My Dear Friends,
I'm so excited to record my long awaited third album. This one is going to be the best one yet, but I need your help and your pledge to make this happen! I've written twelve fantastic songs over the past few years and it's finally time to share them with you. It's a beautiful collection that will hopefully have as much meaning to you as it does to me. From having artwork created, to working with a great producer and a beautiful Minneapolis studio, to being blessed with a new band that will deliver the rich soul of the songs- I am now ready!
Before I go any further, I would like to thank John Munson for helping me arrange the song on my video, provide the studio and for playing the upright bass. He has been a great help to me! Also, thanks to Richard Medek for playing drums and mixing and mastering the song. Thanks to Joe Pollock of Joe Pollock films for the great video and finally, Thanks to Marieka Heinlen (Design) for all my lovely artwork. I couldn't have made it this far without you all!!
Why is my limit $20,000? Well, as they say, it takes a village.
Here’s a breakdown of how I came up with my goal, and realized the minimum amount needed to produce “Hiding in the Light.”
First and foremost, there's recording studio time. My plan this time around is to rent out a studio called 'Terrarium' in downtown Minneapolis.http://www.the-terrarium.com/
Their studio rate is $550 a day. They have a beautiful piano and separated rooms, so I can bring my musicians in and record all of my songs live. I'm estimating I'll need to be there for 5-7 days. Once the songs are recorded, there's mixing and mastering of the CD, which is at a lower rate and will take a few weeks.
I'll also need to pay my studio musicians for their time. I'll have a bass player, drummer, strings, vibes, percussion etc. These people are professionals, and usually get the job done quickly, but each of them charge a rate from $75-150 a day.
I’ve also tallied the fees that Kickstarter and Amazon require, time off work, artwork, and web site update. Then there is last, but BEST, printing my new album! The first printing of the CD's and digital downloads are estimated at $2,000
Being that my first two albums were funded by the sale of my car and the mortgaging of my first house, I'm keenly aware of the importance of keeping a deadline and staying on budget. Plus, I've become very attached to my Minivan and my children to their home :)
How can you be a part of this?
By backing my project here on kickstarter, you directly enable me to reach these goals. In exchange for your pledge, I've come up with all kinds of fun, lovely rewards. Buttons, digital downloads, autographed CD's, limited edition silkscreened cover art, handwritten lyrics, in-home concerts.. the list goes on! In a season of giving, I look forward to sharing these gifts with you and the blessing of your love and support.
Risks and challenges
This new album is the culmination of years of hard work, joy, sacrifice and inspiration. I have created a detailed, organized budget and a timeline for completion and I have a realistic buffer for any bumps in the road. Most of you know me, and if you do, you know that I always work my butt off on whatever I set my sights. This is my full vision, and no matter what the setbacks, it will be completed with your strength and inspiration moving me forward. Come along for the ride!
All my love,
- (32 days)
