Friends, this is it—three years in the making—the final piece of my four-part project: Dance Again the album. The goal is in sight. Thank you for helping bring this project to life!
Three years ago, during the life of our daughter Olivia—who was deemed “incompatible with life”—I began writing what eventually became a book and a matching music album called So Am I: 14 Months of Life, Living, and Letting Go. Two years ago when Olivia passed away I began a second book and a second album called Dance Again: Grief is Healing.
So Am I came from the days of a father of a severely disabled, incomprehensibly beautiful baby girl. We lived those moments together on death’s door. So many goodbyes. So much temptation to close off from the pain. So many new deep breaths and starts again. So much Fear. And always a voice whispering the word, “rest.”
Dance Again came from the days of a father of an angel. We lived those moments apart, on each side of death’s door. So many tears. So many breakdowns. Talks of divorce. A couple thoughts of suicide. So many new deep breaths and starts again. So much Fear. And always a voice whispering the word, “rest.”
Rest. If these four pieces of work can say only one word, that’s the word. If our world needs to hear one word and only one word, that’s the word. Rest.
My vision is to create four physical “things”—two paperback books and two vinyl albums—to offer as an extension of the love Olivia gave to me.
The messages in these books and songs aren’t unique—they’re part of a message that has been transmitted forever to humanity… but the message is getting louder, and our need to hear it is becoming impossible to ignore. I’m amazed at the strong and beautiful voice of Olivia—a little girl who could hardly breathe right, let alone say a single word—and I am honored and humbled to add my voice to hers to help transmit this forever-message to you.
Thank you for receiving the message.
Thank you for helping me do this.
Risks and challenges
The dates are set for October (digital releases) and December (physical releases) this year. Those are just estimates as the recording process is a variable and the mixing, mastering, pressing, and digital distribution are all done by other professionals who have their own timeline. All that to say, we could deliver earlier or later depending on how each step goes.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
