Light Fairytale is a turn-based Japanese-style RPG set in a dying underground world ruled by a fierce empire. Inspired by classics such as Final Fantasy 7 and Breath of Fire 5.
The first episode is coming in 2017 on PC and Consoles. In English and Japanese.
The goal of this project is to bring back the immersion and emotion of 90's JRPGs, but with modern graphics and gameplay systems.
I think the reason why most recent games in the genre have failed to impress is their overly complicated stories and the realistic direction they are taking. This does not leave much to the imagination and just doesn't feel like the naive drama stories we used to love.
Most game-systems in those games are also too complex and require lots of time and dedication to start to be fun. I personally believe in quick and easy to understand, but hard to master gameplay mechanics.
This is exactly what I'm trying to achieve with Light Fairytale: A light yet touching story, with a simple but addictive gameplay!
The game starts with the main character Haru dreaming of vast green plains and a clear blue sky. A scenery he is not supposed to have ever seen, as the world he lives in is deep underground.
After confronting the soldiers who rule this dark society, he will embark on a great adventure discovering the mysteries of the world.
Teaming with many allies, including a mysterious, silver haired girl that is key to his quest.
The game features fast, turn-based battles that occur directly on the field.
Light Fairytale will span over multiple episodes. A long journey awaits!
A bit lazy, very naive, but have a good heart that can move people.
Short and cute, yet very reliable in battle. Fond of technology, a bit too much, maybe.
The characters are represented as cute chibi 3D models in-game, but they're shown as realistic Anime-style illustrations during the dialogues and animated 2D cutscenes.

The first episode is planned for July 2017 on PS4, Xbox One and Steam (Windows, Mac and Linux).

The elementals are human-like life forms who appeared long time ago in the most extreme places of the world. You'll have the ability to summon them in battle, but first, you'll need to defeat them!

Risks and challenges
The beginning of the game is already playable (try the free demo!). The challenge will be to improve on it by implementing all the missing features, then adding many more locations and events in a similar quality and complete the first episode. This will only be possible by working full-time on the project, with enough funds to cover my personal costs, purchase assets, licenses and work with paid freelancers.
Light Fairytale is an ambitious project for a one man team. This is why I've chosen the episodic format: It will allow to divide both the amount of work and budget / time needed for the first release.
I'm currently a registered developer on the Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo platforms. The funds will allow me to purchase the dev-kits I'm currently missing.
The Steam version will be possible if the game is greenlit. The Greenlight campaign will be launched during this KickStarter. I already have an experience with this process as I have one game available on Steam.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
