Even before I was born, art and poetry surrounded the world that awaited my arrival. It was ingrained in my DNA. Perhaps, that's the reason why the arts, poetry in particular have become a primary way of expressing myself.
One of the goals I had set for myself was to publish a book of poetry before I turned 18. To many, it is a milestone for independence, those very first steps into adulthood. Not only do I turn 18 later this year, I also completed my last year of high school this summer. This also became a year of coping, healing, learning and overcoming. It has been a year where I discovered my true persona/self and coincidently the poetry I wrote over the years has become a documentation of it all. Although I have been wanting to compile my writings/poems for a while now, the timing never felt right, until now. The pieces that are in this book are a collection of my experiences, reflections and worldly encounters that I have never felt comfortable sharing until this year.
With this book, it is my hope to sow the seeds of personal growth by having tangible proof of where I was, where I am now and what I will be reflecting back on years from now. I am hoping that penning this book will enhance my learnings, and at the same time allow those with similar experiences or thoughts to connect with it on a personal/some level. It is also more than that. I truly want to celebrate the beauty that has always surrounded my life through art, community and poetry.
I hope to raise $5000 towards the publication of my book of poetry, as well as a launch party to celebrate this milestone with you all.
Funding Goals & Incentives:
Currently, my goal is to fundraise $5,000 dollars, which will help publish the first 500 copies of my book, launch party and cover any additional expenses related to marketing and distribution. Anything above my initial goal of $5,000 will go towards keeping the book in print for as long as possible.
Risks and challenges
Challenges post funding can vary from venue cancellations to publication delays. I am lucky to have a team that will help me at every step of the way. I hope to make the best of every challenge.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
