Sedis is a set of tiles with a systematic configuration of pips and blanks along the outer edges of each of its 60 wooden tiles. As with dominoes or playing cards, you can play a huge number of games using the large variety of game mechanics available with Sedis.
With Sedis, you and your friends can create your own games, or just play the games created by us and others in our developing community of players! Our website contains both rules for starting games as well as a growing collection of how-to-play videos and a downloadable print-and-play version of the tiles.

We've developed around a dozen fun games to get you started with Sedis! An instruction booklet containing an introduction to Sedis, game mechanics discovered thus far, guidance for creating new games, and rules for three basic games are included with each Sedis set.
Rules for additional games can be found on our website (online and in PDF form), along with a growing collection of how-to-play videos. As the Sedis community grows, more games will be added by us and others.

- Currently, we have EU-friendly shipping available outside the US. As the campaign progresses, we'll update with more info if we're able to achieve customs-friendly shipping elsewhere.
- We will begin manufacturing backers' units immediately after the end of the successful Kickstarter campaign (June 2017). We expect units to be shipped in monthly batches with all units expected to ship by October 2017.
While Sedis may look like six-sided dominoes, it's not! Its unique configuration of pips and blanks is based on a combinatorial system which uses the pips as placeholders, not simply as counters like dice, dominoes and playing cards.
Sedis consists of 60 tiles across 10 families, each family consisting of tiles which share the same "primary side" (the one with three pips). All other sides on a tile are derived from this primary side, allowing for a rich, systematic configuration of pips and blanks.
The unique design of Sedis allows for a large number of physical game mechanics, such as stacking and rotation of tiles and various interpretations of the pips and blanks. However, it's important to note that players of Sedis games do not need to know how Sedis is designed or the details of all of these game mechanics to have fun - and even create games - with the set!
My name is Neal Murthy. Around 30 years ago, I lost my grandfather and through his bequest, gained an old Pachisi set which had been passed down through generations in my family. This Pachisi set, along with being surrounded by family and friends who loved games, spurred a passion for hobbyist game design, even leading me to do my university studies in game theory (applied math and economics). Over the past 30 years, I have conceived hundreds of games and fully developed around twenty.
One of these games is Sedis, which actually came to me in a dream. The name "Sedis" is an Akkadian word for the number 6, for the six-sided tiles. We chose Akkadian because it's the base language of the ancient Babylonians, who used a base-60 numbering system (most cultures today use a decimal - base-10 - numbering system) and Sedis has 60 tiles.
All of this is being done through our company, Nefer Games. Through this company, we're seeking to change how we view play as a species. Play is vital to our culture, our humanity and our happiness. We have a broad mission to create tools and environments of play which are beautiful and wonderful. We hope Sedis will be the first of many products created by Nefer Games which help us to fulfill this mission.
My thanks in advance to all of you in the Kickstarter community for supporting my dream to bring Sedis and other games to the world. I look forward to receiving your feedback and your backing, and in turn, to sending you one or more of the world's first Sedis sets.
Risks and challenges
There is little risk in design or development. We have produced multiple prototypes of each type of set and are working with a well-established manufacturing partner with a stable history. We have fronted the money for functional prototyping and initial patent filings and tested multiple sizes and material variants of the product, so the funding generated by this project will be used to fulfill rewards, develop our online tools and begin to develop a worldwide Sedis community.
The primary challenge we face is on-time fulfillment of orders in case backing far exceeds expectations, partly due to the fact that our current manufacturing partner has a small-scale capacity. We do have a few contingency plans in place, including having our partner expand its operations, partnering with additional manufacturers (some of which we’ve identified), and even bringing manufacturing in-house. We’ll make final decisions on which contingency plans to put in place as the campaign progresses, keeping our backers informed.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
