The Final Four (days and artists)!
We are down to less than 4 days left in the campaign -- it all comes to a close this Friday! Thank you all SO MUCH for helping us get this far! But we're not done yet, we still have more amazing artists to spotlight, and there's still plenty of time to convince all of your friends and family to join the project with a pledge as well! As it stands, even with our goal (currently) met, we're still going to be going a bit out-of-pocket on this to fulfill all of the cool reward items, so the more we can bring in from the campaign, the more it helps us make the end-project that much better! So please -- keep spreading the good words!
Certainly, by no means, were these spotlights in any particular sorting order, but looking at these last four, it'd be easy to think we intentionally saved the best for last...
NATHAN FOX (guest)
Nathan Fox is a monster. His stuff is frighteningly awesome, the kind of fear you can't resist, its so good. He has worked commercially for over 15 years, originally focusing on editorial pieces for small rags like, oh, the The NYTimes, Entertainment Weekly, The Village Voice, Interview, Wired, Rolling Stone, etc. But after he discovered anime, Yoshitoshi's Yukiyo-e Prints, and comics, his fate was sealed.
He made his first notable splash with celebrated fill-in issues of Brian Wood's DMZ for Vertigo, followed by PIGEONS FROM HELL, written by Joe R. Lansdale for Dark Horse comics and DARK REIGN: ZODIAC with Joe Casey for Marvel.
This led to the co-creation of FLUORESCENT BLACK, a full-length graphic novel written by M.F. Wilson and published in three parts by Heavy Metal.
Firmly establishing his unique visual style in the field, he was tapped for various dark sci-fi projects, including BLEEDOUT, HAWKEN: GENESIS, and HAWKEN: MELEE, as well as re-occurring contributions to the crime noir jam-anthology series BLUE ESTATE.
He continued to raise the bar with books like HAUNT and CAPTAIN VICTORY, both again with writer Joe Casey, and covers for the series FBP from Vertigo.
He now teaches visual narrative at The School of Visual Arts in New York City, inspiring young artists to take a risk and follow what moves them.
BEN CALDWELL (guest)
Ben Caldwell is a cartoonist who has spent much of his career designing toys and characters for animation development and comic book illustration. He has worked for Toybiz on properties like Lord of the Rings, WWF, and Harry potter, but he is most well-known for his ACTION CARTOONING series of how-to books. He created the DARE DETECTIVES comic, which earned him a nomination for the Russ Manning Award in 2005 for Best New Talent, before going on to create the ALL-ACTION CLASSICS series of comic book adaptations of classic literature, including Bram Stoker's DRACULA, Homer's THE ODYSSEY, and THE WIZARD OF OZ.
He gained mainstream comic attention for his work with WONDER WOMAN for DC's WEDNESDAY COMICS, as well as frequent covers for JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED and NEW TEEN TITANS, and story art for various popular DC titles such as JUSTICE LEAGUE BEYOND. He has since worked with popular DC characters including Superboy, Harley Quinn, and co-developed the new series PREZ, with writer Mark Russell for DC.
All of this while chipping away at the next volume of DARE DETECTIVES, which (he promises me) will soon see the light of day. You must visit his blog and check out his crazy-good Daily Doodles. He's a machine.
BRENT MCKEE (guest)
Brent McKee is about to blow up. His work is amazing, and you're gonna see it more and more before you realize it. He has worked for various skateboard companies, licensed Nintendo products, and Marvel/Upperdeck to date. He has contributed pieces to books like SUPER-EGO and THE GLASS TARANTULA on Sequentialink.com.
This month alone, he's got three books hitting shelves: covers for Richard Matheson's THE SHRINKING MAN and DRONES, both from IDW, as well as BOWERY BOYS: OUR FATHERS from Dark Horse, collecting the webcomic into print.
You need to spend a spell perusing his Deviantart page. The guy has mad talent.
FEDERICO DALLOCCHIO (guest)
Federico Dallocchio is an Argentine artist whose body of work includes BATMAN and SUICIDE SQUAD (soon to be a major motion picture) for DC, and CAPTAIN AMERICA for Marvel. He also illustrated INSURGENT for DC, written by FJ Desanto.
But the bulk of his work, for some coincidental reason, has orbited a number of well-known video-games-to-comics adaptations, including STARCRAFT, MODERN WARFARE 2: GHOST, CALL OF DUTY, GEARS OF WAR, EVE ONLINE, and HAWKEN.
You cannot argue Fed's sharp eye and surgical detail. The guy is a total PRO.
