We were inspired to start this project because we read William Kamkwamba's book, 'The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind' this summer and had the pleasure of hearing him speak at our school this fall.

Our goal is to walk in William Kamkwamba's shoes by designing and building a working wind turbine and writing a book about our experience.

This project will be led by the students in Mr. Joslin's Introduction to Engineering Class at the New Hampton School. Although we won't be building an exact replica of Kamkwamba's windmill we believe that it will be exciting to go through a similar process to his.

As we build the wind turbine we will also be learning principles of the engineering and design process. By using Kickstarter we are learning about how to launch a company, bring an idea from concept to reality, and how to secure backing. Through writing a book about our experience we will reflect not only on our technical process but also on the challenges and successes we faced along the way. We hope the book will be informative and inspire other students to dream big, build something exciting, and to share their experience with others!

Any funds we raise beyond our goal will be used for future projects and we might even be able to support other students doing interesting work here on Kickstarter.
