Native Magazine is a celebration of independent culture designed to inspire the creators of tomorrow.
We focus on emerging talent in sectors including music, fashion and design. By collaborating with a range of extremely talented photographers, film-makers and journalists, we are able to build bespoke content for our culturally rich community.
At the heart of what we do is a core team of people who are passionate about developing a platform that champions the work of those that lie under the radar of mainstream media. Our long-term aim is to provide somewhere for new talent to be seen, a space that allows voices to be heard and an environment that nurtures opportunities based solely on talent and not status.
We truly believe that Native Magazine can become globally recognised as an inspiring and informative voice for young, like-minded people.
Our first edition is loaded with truly inspiring work and incredibly ambitious people. We have collaborated with creatives from across the world to produce a magazine that we are extremely proud of.
Designed to provide a visual voice for emerging talent, we have spent three years defining who we are and what we do. This process has given us the confidence to create a printed magazine that will raise awareness of independent culture across industries including music, design, retail, events and more.
To compliment the quality of what's featured within edition one, our creative studio, Native Media, have developed an identity that works in harmony with the content. We have also worked with Park Communications (London) to deliver a printed products that fits us, our readers and our dream of keeping everything we do free, for everyone, forever.
To generate maximum awareness we plan to launch each edition at a significant, industry event. We have agreed the destination for our first publication – The Birmingham Design Festival, read more below.
The Birmingham Design Festival
In 2018 the first Birmingham Design Festival (BDF) was launched. Held over three days across the city and attracting over 8,000 international guests, it saw industry icons such as Aaron Draplin and Anthony Burrill hold inspiring talks and workshops whilst well respected brands such as GF Smith, Bloc Hotels and Awesome Merchandise sponsored proceedings.
The 2019 festival will begin on 6th July and we have decided to launch the first edition of our magazine at BDF. With over 12,000 guests expected we believe that this is the perfect opportunity to maximise awareness of our publication. Not only will we be able to place our magazine in front of like-minded people but connect those featured inside with industry leaders, influencers and buyers.
The Creators of Tomorrow
To date, we have featured, interviewed and celebrated thousands of inspiring people. During this time it's been immensely rewarding to discover the motivation of those we've worked with and how their work will shape their future.
Throughout this period it became evident that those we were championing had the potential to change creativity forever.
In 2018 we coined the phrase, The Creators of Tomorrow (CoT). This has now become a significant part of our content, allowing us to refer to those we believe will become leaders within their industry.
CoT is now communicated in a number of ways from written Q&A's and branded merchandise to printed materials and mailshots. We believe that the Creators of Tomorrow can act as a statement of intent, reflecting the passion, drive and dedication of those that feel as connected to creativity as we do.
Inspired by iconic movements like Andy Warhol's Factory and Tony Wilson's Hacienda, we wanted to create a club that gave our community a place to connect. Designed to include inspiring talks and informal conversations, Fresh Thursday was launched in Coventry (UK) during 2018.
Featuring a wide-range of presentations and appealing to a growing number of guests, Fresh Thursday has instigated connections, developed collaborations and allowed our online community to come together.
Fresh Thursday is not driven by status or followers but by the ambition of those that attend. We believe in the collective power of like-minded people and how common interests support growth, authenticity and success.
We are committed to developing our community and providing resources for creative people and those that consume their work. We will share online content, build our events schedule and compliment it with printed editions of our magazine.
We would like to harness retail platforms in future allowing us to stock and sell products created specifically for us via those we've previously collaborated with. We would also like to look at building an annual festival of independent culture and potentially a consultation service that uses creativity to steer traditional, failing organisations.
Our charity partner
We have been long-term supporters of Kairos, a Coventry based charity that believes in creating a world free from the exploitation of women. Their work is driven by a small but passionate team that aim to increase the life-chances, choices and well-being of women caught up in prostitution, affected by or at risk of sexual exploitation.
We frequently work with Kairos to deliver creative solutions, immersive workshops and more recently fundraising to help provide a small contribution to their tireless work. We are looking to increase these opportunities moving forward and plan to provide a percentage of our revenue by 2021.
Risks and challenges
Edition one has been designed, proof-read and signed-off. We have received quotes from recommended printers, suppliers and distributors after samples were approved. With your help printing, delivery and distribution will be met once funds are secured.
Our community is extremely excited by the opportunity to be seen by a global audience so we would appreciate any support you can provide. Some of the content featured above may change. However, the page count will remain so anything that needs altering before print production begins will be replaced with similar content.
Edition one will be an A4 publication consisting of 68 pages printed on a 350gsm cover material and 115gsm text material. There will be 4,000 copies produced and distributed to various sources including the Birmingham Design Festival, our mailing list and those who have backed rewards featuring a hard copy.
