The Final Summons Anthology needs your help! The New England Speculative Writers aim to create an anthology filled with diverse tales of Fantasy & Science Fiction.
The Final Summons promotes New England authors, artists, and editors.
These fabulous fourteen authors have spun together a collection of carefully crafted words resulting in absolution. The contents include the summoning of demons, the unraveling of reality, sentient machines and cosmic courts. These tales reach across genres, including dark fantasy, action and adventure, time slip and noir detectives. Each story in this anthology answers a single question, "What is the final summons?"
In 2017 C.L. Alden and Jeremy Flagg started discussing the need for a regional organization that promoted networking exclusively for Science Fiction and Fantasy authors. They wanted the organization to help authors who were preparing or already published and ultimately push them toward success. This created the New England Speculative Writers. Our mission statement is simple, "Help speculative fiction authors successfully reach readers."
Since starting we have provided a website for authors to promote their work and provide advice for fledging authors ranging from how to find inspiration to how to navigate publishing as a female creator. We strive for inclusion and diversity amongst our writers and provide quarterly networking events to exchange best practices and emerging trends in the publishing world.
Nearly a year since our inception we boast over two hundred authors in our collective and a website receiving thousands of hits per month. In the future expect to host a writing conference for authors across the United States as well as an award ceremony for outstanding contributions in the area of Science Fiction and Fantasy.
"Think of the exposure you'll get," is a statement many indies hear during their writing careers. Unfortunately, in a rush of excitement to get published, authors submit their work without financial compensation. We want to make sure that our supply chain, rooted in New England, is compensated for their talents. Nobody should work for free. This means making sure authors, editors, and artists are paid. It is important to us that we provide financial compensation to all parties involved in this anthology.
Our hope is with the royalties from this anthology we can continue publishing local authors' works and provide semi-professional and professional level pay in the future.

Risks and challenges
The risk for this project is extremely low. The New England Speculative Writers has already grown with more than two hundred and fifty members. Our focus now is on paying authors for their works. If we find ourselves needing to reduce the costs, NESW co-founder Jeremy Flagg's background in layout design and cover design will allow him donate time to reduce artistic costs while his other half, C.L. Alden's background in English will allow her to edit the stories. However, the more funding we acquire, the more local talent we will be able to have involved in this project.
