The first leather bracelet with 3 NFC chips
Wearable technology is an upcoming trend which is growing very rapidly. Starting with calculator watches in the 1980's, a fast growing trend had started. nowadays you see most people walking around with either a normal watch, or some sort of smart watch wrapped around their wrist. A new trend within the wearable technology market is the NFC Bracelet.
We’re definitely not the first people to think about putting an NFC chip in a bracelet. You might even already own such a bracelet! We think the problem with these bracelets is that 99% of them are made of silicon. This is a cheap and solid solution, but let’s be honest; do they look great? Another thing is that all of these bracelet only have 1 NFC chip in them, opposed to the 3 we will be offering!
So, how does it work?
If you back us with more than 10 Euros, you will get a NFC Leather Bracelet.
To set it up, just visit your phone's app store, and download one of the many great NFC encoding apps, which allow a user-friendly experience in making the NFC Bracelet work for you!
Three chips to customize.
Using three chips allows you to customize the bracelet just the way you want it to operate. Share a contact, add a location and a quick-call command, or turn it into a music controller by using it to skip tracks, play/pause and adjust volume! It's all up to you.
What can I do with it?
You can do just about anything you want!
- Exchange contact details on a conference or at a bar
- Give your child a cool-looking bracelet that contains your contact info in case you lose them at the beach,
- Unlock your phone
- Set an alarm for the next morning
- Quickly open your camera to take a picture
- Check into Facebook
- Connect to your Bluetooth speaker
- Make a quick phone call
- Quickly text your beloved one
- Take a picture
- Open (social) apps
- Anything NFC can do!
Select to write to NFC. Then just tap your phone on the chip to which you would like to assign the specified task. Now when you tap your phone on the chip, the written action will be executed!
It’s that simple. And it is extremely fast to reassign tasks to your chips.
How are they being made?
For the first prototypes we bought leather straps, which is cut to desired length. We then made holes for the press studs. These are hammered in. Afterwards we embedded the chips inside the bracelet where they can’t be seen. We use a burning iron to mark where the chips are located. The marks are distinct so you can remember which task you assigned to what chip.
All bracelets that are going to be shipped will be handcrafted and made to desired length.
Where do the batteries go?
Nowhere! the NFC Bracelet is completely battery-free, so you won't ever need to recharge it!
What size is it?
All backers will get a custom made bracelet. After the kickstarter is over, we’ll contact you so we’ll know how big the bracelet has to be. We are still looking into how we will do the sizing after the project has been funded.
Is it waterproof?
It sure is, and we even have video proof!
Where we're at.
We have prototype bracelets ready. They work and we have been using them on a daily base for a while now. The funds we receive from this kickstarter project will go into optimizing the design and performance. We need tools to be able to embed the chips better and maybe add some decoration.
We are Jordi, Koen and Yorrick. Jordi and Koen are about to start their 2nd year of their Small Business & Retail Management bachelor at the The Hague University, hoping to get their Bachelor of Business Administration in 2017. Yorrick is about to start his 3rd year at the Delft campus of the The Hague University, studying Mechanical Engineering.
The three of us all have a growing passion for technology and gadgets, while also studying to be entrepreneurs and engineers. This why we decided to make this idea of ours into a product.
Yorrick is in charge of product design, while Koen and Jordi take care of the marketing/PR and financing.
Why we need you.
To make a good start, we'll need some supplies. This includes, but isn't limited to:
- The basic supplies to make the bracelets
- Creating a packaging
- Equipment to ease the production process
The money is for the first setup. It will allow us to get this of the ground. It also helps us in being able to improve the design and to create more different variants.
All bracelets will be made in batches, selected per reward category.
Having listened to your feedback, and considering we might raise so much more money than expected to do in the best case, we need to think ahead.
This means we're introducing stretched goals!

€2500,- Switch the button out for a rope!
€5000,- Dedicated apps! We will look in to making our own app for Windows Phone, Android and perhaps even IOS 8. It just depends on whether Apple decides to make the NFC chip in the upcoming iPhone 6 open for developers or not.
Risks and challenges
Whilst we are three enthusiastic students, who are willing to put a lot of effort into this project, a potential risk is that we don't have that much experience with doing something on such a big scale, so the timeline could be stretched a bit.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
