What people are saying about Konnected
Millions of Homes are Pre-wired to be Smart Homes
Millions of homes are built pre-wired for alarm systems, but most of these systems are decades outdated. Wired alarm systems have traditionally been closed systems that you had to pay a monitoring company up to $100 per month to use!
Many homeowners with pre-installed alarm systems rarely or never use them because they are inconvenient, ineffective or too expensive to maintain.
Now with the Konnected Alarm Panel, you can free yourself from expensive contracts, and at the same time, connect all of your door & window sensors, motion detectors, smoke/CO2 detectors & more to your favorite home automation hub or service.

Connect Your Wired Alarm System to Your Smart Home app
Konnected makes your home's old wired alarm system relevant again by connecting it to popular home automation hubs. Today, Konnected integrates with SmartThings. Home Assistant support will be ready this January!
Now you can monitor and control your home from anywhere using your smartphone with no recurring fees.
Use your smartphone to monitor the security of your home and get notified right away if something is awry.
Secure and automate your home by combining thousands of smart home lights, voice assistants, cameras and more smart devices on the market today.
Infinitely Expandable. Supports Any Size Home.
Each Konnected Alarm Panel supports up to 6 sensors or zones and one switched output like a siren or chime. You can simply add more Konnected Alarm Panels to expand your system to 12, 18, 24 or more zones. The device is smaller than a credit card and low-power, so it's easy to mount several Konnected Alarm Panels in place of your old alarm panel. See our backer rewards for kits designed for any size home.
Works With Existing Wired Sensors
All kinds of wired security system sensors work with Konnected. The majority of wired door and window sensors, motion sensors, glass-break detectors, leak detectors, and some smoke and carbon monoxide detectors with external signaling capability can easily be connected Konnected Alarm Panel!
Who is the Konnected Alarm Panel For?
If your home has a wired alarm system, or is pre-wired for one, you can use Konnected to turn your home into a Smart Home. Any brand of alarm system will work, as long as it has wired sensors. Even systems 20+ years old work great!
If you're building a new home you can make it the smartest home ever for a very low cost! Pre-wire your home for alarm system sensors, but skip the expensive house call from the local alarm company and connect your sensors to a Konnected Alarm Panel instead.
To use Konnected you need:
- A home that's pre-wired for an alarm system (even if you don't have or use an alarm system)
- A Smart Home hub: The Samsung SmartThings hub is a great choice for people new to home automation, and it's available on Amazon.
Open source enthusiasts might enjoy Home Assistant, the open source home automation framework you can run yourself on a Raspberry Pi.
Hear it From Our Customers
Konnected started as an open source project in January this year. Then we started selling the "Konnected DIY kit" containing off-the-shelf components pre-loaded with the Konnected software. Over 500 SmartThings users around the world have used Konnected DIY kits to connect their wired alarm system to SmartThings. Hear what real users have to say about how well it works.
Based on the incredible feedback from these users, we designed the new Konnected Alarm Panel to be just as effective as the DIY kit but now easier to install and made from higher quality components designed to last.
Seamless SmartThings Compatibility
The Konnected Alarm Panel already integrates seamlessly with Samsung's SmartThings™ and the built-in Smart Home Monitor app for self-monitoring your home from anywhere with zero recurring fees.
SmartThings™ has both an Android and iOS app that the whole family can use to monitor and control their home from anywhere.
Home Assistant Integration Coming Soon!
We're also big fans of Home Assistant, the open source home automation platform. The ideals and philosophy of Home Assistant are 100% in-line with Konnected's mission of open, accessible home security, so it makes so much sense for Konnected and Home Assistant to work together.
We've just started on our Home Assistant integration and expect it to be ready for beta testing by the time the alarm panel ships.
Turn Your Keypads into Smart Home Touchpads
Replace those outdated alarm system keypads with a modern and functional touch-screen tablet!
After converting your alarm system into a Smart Home with the Konnected Alarm Panel, your keypads are not needed. Our friends at ActionTiles created an amazing Smart Home touch-screen app for SmartThings that Konnected users love.

Fits Your Lifestyle
When your alarm system is part of a Smart Home, you don't have to worry about remembering to set the alarm. Automate it! Your smart home knows when you're home and knows when you're away, so it can arm and disarm automatically. If there's ever activity detected at home while you're away, you can be notified right away.
How it Works
Open. No Contracts.
Konnected is built using open source software and hardware. This allows us to deliver a product to you at a fair and affordable price.
Being open is part of our culture and mission, and our goal is to enable you to use the home automation or home security platform of your choice with your wired alarm system devices. Hear more from Nate on being open:
Zero Recurring Fees
Self-monitor your home from anywhere with your smartphone without any recurring fees or contracts. Why pay as much as $40/month for a monitoring company when you're always glued to your smartphone anyway? SmartThings as well as most other home automation frameworks allow multiple users in your household to receive instant push notifications when unusual activity is detected in your home.
Older wired alarm systems required an analog phone line to communicate with the outside world. Now you can cut the cord on your phone line, too!
Pro Monitoring Available
If you want professional monitoring peace of mind, 3rd party integrations with SmartThings™ and Scout Alarm can alert police if a break-in is detected. You may even get an insurance discount.
Build the Smartest Home
Konnected is perfect for new home construction, too. Wired sensors are far less expensive than wireless sensors, never need batteries, and can be hidden inside the walls and door frames. Pre-wire your home for an alarm system but don't call the local alarm company, get the Konnected Alarm Panel!
Features in Depth
- Connects to up to six wired sensors and one powered siren from your existing alarm system, or using inexpensive wired sensors in new builds.
- Infinitely expandable by adding more modules. Each Konnected Alarm Panel module connects independently to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi.
- Works with all low-voltage Normally Open (NO) and Normally Closed (NC) wired sensors.
- The on-board Wi-Fi chip syncs the status of your sensors in real-time to your favorite home automation framework.
- Door & Window contact sensors. Works with all common door and window contact sensors. These sensors do not require power or batteries and are virtually invisible when installed in the walls.
- Motion & Glass-break sensors. The Konnected panel powers and monitors all common wired alarm system motion sensors and glass-break sensors.
- Smoke & CO detectors. Many interconnected type smoke and CO detectors can also be used with Konnected. See our documentation for details.
- Siren or Strobe. Powers and switches your wired alarm system siren or strobe when an intrusion is detected and on demand.
- Door Chime or Beep. Play a sound or make a "beep beep" when a door is opened just like your old alarm system. But now that your home is a Smart Home, you can customize when and which doors to alert on. Konnected comes with a piezo buzzer for a simple "beep" sound.
- Modular design. The Wi-Fi module is removable and replaceable. This enables upgrades and servicing without re-wiring.
- Low power consumption. Use the included power adapter or piggyback power from the old alarm panel AUX power output. Also connects easily to off the shelf 12VDC backup batteries.
- Mountable. Can be mounted on a wall or inside an alarm system enclosure (avoid metal enclosures to preserve Wi-Fi signal).
- Backup battery available. Add $33 to any pledge and also receive a 12V DC mini-UPS backup battery for your Konnected system.
Installs Easily In Minutes
Installation is easy and all you need is a screwdriver. We're working on step by step installation videos to make the process impossible to mess up. You don't need to be an electrician or electronics whiz to install Konnected.
Step 1: Label wires. Before disconnecting your old alarm system (if you have one), label your wires using the included wire labels and how-to guide.
Step 2: Remove old panel. Unplug the power, then disconnect the wires and remove your old alarm system panel.
Step 3: Connect the Konnected Panel. Mount and connect the wires to the Konnected panel. Everything is labeled so you know exactly where it should go. We have great tech support if you have questions or issues.
Step 4: Wi-Fi module. Insert the Wi-Fi module into the Konnected Alarm Panel and plug it in. Now you're ready to configure your smart home using SmartThings or Home Assistant.
Need Professional Installation?
Small. Simple. Really Affordable.
Once you install and mount the Konnected Alarm Panel in your alarm system cabinet or closet, you'll forget it's even there. We decided not to design a case or enclosure for the Konnected alarm panel yet, so we can keep the cost down and speed up our time to market. After all, most alarm panels are just circuit boards anyway.
You can mount the Konnected Alarm Panel easily to a wall or cabinet with screws, standoffs, or even just double-sided foam mounting tape. With your support, we'd like to begin designing a self-contained mounting option or enclosure next year.

But That's Not All
Take a look at how Nate has also used a Konnected DIY kit to control his sprinklers and garage door. Konnected is not just for alarm systems!
Konnected started out of personal need fueled by Nate's passion for automating and improving his life with technology. After posting his creation on GitHub and the SmartThings Community Forum, Nate quickly realized that Konnected could really help so many people, and was drawn into the project.
To test the market, Nate began selling "Konnected DIY kits" assembled from NodeMCU components he imported from China and flashed with his software. The demand was outstanding, and in a few months over 500 SmartThings users worldwide purchased our DIY kits and converted their wired alarm systems.
After many months of learning, experimenting, talking with customers, designing, selling and debugging his DIY kit solution, Nate developed the Konnected Alarm Panel to make his solution easier and more accessible to everyone.
In order to manufacture the Konnected Alarm Panel, we need to meet certain order minimums to get the unit pricing that allows us to sell them to you at a fair and affordable price. It's a large up-front investment to manufacture and stock our first custom hardware device. Kickstarter is the best platform to build support from backers like you. Please back us today so we can make the Konnected Alarm Panel a reality!
The Konnected Community
We have a great group of loyal fans and backers since we got started this July distributing DIY kits with Konnected software. Find us on Facebook and join the Konnected Users Group to connect with other Konnected users.
We've selected Houston, TX based MacroFab as our assembly and distribution partner so that we can build and deliver your Konnected Alarm Panel rewards as quickly as possible. Our designs are ready to go, and as soon as this project is funded we're ready to start manufacturing and assembly!
The first 1,000 - 2,000 Alarm Panel boards will be assembled in Houston and delivered to backers in January 2018. If you want one of these first production devices, make sure to choose a reward that says "guaranteed first production batch".
If we reach our stretch goals, our second production run will begin shortly after the first in MacroFab's Mexico facility, with an estimated delivery in February or March 2018.
The Konnected Alarm Panel is patent pending.

Risks and challenges
We're pretty confident that we'll be able to bring the Konnected Alarm Panel to market quickly, because our fully-functional prototypes are working great and our manufacturing process is confidently handled by MacroFab.
Of course, many things can go wrong as we finalize the design, packaging, and documentation and begin assembly at scale. We're fortunate that our circuit board is fairly simple in design, and the open-design NodeMCU Wi-Fi modules are readily available in volume, lowering the risk from a manufacturing standpoint.
We also expect to need to scale up our technical support and customer service capacity quickly after the Kickstarter.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
