Thank you for visiting our Kickstarter page! We’re so excited to share our project with you and hope you will offer your support!
This October 11-12, 2013 NDT will premiere THREE new works at The Actors Fund Arts Center theatre in downtown Brooklyn, including the long awaited five-section work BODIES.
Throughout September, we will be HARD AT WORK in the studio choreographing, rehearsing, and getting together all the numerous production components including costumes, props, slide projections and promotional endeavors for this multi-media production. Your support will help us achieve it!
ABOUT THE WORK
What an exciting time! Our Fall season at the new Actors Fund Arts Center theatre in downtown Brooklyn taking place October 11-12 will include the creation, premiere and presentation of the following works:
BODIES – A full-length work three years in the making, NDT and commissioned guest artist Fayzah Fire will complete the final three sections of this five section work which explores the miraculous systems of the human body. Drawing from a diverse array of movement styles including ballet, street jazz and modern dance, plus vivid slide projections, BODIES is an enticing escapade into the highly synchronized dual hemispheres of the brain (Hemispheres), the rapid relays of the central nervous system (Nerve), the rhythmical beatings of the human heart (Heart), the pulsating flow of blood through the circulatory system (Pulse), and the myriad motions of our amazing muscles (Brawn). The first two sections, created in 2012 and winter 2013 respectively, have been called “compelling and courageous” by iDanz News and “intriguing” by Fit Engine, and were exceptionally well received during initial showings.
ZEPHYR – We will be putting the final touches on this two year whirlwind work-in-progress which depicts the ebb and flow of atmospheric wind streams and employs large pedestal fans and billowing fabric installations currently being created by Production Manager/Artist Jack Lynch of Dance Theatre of Harlem.
THREAD – This solo, meant as a showcase for the alluring artistry and daring diversity of company soloist Sarah Taylor, will layer dynamic, contemporary movements over a classical base of lines, extensions, and articulated footwork.
HEADS-OR-TAILS – This repertory favorite is where the Matrix meets James Bond. This frolicking duet blends elements of ballet, tango and Irish soft-shoe into a sharp, synchronization of movements fueled by a constant interchanging of the dancers creating a sleek, driving, yet playful piece.
WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP
It’s daunting the amount of work, effort, personnel and COST it takes to bring artistic ideas to life and share them with others! While we’ve already raised over $4,000 thanks to some wonderful corporate sponsors including New York Life, F Squared PT, Art for Life and Education, and Freed of London, we are still in need of your help to raise additional funds to cover costs such as:
• Studio and venue rental fees
• Artist compensation (they are so talented, committed and work soooo hard!)
• Production costs including costuming, fabric, drapings, and gels
• Marketing and promotion (postcard and poster printing)

Risks and challenges
From conception to realization, every artistic endeavor has its myriad of challenges. In dance it includes getting the ideas out of the mind and into dancers' bodies; finding space and working and creating in it, transforming and performing in it; enrolling one's passion for an idea onto others and, of course, funding it! This is all part of a normal ‘day at the office’ for a choreographer and dance company director such as myself. I do it because ideas inspire me, as well as the people I get to share them with in the most priceless ways. It imbibes a deeper connection with the world in which we live and our shared human experience. I hope you will support this project and help us bring this latest artistic endeavor to fruition.
