The Blinkenbike is a customisable balance bike for kids. They start out with a basic bike, and with the use of included tools and knobs from an integrated tool compartment, they can build themself a huge variety of bikes in different designs based on just one basic bike.

Blinkenbike - More than just a balance bike
The Blinkenbike isn’t just a balance bike, it is also a toy designed to aspire kids' curiosity integrating playing and learning. With the Blinkenbike all the fun begins with the integrated tool compartment, that kids instantly recognise because of the shape as the well known “Shape-Sorter-Toy”. In the Blinkenbike the shaped bricks aren’t just bricks, they are small functional knobs that can be use to mount and assemble a variety of different accessories on their Blinkenbike making different designs.
The Blinkenbike Concept
You start out with the high quality basic balance bike and can build on by purchasing, a kit or some of the accessories piece by piece, making the Blinkenbike a perfect gift where everybody can contribute - the accessories can be attached in many different places and combinations.
As a grown up, you can also be a part of the fun making cardboard accessories. The Blinkenbike will be delivered in a cardboard box with printed motorlayouts ready for cut-out and attach on the bike - creativity is the only limitation...

The accessories makes it possible to assemble many combinations. The basic bike is carefully designed to make it visually secondary to the accessories. With the accessories attached, the bike gets its own unique expression depending on which accessories you attach on it.

Recommendations and Technical Specifications
The Blinkenbike is developed based on a lot of research, guidelines, recommendations and specifications for approval. Denmark is a bicycle country, where there is a lot of focus on security and comfort. When designing the Blinkenbike, we consulted The Danish Consumer Council “Tænk” (Think) among others. Tænk is an independent membership organization working for a market where all consumers can make a safe choice. “Tænk” has pointed out 13 guidelines for balance bikes. The Blinkenbike meets 11 of the 13 guidelines, and deviations are deliberate decisions – see below
The Guidelines
- The Handle bar should not be too wide – for easy manoeuvring √
- The steering angle should be limited – for a stable ride √
- The Handle Bar should not be too close to the saddle – to avoid stomach injury √
- The Steering should – however – not be limited to less than 45° – so the child isn’t forced to lift the bike at narrow turns √
- The saddle height should be adjustable – for long-term use √
- Adjustable Handle Bar hight – to corespond to sitting position √
- Padded saddle – to minimize pressure on the kid’s spine √
- Low entry – for easy boarding ÷
- Large wheels – for more stable ride and minimize risk of falling while cutting curbs √
- Soft (pneumatic) tires – to minimise pressure on the kid’s spine and stable ride √
- No handbrake – distracts the child √
- No fixed handles – forcing the child to keep hands at a certain place √
- Handle for carrying the bicycle ÷
The deliberate deviations
- On the Blinkenbike we deviated from the low entry in order to get at stiffer frame and a more classic look.
- The Blinkenbike can be ordered with maintenance free foam tires – foam tires are not as soft as pneumatic tires, but the best for maintenance free use in kindergardens e.g. - It is your choice!
- There isn’t a handle for carrying. The Blinkenbike is by the way very light weight, and we believe that adults should protect their back too. Instead we are developing a carry harness and a push handle to assist the child during training, and for adults to push the child when he or she is tired
Made with kids for kids
We believe in the idea, and are constantly developing new designs at Blinkenbike because we simply love creativity. All our designs are carefully developed based on rules, regulations, guidelines and recommendations from leading organisations in Denmark and the rest of the world, but to be honest, we actually get the best and most creative inputs from children. Children see details differently from adults, and their unspoiled minds often come up with new ideas that we had never given a thought.
Why Kickstarter?
We are a small, independent newly established business and team, focused on creating the ultimate sustainable balance bike for kids. We have been pouring a lot of time, effort, and resources into designing the concept and finding production facilities to get the Blinkenbike into production.
We now need to raise funds for the expensive molds and tooling for the all essential knobs, and to get quantity on the production in order to deliver at a fair price.
We have spent endless hours perfecting the design and engineering of the basic bike and the accessories, and we are extremely happy with the result, and truly feel the Blinkenbike is bringing the balance bike to a higher level.
Timeline
We have spent months in developing our prototypes and testing with young riders and parents, as well as securing all the necessary partners. We are in the process of getting the final approvals and certifications, and our manufacturing relationship is in place, ready to start production once we have the funding to move forward.
All we need is your help to bring it to life.
Throughout the process we will provide timely and clear updates and will be available to answer any of your questions directly.
Risiken und Herausforderungen
We have been testing, following all possible guidelines and recommendations, and gone through all available material related to rules and regulations. The 0-series will go through the final stress-test to ensure the the highest quality tested. But of course we will not send any products to the market without the proper certifications. The greatest risk of delay is in other words related to your kids safety, and can of course never be compromised.
Naturally, we will inform our backers should we - contrary to our expectations - run into delays
