Starcade is the product of me wanting to put as much game as possible into as few components as I could. Inspired by my favorite arcade game: Galaga and the fun of FTL (Faster Than Light), I made Starcade to have big game experiences is a small package.
Each of the 3 game modes (Solo, Player Vs Player, and Co-op) were designed as separate games. It was very important to me Starcade was not a game that had one set of rules with 3 variants. I'm especially excited about having a Solo mode designed specifically for that game experience.
- 5 double-sided starship cards (standard 3.5"x2.5")
- 2 double-sided token sheets (26 tokens)
- 6 different color dice
My goal with Starcade is to get it out there one way or another. Because of this I found ways to source components domestically that allow for lower minimum quantities and keep the cost down to the same as a mass production run. Unfortunately, the component quality won't be as good as a mass production run and the tokens will be cards with cut lines unless we hit the $12,000 upgrade stretch goal.
My choice was to either make the minimum for the whole campaign $12,000 or do it this way. Since Starcade is a micro game I thought it would be a great opportunity to have a low goal amount since I have these two options for printing. I wanted to make sure these details are here on the campaign page so everyone can be in on the process!

A Game Mechanic of Note
Mainly in the Solo mode, players will use the sides of their Shield die for their defense value. Here's an image to show what I mean:
There is so much game in this little package. Using just this set there are 3 distinct modes to play:

"Very clever minimalism with all the different uses for dice. The quick games make it a filler for the solo gamer crowd." - Tim Fowers, Designer of Burgle Bros., Paperback, and Wok Star

With this campaign I'm offering Starcade at 33% off of the MSRP and with that there is not a lot of room for stretch goals. However, with more backers I'm able to put those funds right back into the game making it even better!
Note: the $12,000 Stretch Goal upgrades the components for the $5 and $10 pledge levels!
Shipping is included in the USA, which is approximately $3.00, and this amount will be credited to all backers world wide (at the $10 pledge level). Here is the shipping breakdown:
If you'd like to order extra copies of Starcade here is the breakdown of how much each extra copy will cost. Add up the correct amount to pledge and once the campaign is over you'll be asked what the extra funds are for in the survey (this only applies to the $10 pledge level for the full copy edition of Starcade).
Never Peak Games is me (Derak Morrell)... And constant help from friends, family, and collaborators. I've successfully Kickstarted, delivered, and distributed We Are Dead: Zombie Mall Massacre. Although my second game, Dead@17: the Battle for Darlington Hills was not successful it remains a passion project that I'm committed to bringing back once the overhaul is completed. One of my favorite parts of doing this is all the people I've gotten to meet. I also love showing and demoing the games at conventions and in stores.
Starcade came from wanting to create the most game with the smallest amount of components that I could. I couldn't be happier with where it's at or more excited to get it out to the backers.
Starcade got to this point with the help of some very talented people:

Risks and challenges
If successful, this will be my second Kickstarter to go into production. We Are Dead did deliver late due to the art not being fully finished when the Kickstarter launched. The art for Starcade is complete and there will be nothing to wait for to begin production.
In order to decrease the chances of things going wrong, I'm keeping the stretch goals streamlined and offering no add-ons (other than extra copies). There will always be potential problems in production time/quality and/or delays in shipping, but I've done my homework on sourcing the components for the game and how to deliver them.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
