What is it?
The Sidewinder is a Lego compatible looping roller coaster construction toy. Following in the footsteps of the wildly successful CDX Cyclone, the Sidewinder shares the same track system and train design, but adds many new building block elements that mimic the style of modern looping roller coasters. The result is a model that is easy to assemble and fun to customize. Multiple kit rewards encourage the user to build larger, more elaborate custom designs. The possibilities are endless!
What do you get?
The Sidewinder comes with over 700 pieces, including everything you need to build a working roller coaster model. All of the base parts, support structure, and track pieces are included in the kit. Advanced molding techniques ensure high quality parts that assemble with a snug fit. Easy to follow instructions will have you up and running quickly. Best of all, you can customize your model with accessories you build using your existing Lego bricks.
It takes a lot of engineering time and tooling money to develop an ambitious project such as the Sidewinder. When we set out in 2016 to design the Cyclone, our funding goal was easily met thanks to all of our backers’ support. We feel we delivered on our promise of an easy to build, fun roller coaster model.
A Totally Customizable System
Since the CDX Block system is completely customizable, you can build even bigger and more amazing roller coasters by mixing the parts included in your Sidewinder kits. The coaster below was built with only two Sidewinder kits and goes upside-down three times!
What did we learn from our last Kickstarter?
Despite having a successful Kickstarter with the Cyclone two years ago, we felt there were some lessons to be learned from our campaign.
The biggest complaint we received from our backers was the high cost of shipping overseas. This is a huge expense and it discouraged many people from supporting the campaign. This time we are partnering with a European distributor to fulfill the rewards in Europe and the UK. This means MUCH lower shipping costs to our backers in the EU and UK.
Another problem we encountered (not unique to our campaign) was late delivery. We estimated a May delivery and we actually began shipping in late August/early September. While our backers were understanding, we felt we let everyone down a bit. For the Sidewinder project we have a distinct advantage over the original Cyclone: over half of the tooling for the parts already exists! We only have to make the molds for the base pieces, footers, support columns, and a few other unique parts. This should cut our delivery time down significantly and lower the amount of money we need to successfully fund the project.

Risks and challenges
Risks and challenges
With over 14 years experience in molding roller coaster model parts, CoasterDynamix (CDX Blocks) is familiar with the plastic composition and tolerances needed to design a reliable working model. The Cyclone taught us what we needed to create a quality block based roller coaster kit. We hope to build on this experience with the Sidewinder. Our team of engineers and designers is dedicated to producing the best roller coaster models on the market.
