JUMP - The Smartphone Charger That Charges Itself
We’ve all faced the frustrating issue of our smartphone running out of power, just when you want to make that call, send a message, or find where you are on a map.
From studying the market, we discovered key user needs that were not being satisfied. JUMP creates a new category of product – one that fulfills these previously ignored aspects of the user experience.
We have therefore developed a new solution: something that is thoughtful, intelligent and efficient by design.
JUMP is not just a charging cable; it also provides your smartphone with a substantial power boost wherever you are, without ever having to remember to charge it. Perfect for work, play, and travel.
We managed to pack 800mAh into this compact form factor that weighs less than two AA batteries. This provides over 3 hours additional talk-time: more than enough time to get you out of (or into) trouble.
JUMP charges itself every time you charge your smartphone
Unlike power banks, JUMP charges automatically every time you charge your phone, giving you complete reassurance that whatever situation you are in, there’s always power in your pocket.
We developed intelligent technology called AutoCharge™
AutoCharge™ is an efficient circuit prioritization system that detects when the battery inside your smartphone is full, and automatically redirects the power to charge the batteries inside JUMP.
It's always ready and charged
Jump provides a significant power boost to your smartphone when you need it most.
It's compact and lightweight
JUMP is case-friendly
We designed JUMP to be your everyday charging solution. One of the priorities was to ensure it is small and compact, no bigger than your average rolled up cable, allowing you to take it with you wherever you go.
The cable management system enables you to carry JUMP easily and neatly; no more messy cables thrown into your pocket or bag.
Precision-engineered channels securely hold the cable, allowing you to pull out the desired length during charging, as well as fastening whilst on the go.
Intelligent design that is robust, compact and portable
Quality of the components are extremely important to us – we wanted to create a device that cannot only withstand the stresses of everyday use, but is also something that looks and feels really good.
We custom made cables from a hard-wearing resistant nylon, resulting in cables that are durable and long lasting. We wanted to use materials for the casing that would ensure strength and longevity; therefore, we selected a thermoplastic blend of PC and ABS.
This is what we have been waiting for.
The Design Story
Today's Working Prototype
Electrical evaluation of the first working prototypes have proven AutoCharge™ and we are confident that JUMP will provide substantial additional charge to an iPhone 5s as we move forward towards production.
We wanted to share JUMP, our latest product, through Kickstarter first. We recognize that Kickstarter hosts an important community: artists, innovators, and the intellectually curious. We wanted to share the background and development of JUMP with you because we value your opinions and support. We believe we have started a new product category within the portable charging market; one that we hope you would like to follow the progress of. Your support means everything to us, and all of the funding will go towards vitally important aspects of making this product a reality.

Risks and challenges
It has taken nearly a year to be where we are today, and it has been incredibly challenging from a design and development perspective to achieve such great battery performance in a compact sleek design.
This upfront R&D has inherently reduced the amount of risks still involved in the project and we now face the final major task of bringing all the elements together, through; tooling, testing, compliance and production.
Of course by developing and manufacturing a product with new technology, there are still risks involved. At this stage we foresee the largest of these hurdles, aside from the normal challenges involved in any development, is Made for iPhone (MFi) compliance testing and shipment of individual products around the world.
JUMP is the first MFI accessory that combines a battery and sync product and is classed as a charging cable; this puts us in new territory within the MFI certification process.
To reduce risk and challenges, we have partnered with a world-leading manufacturer of MFI products; this provides us added insurance and confidence to pass the Made for iPhone (MFI) certification.
De-bugging the software involved in AutoCharge™ and within compliance of MFI will take further fine tuning and testing as we want the most efficient device for power vs size on the market today.
The last challenge is getting the individual product to each of our kickstarter backers – with tighter restrictions on the shipping of singular products that contain batteries around the world today. Our in-house logistics team has spent a considerable amount of time searching to find a logistics partner that has a proven track record of dealing with this issue and we believe we have greatly reduced the challenges involved.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Once the Kickstarter project period ends, all of our backers will receive a survey asking them to select which version of JUMP they would like to receive. If you have pledged for multiple units, you will be able to select how much of each version you want.
Please check Update #2 for details
Regardless of which pledge level you got your first unit for, each additional JUMP costs $35. To pledge for multiple units, just select “Manage My Pledge” on our project page, and add $35 for each additional unit you would like to receive.
You can add up to 9 additional JUMPs. We are limited to 10 units per backer due to Kickstarter regulations.
Please check Update #2 for details
Please make sure you add $10 to your pledge if you are shipping your order outside of the United States (this is done through “Manage My Pledge” on our project page).
You only need to pay this $10 shipping once; regardless of how many units you pledge for (max 10 units due to Kickstarter regulations).

We will only produce this product once MFi certification has been granted. The MFi certification is a lengthy, multi-step process. We have entered into contract with a manufacturer certified to produce MFi Lightning connectors and battery products to ensure the highest quality and compliance.
Both the Micro-USB and Lightning versions of JUMP will be manufactured in the same MFi facility, using consistent quality control.
Yes! JUMP is a new and improved version of the traditional charging/sync cable, with a neat cable storage system and an extra kick of power in your pocket.
This depends on the case you are using. Both JUMP’s Lightning and Micro-USB version connectors are (very) slightly larger than the traditional power cables provided to you with your phone.
If the cable you are using now fits into your phone with a tight fit, you may need to remove your phone case to use JUMP.
Compared to the traditional Lightning cable included with an iPhone5, JUMP’s connector is: 0.4mm larger on each side for height, and 1.35mm larger on each side for width.
JUMP's Micro-USB Connector is the same size as on traditional Micro-USB cables.
Both the Lightning and Micro-USB versions will have the same size connector.
We have tested the Lightning version of JUMP with Apple 5, 5s, and 5c official cases.
JUMP works will all of these!
The industry average when it comes to charge cycles is 500 cycles. We've used the highest quality custom-made batteries for JUMP, and are confident that they will out-perform this average of 500 cycles. That being said, since we are using custom batteries, we will not know the exact performance until we have gone through the testing phase. All data presented is based upon our best estimations.
As the charge cycle is a full de-charge and re-charge, using JUMP 3-4 times as a power-up every week would mean that it would last close to 3 years before any efficiency loss.
To ensure compliance with safety and quality regulations around the world, the casing of the JUMP will be sealed. You will not be able to replace the batteries, but our custom-made batteries are the most efficient use of space to ensure the small design form-factor we worked so hard to achieve.
I think when you get JUMP in your hands for the first time, you will be blown away with what we've managed to achieve here :)
JUMP is much different than the traditional power-bank. It's more of a replacement for your charging cable than a replacement for power-banks.
External batteries require you to charge them as an extra device, and also require an extra charging cable for the battery itself. It becomes a burden to use because you must remember to charge it, and must lug two tangled cables around (one for your device, one for your power bank). JUMP looks to simplify this problem in the most subtle way, one that fits your lifestyle rather than goes against it.
JUMP does all of the charging for you, and gives you the most efficient boost it can in its small form-factor. Most importantly, it gives you ease of mind knowing there's always power in your pocket.
We have definitely looked into adding more power into JUMP, but unfortunately, doing so would delay the estimated delivery date quite a bit due to bringing design and development back to square one. We want to ensure we take our estimated May delivery date seriously, and are going to deliver the JUMP that thousands of backers love already as soon as we can.
Definitely! You can use it just like any other charge/sync cable, except JUMP has a nice cable management system, and will save some power left over for when you need it most.
Yes! JUMP’s AutoChargeTM technology detects when there is no smartphone connected, and will direct power to JUMP’s internal batteries instead.
JUMP will sell at a price of $50 once it becomes a retail product in the future. The percentage discounts we have highlighted are simply the amount of money you’re saving from JUMP’s future retail price. There is no coupon for future purchases.
We have agreed to pay all import duty involved in getting JUMP into your hands.
