Hi, my name is Hunter Lovins.
I work with companies, communities and countries on how to implement more regenerative practices profitably.
Today I am asking for your help on my most ambitious project yet.
We’re in trouble. The world faces soaring inequality, the loss of biodiversity, a climate crisis and more. Yet we have all of the technologies we need to solve all of these threats, and to craft a world that works for all.
A team of business leaders, scholars, activists and entrepreneurs has worked with me for the past two years to tell a new story of an economy in service to life. We’ve collected the best work being done to transform finance, energy, agriculture and to reinvent governance.
We need your help to get this content to the millions of people who want to drive change in their communities and companies.
A Finer Future will be a 7-chapter, 300-page, print and digital manuscript. With your help here on Kickstarter we will bring it to life.
A Finer Future is aimed at business leaders, entrepreneurs, activists, and anyone who cares about the future of our planet. Rich with stories of communities implementing solutions, it describes the exciting news in the work to transform finance, business, energy agriculture and many other areas of our society to create an economy that works for every one of us.
A Finer Future for those who are asking:
- What does our future look like?
- Is our future one of climate chaos from global warming?
- Is our economy working against our efforts?
- What needs to be done for humanity to avoid total systems collapse?
- What technologies exist today to solve the biggest energy crisis ever?
A Finer Future is a master class in building the world we want.
If you’ve just discovered our work at Natural Capitalism, if you’re an activist who wants to dive deeper, or if you’re part of a community trying to take regenerative principles to scale, this is your next step.
A Finer Future in both its hardcover and digital formats will ship to backers in early 2018.
A Finer Future will give you the tools you need to execute Natural Capitalism principles in a wide range of environments—but we have another goal in sharing it with you.
This campaign is also an experiment designed to see how we can promote the Finer Future tools and accelerate the implementation of a new economy. The Finer Future platform will be an online tool for sharing best practices, important news stories and most compelling tech developments to support a global network of activism. This evolving online publication will be dedicated to the successful implementation of a new regenerative economy.
This new book will be researched, written and published consistent with the methodology we believe in.
For someone who loves the experimentation process as much as I do, this is a thrilling proposition. For those of you share my devotion to Natural Capitalism, who believe deeply in its potential to create more aware communities of people who know that their work has value and their time is not being wasted, it's my hope (and my hypothesis) that you'll want to come along for the ride.
I think of A Finer Future as a kind of roadmap—but maps can only take us so far.
Kickstarter is an ideal platform for continual learning–an idea at the heart of the Finer Future principles.
If we reach our stretch goal of $100K, we will develop a backer-only community where you can share your experiences, meet and learn from other backers, and interact with our entire team.
This online discussion community will be 100% private to backers of the campaign. Our team will share exclusive notes, participate in discussions, and ask for advice about which tools and material have been useful and which haven't. We'll ask you about your own stories and experiences, and how they align and diverge from those in The Finer Future.
This will ensure that learning continues after the campaign ends.
For The Finer Future campaign we are kicking in some incredible rewards.
Those of you who have followed me for a while know that when I launch something, I love to go big in offering extras to the early adopters who support my work. Beyond making the Finer Future platform available exclusively as part of this campaign, we are launching what we think you’ll agree are spectacular rewards, once-in-a-lifetime experiences, and invaluable mentorship opportunities.
We’ve created several different backer reward levels.
At the first level are a number of packages aimed at individuals who are new to the Finer Future or want a deeper dive; these packages include books, videos, tools for developing your vision, and more.
At the second level are rewards aimed at leaders and their teams; here, you’ll find some cool consulting opportunities and more.
At the third level are experiential rewards—opportunities to meet with Hunter Lovins and experience sustainability in action in the beautiful setting of Colorado.
We’ve also included some high-level consulting and workshop opportunities aimed at leaders who are ready to start implementing Finer Future throughout their organizations and communities.
100% of the money we receive will go to the research, writing and production of A Finer Future: the book and the platform. It will cover the campaign itself (including the new private online community just for backers).
We have assembled an all-star team to help me with the huge undertaking of producing and self-publishing a book based on five years of material with a very tight editorial deadline.
Once we meet our funding goal of $30,000, consider the book published! This is the minimum amount we need to make Finer Future a reality.
If we raise $100,000, we will publish the book and create a multimedia platform. This is how Finer Future will truly make a difference and affect change.
If we raise $200,000 or more, we’ll unlock additional benefits and add cool bonus rewards for all backers at different funding levels to help share the campaign wider. The more people we can get to back the campaign, the more valuable the experiment becomes to everyone who backs it.
A project like this is a massive undertaking. To make it happen, we have enlisted a world-class team to help make it a reality on an aggressive schedule.
Finer Future is close to being completed, but we still have a lot of work ahead. We have material that needs to be organized and edited.
We want to deliver a book to you that’s comprehensive, user-friendly, and beautifully designed.
I cannot wait to share this material. I'm consistently moved and humbled by the hard work and dedication of the Finer Future community.
I hope you share my excitement about this experiment. I look forward to hearing about your experiences and sharing the stories and tools that are helping others work in this new way.
Risks and challenges
We've mapped out our editorial timelines to ensure that we will deliver rewards to you on time.
My team and I have decades of book publishing between us. We are comfortable working with each other and with demanding editorial deadlines. However, there can always be delays during an editorial and printing process that could result in pushing back a ship date.
Since the nature of this project is collaborative, we will keep you informed throughout the editorial process of our progress and major milestones, as well as any delays.
Much of the preliminary research of The Finer Future has been completed, and an early manuscript is already going out for peer-review. I will plan to spend 3-4 months writing and researching the remainder of the book to have a final manuscript ready for design and copy-editing this fall.
The copy-editing and design process will begin soon and end in the beginning by December. As soon as there is a designed final file, it will ship it to you as an eBook immediately—likely sometime in early-spring. The printing and shipping process will take another 1-2 months, approximately, and that final hardcover book will ship to you no later than May 2018.
We plan on working closely with the design team and printer to ensure the smoothest production possible and, if funded, will update backers regularly on each step of the process.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
