You all know Newfane Gelato from the Brattleboro Farmer's Market, the Bellows Falls market, Gallery Walk and all the other events we do during the summer. You know us from our retail shop The Newfane Market and now you know us from our retail pints that are sold in the Brattleboro Food Co-op, the Putney Co-op and North End Butchers. We have been in discussions with the Vermont Dairy Department and they want us to get a new pasteurizer to comply with archaic rules and regulations that were written in the 1980's. We need to raise $5,500 to purchase the cheapest pasteurizer available and we had the idea of our customers paying it forward, so to speak. All our rewards will be payable in Gelato and will match the retail price as close as possible. So in effect you would be prepaying for your gelato this coming year and we will send out vouchers for each reward to be redeemed at one of our locations. We have to raise $5,500 so if 1,000 of our customers bought a $5 reward we would nearly reach our goal. Or you can purchase a larger reward and get a month or a year's supply of pints in various flavors, even going so far as coming up with your own flavor for us to make and having it named after you for a large reward.
We are a small local business and $5,500 is a lot of money for us to come up with in one go. Without this pasteurizer we could be forced to close our doors so we are asking for you, our loyal customers, to help us build our business and allow us to sell across state lines. We know you love our Gelato so please help us to continue serving our region and keep all you guys happy.
Just so you know, if we don't reach our goal, all monies will be refunded and we'll have to find another way to achieve our goal. Thanks in advance, tell your friends and spread the word via the internet. We can do this.
Everyone gets their money back if we don't reach the goal. If we do make it, we send out vouchers for each reward involved.
We have to pasteurize to comply with Federal law. It makes no real sense because everything we use in our gelato is already pasteurized except for the fruits, nuts and sundry items that the Feds don't care about. They want you to re-pasteurize the final mix that goes into the gelato machine even though it's already pasteurized. If you're saying "well that makes no sense", you're right but laws is laws and even though we've appealed we're fighting powers that are hard to change. Obviously, pasteurization kills bacteria and in the process other nutrients are lost. However, the thinking is "For the Greater Good" and pasteurization does make the product safe for all and lets face it, you are eating gelato for fun, not for health benefits, although it is a lot healthier than ice cream.
