, rewards (text and prices) cannot be altered when 1 or more persons have backed, therefore the error cannot be corrected.
