The stretch Goal of 170.000 SEK was reached in only 2 days! These features are now added:
- an extra 10 pages added to the book, allowing more space for additional info, images and so on.
- welcome a new artist to the book: Archipics!
- the original pixel artworks (featured in the book) will be available as a convenient download, giving you easy access to further study of all pixel art on your computer.
If we reach this goal, all books will be delivered with an additional stylish pixel art bookmark! We hope you will like it.
Spread the word, and thanks for your support!
This project will produce a book presenting a selection of the very best pixel artwork in an exclusive production. As additional content, many images are presented with background information, comments by the editor and in-depht stories from the artists themselves.
The pixel graphics that emerged in the late 80's and the 90's beginning has inspired and created a sub-cultural era of pixelled art. This book is an attempt to capture the style and soul from that period of non-profit fellow creativity.
My name is Klas Benjaminsson - also known as pixel artist "Prowler". I have been creating pixel art for over 25 years. My love of illustrations, art and computer graphics are reflected into this book, where my aim has been to elevate pixel art in a stylish format.
There has been a lack of designed books where pixel art is properly presented. This will be the book that can be presented along other art- or photo books, helping to show off the real potential of pixel art as well as inspire, impress and inform.
By self-publishing the Masters of Pixel Art book I am able to keep the retail cost of the book down, while still producing a book of the highest quality. The only catch of self-publishing is that it is necessary for me to raise the money to print the book and finance shipment of the book. I am turning to the Kickstarter community to help fund the expense involved in producing this book.
The Masters of Pixel Art book specs:
- 200 pages, covering 48 great pixel artists.
- Over 350 selected pixel images.
- Dimensions: 24 x 30.5 cm (9.5 x 12 inch).
- Quality product: durable hardback cover with textile finish, highest quality paper.
- Kickstarter acknowledgement - get your name in the book as an official backer!
- Clean design and layout.
We aim to capture the style and masterpieces of the most famous pixel artists, mainly from the demoscene. This book features 5-bit colour up to 8-bit colour images (4-bit or below as used by Commodore 64, Amstrad CPC, ZX Spectrum are not included in this book). The pictures presented are mostly created with software running on an Amiga system (OCS & AGA), but also with software for the PC/Mac system and some images created on the Atari system.
The design of the book is laid out to give space and possibility to share inspiring, interesting and amusing background stories and information about the pixel artwork that came to define the early era of pixel design.
With text both by the book author and the individual artists themselves, we hope to introduce more background information on compo-winners as well as lesser known pieces.
All texts in the book are in English.
