A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. What is NanoSound?
NanoSound is an audio product line designed for Raspberry Pi. Partnering with Volumio, we built a true Hi-Fi Digital Music player which is feature rich, an audiophile sound system offering Bit-perfect playback and uncompromised Audio Quality.
NanoSound series include Analog and Digital interfaces boards, Amps and speaker which Audiophiles can build their own audio system. You can mix and match and choose the best components which suits you. Assembling is extremely easy as our nearly previous 300 backers of NanoSound DAC have tried. No soldering required!
We also provide Ready-To-Run kits which works out of the box.

Why Raspberry Pi?
Raspberry Pi is a small and affordable computer. More than 14 Million Raspberry Pi were sold worldwide. The latest Raspberry Pi 3 comes with built-in Wi-Fi, Quad-Core CPU and has 1GB of RAM.
It’s low in power consumption , fan-less (means far less noise) and support for I2S (protocol for carrying digital audio data) made it a perfect platform for uncompromised audio quality at an affordable price.
What is I2S? How does it compare to USB DACs?

I²S (Inter-IC Sound), pronounced eye-squared-ess, is an electrical serial bus interface standard used for connecting digital audio devices together. It is used to communicate PCM audio data between integrated circuits in an electronic device. The I²S bus separates clock and serial data signals, resulting in a lower jitter than is typical of communications systems that recover the clock from the data stream.
I2S is the protocol of choice for digital audio signal transmission. This allow for much shorter signal paths comparing to other signal paths such as using USB DAC.
Shorter Path is always a good thing as it avoids signal lost and you spending money on expensive cables!

The amp add-on board for NanoSound DAC, NanoSound Amp^2 (Pronounced as "Amp Square"), include both a headphone amplifier as well as a very efficient 5Watt speaker amplifier.
It runs very cool due to its up to 90% efficiency allowing the whole unit (Raspberry Pi + NanoSound DAC + NanoSound Amp^2) to be powered by one single microUSB cable (or individually if you choose to). It's surprisingly loud and is enough to power a large room or a small lounge as demonstrated.
Our aim for Power Amp^2 is to build the most powerful and best sounding Amp on Raspberry Pi foot print. A power supply for Power Amp^2 is included if you choose this reward. Additionally, like the Amp^2, we have added an independent Headphone Amplifier for personal enjoyment.

With Dual driver and a 3 inch Woofer, we have specifically engineered the Speaker 3 to be as full range as possible for it's size. With great clarify and full bass, it's a perfect companion for our Amp modules.

For deeper and punchier low end , we introduce a larger 5" Woofer in Speaker 5, with a wider frequency response and a higher power handling.

Due to weight and shipping requirements, Speaker 5 will be available on special order and not available as reward.
Risks and challenges
Our first NanoSound DAC project was delivered successfully with proven track record.
As you can see from the video and product demos, the prototype is pretty much working and completed state. Our engineering and development are very confident in delivering the product on time with satisfaction.
Possible Risks of delay:
- Unexpected manufacturing problems during initial production. We will ensure that they are found as early as possible to minimize delays
