Thank you to everyone who helped us to hit our $2,000 stretch goal. As a result, all +$10 will not receive one, but two stickers.
We are almost coming to an end of our Kickstarter drive. Interviews are being booked, music is being licensed and the drafts for the first five episodes have been written. All of the podcast equipment has been ordered and is en route. An amazing journey is about to begin.
Some updates on pledge rewards:
- For those who are getting the stickers, I am going to order those today and will have them shipped out as soon as possible. Hopefully by the start of May.
- I am still undecided on how to distribute the full-length interviews. In all likelihood, I will distribute them as a private Soundcloud file.
- For those who have sponsored an on-air thank you, you will have a commercial break dedicated to you
- Those who have episode themes, we will be in touch soon.
- Our wonderful Executive Producer is already helping us with production!
The timeline for the first episode release is still up in the air, though we are on track for our early June goal.
Again, from the bottom of my heart, thank you again.
In celebration of hitting our goal so quickly, we have already commissioned the cover art for the "Neolib Podcast". Remember: if we hit $2,000 we will give all > $10 a copy of our new cover art in sticker form. Thank you to everyone who has donated already! We can't wait to get started on producing an awesome podcast.
In just two hours, we have reached our goal. I am honestly blown away by the outpouring of support for this project. A special thanks to everyone who has contributed.
At this point, it is customary to do a stretch goal. So, if we hit $2,000, we will launch a podcast website. A one-stop shop for all things Neoliberal Podcast related. In addition, we will also produce and send to all $10+ donors an additional sticker, uniquely designed with Neoliberalism in mind.
The Neoliberal Podcast is the next project from the people who run the Neoliberal Twitter. It is going to be a podcast on a new way to think about the world. For far too long, we have looked at issues as two-sided and politically driven. But behind the scenes, there are wonderful policymakers, researchers, thinkers, and innovators making the world a better place. These are the people we want to feature on our podcast, a guest-driven show where we learn through the eyes of what they do. Together, we want to rise above petty politics and talk with these people about neoliberal policies that will make the world a better place. And while they might not explicitly call themselves neoliberals, they definitely express its ideals. Topics we hope to discuss with our guests include:
- Evidence-based policymaking
- Free trade and open borders
- Pragmatic deregulation
- Social liberal values
To just name a few.
Furthermore, we want to continue our primary goal of cleaning up the dirty connotation of "neoliberalism" and redefine it for the 21st century. Neoliberalism does not need to be synonymous with crony capitalism and inequality. Instead, we want to reaffirm the liberal institutions that have given us a century of unparalleled increases in freedom and prosperity. We want to oppose the populist Left and Right. We want to use free markets to continue the trend of poverty alleviation and decreasing inequality in the world. It is no coincidence that the rise of neoliberalism happened at the same time as these trends.
With our guests, we will explore these ideas through their research, writings, and ideas. We are so excited to have you, the listener, on this journey with us.
Ever since launching our Twitter we have been blown away by the outpouring of support for us. In just a short few months, we have seen a vibrant community of neoliberals, and even non-neoliberals, get together and start hashing out bright new ideas.
The podcast has been a long time coming. We have been toying with the idea for months, but wondering when the best time to pull the trigger would be. After the success of our Neoliberal Bracket, we realized for the first time that there was a cohesive community of Neoliberals who believed in its ideas and wanted to see it advanced.
Our goal is to raise $1,000. We have a short list of equipment and software we want to buy to make the best podcast possible. If we are going to do this, we are going to do it right.
So what are we doing with the money? Well, we are starting from the ground up. All the podcast equipment: microphones, recorders, software, licensing, etc. need to be purchased.
First off, all the Kickstarter money is going towards the fulfilling donor rewards and podcast production. Kickstarter/Stripe get a cut as well. With any money, we will be able to license better music, get better audio equipment and make an overall better podcast. Any extra money after that will be set aside to pay future expenses.
Once the Kickstarter ends, we will begin to buy the equipment and start doing interviews. We are going to shoot for a late May/early June launch date on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and another undetermined platform.
Thank you so much for visiting our Kickstarter page. We hope that you will support us and listen in.
Risks and challenges
• Podcasts are not easy to produce. It takes a lot of time commitment and there is a steep learning curve. This is my first time doing this!
• Podcasting is not my fulltime job, so I will have to balance it.
• The podcast will need to grow beyond the existing Twitter and Reddit fan bases.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
