====================================================
So Many Me is a 2D puzzle-platformer inspired by the greatest hits of the genre and developed by Extend Studio -- A.R.E.S. Extinction Agenda (Steam and XBLA), Jigsaw Mansion (iPad).
You play an unassuming green blob named Filo who has an incredible ability: to control his many, many clones -- called the “ME.” These clones possess all sorts of fun abilities that can be used to solve puzzles throughout the game. As you progress further through Filo’s adventure, you will find a variety of new types of clones. Understanding and harnessing their unique powers are key to your success.
Filo’s multiplicitous adventure takes him to a fantastical world, presented in a fun art style that combines adorable characters with the world’s mysterious atmosphere.
Our team has always loved puzzle games, and marrying them to platformers has always been a natural combination that’s given us such games as The Lost Vikings, Braid, and Portal. Our ultimate goal with So Many Me is to create a brand new and fun puzzle-platformer that takes what we love from the genre and wraps it around a fresh new mechanic that players haven’t seen before.
Because we love So Many Me, and we want to not only deliver the best possible gaming experience, but we want as many players as possible to be able to try it for themselves.
The game is now 80% complete for PC/Mac/Linux! We've spent the last two years building the game from the ground-up, and we couldn't be happier with how it looks -- but as game developers and enthusiasts alike both know, that last 20% is always the hardest part!
With Kickstarter and your own feedback, however, the possibilities for that last 20% are near-endless. With your support, we have a chance to not only finish the game, but to make the entire game better. We’re not just talking about polishing bugs -- we’re talking about adding new material, new gameplay, and even brand new mechanics to the game!
In addition to that, a successful Kickstarter campaign means we can achieve our dream of releasing So Many Me on as many different platforms as possible, including Playstation 4, Playstation Vita, and the Wii U (complete with unique Wii U GamePad functionality).
No matter what happens, we at Extend plan to build and release the best possible game with all the resources available to us.
So Many Me presents a fun new gameplay mechanic that grows across the adventure as you explore the world and solve progressively intricate puzzles.
The ME
You start with a single character, Filo. As he travels through each level, he will discover more ‘ME’. The ME are creatures that look exactly like Filo, replicated by an unknown ancient power. All of them, including Filo, will follow each other’s move and repeat each other’s action.
Filo and the ME move in sequence. You will take control of whoever is at the front of the group and the rest will follow one by one.
Transform and Recall
Your first ability in the game allows you to create platforms anywhere you want at the expense of a ME. Every ME can Transform themselves into a stone block, letting the rest of the group latch onto it and get up to higher areas that would normally be unreachable.
Once you've transformed a ME, you can use the Recall ability to reverse the transformation and return the ME back to the group. You can Transform and Recall multiple ME at once, gaining access to higher and higher areas as you progress through the game.
And More Powers!
Aside from Transform and Recall, you will discover new transformation abilities as you progress through each chapter. Learning the master these forms and use them in sequence is key to solving the game’s many puzzles.
For example, these red flowers dot the landscape and can shoot out deadly poisonous spores that can prevent you from using ME abilities. The only way you’re getting past them is to distract them with your Luna form, using the moonlight to change the direction of the spores and move safely past!
Join The Ride!
Filo and his army of ME aren't the only things you’ll be able to use to complete your quest -- there are TONS of interactive objects you’ll run into in So Many Me. Some are obstacles that need to be bypassed, while others are keys that help you solve puzzles. One of the devices we’re introducing through this Kickstarter is the Gene Splicer, capable of creating massive and powerful creatures that Filo can ride.
That’s right! RIDES! Each rideable creature has its unique abilities, but are limited in mobility thanks to the bigger size. Use rideable creatures to solve special puzzles and to smash through pesky obstacles on your way to the goal!
Earn Your Rewards!
In addition to completing So Many Me’s Story Mode, each level also contains three secret items for you completionist-types out there! Some of these are easy to find, others are well-hidden, but all of them require you to solve a puzzle before you can collect them! Find an Ark Seed to increase the number of ME you have! Find an Artifact to gain a unique new skill! Find a Costume and customize the appearance of your ME!
Speaking of costumes, there are also all sorts of them just waiting to be found! Each individual ME you find can be customized with outfits, and you can earn special outfits depending on your pledge tier!
Giant Boss Monsters!
Filo’s adventures take you all across a sprawling fantasy world, and you’ll end up facing more than just tricky puzzles and pitfalls during your quest! Case in point: While exploring a deep cave system in the first chapter, you soon come face-to-face with a massive plant-monster with a particularly strong desire to devour all intruders that venture into its lair!
This is just one of our boss levels that lie at the end of every chapter in So Many ME. Right now, the game is planned to have five chapters -- but depending on how much support we get during this Kickstarter, that number can go up!
The story takes place on the lush fragment world of Xio, one of many smaller pieces of a larger world that have broken off into orbit.
Our Art Director has worked very hard to create a visual feel for the world of Xio and So Many Me that is as unique as possible, pulling inspiration more from his own childhood adventures than any game or film. The result is a warm and inviting palette, a cozy atmosphere, and a sense of fun and mystery that harkens back to our formative years, when the world was still big and ripe for exploration.
This approach to the game world has also helped drive the design of the game and feeds directly into the allure of puzzle-platformers: to explore a fun new world, discover new and exciting things in it, and then to understand how all the pieces all fit together.
The storyline is divided into five chapters, each taking place in its own distinctive environment. Whether it’s a mysterious forest on a sunny afternoon, or a midnight trek through an old abandoned mine, each chapter has been built from the ground up to look and feel different, complete with its own fun musical accompaniment and special puzzle mechanics.
Our good friends at HyperDuck Soundworks are working with us once again, providing the beautiful sound design and amazing soundtrack for So Many Me! These crazy ducks are responsible for the soundscapes of some of this generations hottest games, from Dust: An Elysian Tail to Mojang's Scrolls.
Believe it or not, we've actually been working with them since 2008 on the sound design for So Many Me. If you’re a fan of the Ducks, let it be known you're going to hear a totally new sound from them that will blow you away. The lovingly crafted soundtrack will have you hopping and bopping in your chair, but don't take our word for it! Check out the previews for yourself!
These are old mixes but they will be mixed again and re inserted in the final version of the game! Take these are rough drafts for now though, and enjoy!
We are a close-knit team of designers, programmers, artists and business folks. We may come from different backgrounds and all across the world, but we share the same heart when it comes to producing great games. Our Asia team is responsible for designing the characters, iterating on the gameplay mechanics and piecing the game together, while the US team gathers and organizes community feedback, brainstorms new ideas, and manages studio PR.
Extend studio (x10) was founded in 2008 and immediately began development on our first self-funded title, A.R.E.S. Extinction Agenda. Thanks to everyone’s support, the game was released on PC in 2011 and was a marked success for x10. It didn't take long before we were tossing around ideas for a brand new project, and soon it became official: So Many Me would be our next adventure!
A 2.5D hardcore action-packed side-scrolling platformer, in the traditions of retro classics, A.R.E.S. Extinction Agenda released on Steam and Desura in 2011
The recently released XBLA title is the definitive, extended version of A.R.E.S. Extinction Agenda! New features include new playable characters, new missions, new equipment, and new high-resolution textures and cutscenes!
The award-winning classic board game for your iPad. Solve unique puzzles and create original designs in beautiful high definition with multiple jigsaw cutting techniques like Trick Edge, Spiral, and Rose cuts.
Join Filo and his many ME on PC, Mac, Linux and Wii U!
The Chrono Castle is one of the most mysterious places in all of Xio! Navigate your way through 30 brand new levels packed with strange and exotic items you won’t find anywhere else!
Some gamers simply prefer to play their platformers on consoles, and we don’t want to leave them out! Help us reach this stretch goal and we’ll unleash Filo and his ME into your living room PS4 (and wherever else you bring your PS Vita)
Customize your own ME costumes and share them via the in-game marketplace!
With this bonus chapter, you’ll be able to prove yourself as the Master of ME in the game’s most dangerous puzzles ever! Impossible Island unlocks when you reach the final chapter of the game.
Everybody loves secrets, right? If we hit this stretch goal, we’ll add all sorts of fun new hidden passages throughout the game world, adding tricky new puzzles to solve, new areas to explore, and new rewards to find as you travel across the world of Xio.
Show the whole world your incredible ME skills! Competitive Mode adds time trial gameplay to some of the most difficult levels in the game. Beat them and show off your scores on the online leaderboard system.
Want endless replay? We do! If we hit this goal, we’ll release an easy-to-use level editor that lets you create your own game levels, design your own puzzles, and share them through the in-game marketplace!
Wow, these two are big! If we hit these lofty goals, we will enhance the game with .................. that surely surprise YOU, Filo and his many ME!
Risks and challenges
Making a great game is hard!
In order to make So Many Me the best game we can, we have been doing many development iterations. Each development loop consists of designing, coding, visualizing and playtesting. The good thing is we are a small team of close friends so we are quite agile and can quickly implement any changes. The less-good thing is we have a pretty tight budget at the moment, so we don’t have many resources to hasten or streamline this process. However, thanks to our past experience developing and releasing games, we’re confident that our process will yield the best possible game no matter what stretch goals we may hit. This Kickstarter represents the final development loops for So Many Me, and we’d like you all to be a part of them!
Marketing a great game is even harder!
Obviously, spending over two years developing a game is hard work. All sorts of problems can arise during the development process, but one of the biggest doesn’t make itself obvious until the game is nearly complete: marketing. Ideally, marketing is something you’ve been building up to over the course of development -- something you start at the same moment you start working on your game. We’ve been working to build a small but passionate community of fans over the course of SMM’s development, and we want to grow it even further to help get the word out -- both to help make this Kickstarter a success, but also to make sure we’re staying in constant contact with our fans and players.
We’ll do our best to get the word out, but we’re also counting on fans and supporters to spread the word. That’s really all there is to it! Pledge, Share, Like, Tweet, Post and tell your friends about us! We at Extend Studio, Filo, and all his ME have faith in you :)
