About

NAUVI allows users the ability to turn devices on and off using their voice. The software provided allows a custom activation word, phrases and responses. The user can prompt the system to even ask questions. Then, based on how the user responds, custom actions can take place. Along with voice control, the system allows the user the ability to control devices through their smart phones, tablets and computers. They can control devices locally when they are at home or remotely through the cloud while they are away. It's a system to help connect your existing devices and offer them new ways to be controlled and connected to smart networks.

Here is one more demonstration video of the Question and Answer Highlight:

Languages Supported : English, German, Italian, French, Swedish, Dutch, Finnish, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.

Each day when I wanted to leave my office, I had to turn off several monitors, lights, computers and devices; Even if I wanted to leave for a short time. This happens almost every day, multiple times a day. So when I come back into the office I have to turn everything back on again and it is quite the hassle. It got to the point where I almost wanted to leave everything on which would have

Instead, I decided that something had to change and I started day dreaming about what I wanted to accomplish (ideally).

I envisioned walking in and commanding my office to come alive using only my voice. My workstation would power on, all the lights would go on, my computer monitors would turn on and some music would even start playing to welcome me in. My path would be lit and I wouldn't be fumbling in the dark for switches any more. Each trip out of the office would be as simple as telling the office I was leaving. My return would be just as simple; I would walk in and say "Office wake up, I'm back" and everything would return back to where it was before I left.

So, I started working on creating just what I envisioned and eventually I had a working prototype. Even after I had it working I kept working on it and it got better and better with each new change I made. As the ideas kept coming so did my development. Soon I realized other people would love to use this as well and some people with certain disabilities might even be able to improve their daily lives with such a device. From that point on, I was building the system for myself as well as anyone else that would ever end up using it. With this new paradigm, I realized that I had four main objectives moving forward.

The system had to be...

  • Easy to Use
  • Full of Customizable Options (Without Any Coding)
  • Beautifully Designed
  • Accessible on Multiple Platforms & Devices

So, after multiple prototype variations to the physical device and several thousand to the software, the system is finally ready for the next phase required to take it to market.

Now I want to cover as much information as I can for you and really go in-depth. So in the remaining information on this page I will get as specific as possible in an effort to answer questions that you might have regarding the project. If you are ready to support the project already, GREAT! If you want to know more, read on. :)

Here are the topics I will cover moving forward:

  • Stretch Goals
  • The Rewards
  • About The Voice Control
  • About NAUVI's Base
  • Expanding NAUVI
  • Additional ways to control NAUVI(other than voice)
  • Message for developers
  • Continuing Development
  • "The Team" | Who I am
  • Technical Details

When you talk to your system, you can refer to it by name. You can give it relative names like "living room" or you can give it a personal name like "Sarah". You can also go completely nameless and have the system respond to phrases alone.

Using this activation word (or custom name), the system waits and listens for recognition before it will do anything. This helps with false positive interactions but is not required as the system is very receptive to human speech.

Adding Custom Phrases

Watch the video below or continue for the description

To add a phrase you first click the phrases button when you load the NAUVI software.

To add a custom action, you first type your phrase in the box at the top. The green arrows will guide you as you progress on each page. Then you select which connections will turn on, which will turn off, and which will have no change when that phrase is spoken.

Simply click the outlet to toggle through the setting. When you are finished, click Add Custom Phrase. That's it, now that phrase is setup for your use!

Adding Built-in Actions
NAUVI also has built-in commands that do even more. These too can be attached to a custom phrase.

To use a built-in action, you start by clicking the corresponding tab for built-in actions at the top. Next, you click in the box that says "Enter Your Custom Phrase". When you do, the box will clear and you can start typing your phrase. Then simply select which action from below will be taken when you speak that phrase.

After you select an action, the button to add your custom phrase and built in action will appear. Click it and you are done.

Here is a list and description of each built-in action that's in the system so far:

Adding System Responses

To add a system response, simply click the corresponding tab at the top. Next, any phrase added into the system will show up in the box to the left. When you select one of these phrases, the box on the right will populate with a list of system responses for that specific phrase.

If you notice, you can add more than one response. That's because each time you speak that particular phrase to NAUVI, it will randomly choose one of the system responses from this list and speak it to you. This happens after NAUVI performs the action associated with the initial spoken phrase.

**Right now the verbal system responses come from the PC speakers and not NAUVI's speaker. NAUVI has it's own way to communicate and will still chirp for commands unless you have turned it off otherwise.

Adding Dynamic Content

Dynamic variables add an assortment of current information to system responses. For example. you can add [time] for the current time, [currentconditions] for the current weather and [temp] for the current temperature and more! Use these within your custom responses to get current information to help you in your daily life.

*Internet connection required for weather

Questions & Answer Based Actions
So now we can add phrases, perform actions and even have NAUVI talking to us. Obviously, the next step is to have certain spoken phrases trigger questions from NAUVI. Then, depending on how you respond, a corresponding action will occur. Here's an example:

Now based on your response, NAUVI will activate the corresponding action associated with that last response to the question. In this case, the connection that controls the coffee maker would be activated. If you would have said "no, not today" then no action could have been applied.

  • You can add as many answers to each question as you like.
  • Each answer can have a different action attached to it
  • Each answer is question specific so using answers like "yes" and "No" can work on multiple questions.

Want to control more devices? Want to control something across the room or in another room altogether? Expansions are the solution.

"Together we can bring technologies that should exist into existence."

Implementing a system such as this opens the opportunity for a whole new range of solutions you could develop or provide. Additionally, by building devices that work using this system, your inventions can be controlled through voice control. You could make devices that work with other systems and technologies; Merging this system with others. The system uses the ATmega2560 chip and there are a lot of open pins you will be able to utilize. The circuit boards will be set up to allow a plug-and-play ability for these available ports. Additionally, within the community forum I will provide the firmware code as well as the system's software code for your download and use. You will have the ability to edit the code/add your ideas and then upload the code within the community to share with other users.
The Developer reward will provide the following:

  • User & Developer forum access
  • NAUVI Base Device
  • Source Code
  • Firmware Code
  • A PDF manual and instruction guide book for developers
  • Video tutorials

**The developer reward is actually structured to provide the tools necessary for development at no additional cost. Simply support this project above the wireless threshold and you can request the development items.

The system is already working great but I am not stopping here. Moving forward, development will continue to make the product better and better.

Here are a few items that made the list so far:

  • Decrease Physical Size During the manufacturing process, I plan to reduce the overall size of the device to a more slim design. Current estimations are projected at 5.4"H X 10.5"W and 2"D.
  • Increase Corner Radius
  • Decrease Logo Size
  • Add Remote Firmware Update Ability
  • Increase Extension Capacity
  • Add Timed applications
  • Time of day based responses

The Road Ahead

Building the Community
From now until near the end of this funding period I will be building the forum for our community. It will be up and running by the end of this funding period because I want to immediately welcome you in and open the lines of communication. I want to hear your ideas and have the ability to ask you "hey what do you think of this?".

Estimated Completion date: End of funding period

Enclosure Designs & Manufacturing

The CAD files have been started and are nearing completion. I will work with the manufacturer on the designs throughout the production process.

Design Estimated Completion Date:  June 7th

Electronics Designs & Manufacturing
So far, mostly off the shelf parts have been used for the internal components. The base device was prototyped using an Arduino Mega and a variety of other components so you know it's hackable(in the good sense). During the production process I will be developing custom boards to help reduce the number of internal wires and reducing internal component size requirements.

Design Estimated Completion Date: By June 7th

Software & Firmware Development
The final software & firmware has already been started and are nearly complete with a lot of the anticipated features implemented. The software needs some finishing touches but all the functionality that was shown in the video is already implemented.

Estimated Firmware Completion date: By March 2nd
Estimated
Software Completion date: By June April 1st

Certifications
Using a third-party company, we will obtain all the necessary certifications required. This process involves testing both the base and expansion devices for an assortment of potentials. If an issue should arise, adjustments and modifications will be made accordingly and the units will then be re-tested until they pass. I have blocked out over two months to obtain the required certifications in an effort to avoid any project delays.

Estimated Certification Start Date: By April 1st
Estimated Finish Date
: By June 7th

Assembly & Shipping
As each manufacturer completes components, they will be shipped to Pennsylvania where we will wire, program and quality test each unit prior to shipping.

Estimated Assembly Start Date: June 14th
Estimated
Shipping Start Date: June 25th

As far as this project is concerned, everything that has been done this far including the websites, logo design, graphics, firmware, electronics, hardware designs, prototypes, software code and even the video have all been done by one person. Really, the only third-party companies used so far have been:

  • a CNC shop to cut out prototype pieces
  • a sign company that cut out the vinyl decals.

Everything else has been a solo venture.

Adding a team
I have started doing the preliminary tasks to start building a solid team and if funding will provide I will start adding team members when and if it becomes appropriate. Making sure that we have the funds for the molds, the certifications, the shipping, the taxes etc takes precedence over reducing my workload. I estimate that If this project can surpass the $250k Stretch Goal it will be safe to start adding team members. So in preparation of such an event, over the past six months I have been stacking resumes and doing brief interviews with candidates from around the area. I live in a college town so it's not too hard to find good talent. :)

Who I am
I guess typically, people try to find a job that might fit with what their interests are. I work almost backwards from this mindset and pursue my interests directly while helping people on my path towards the perfection of these interests as an entrepreneur.

In the past, I have worked with non-profit organizations, I have been a business contract consultant, a graphic designer, a web developer, a software developer and now I am adding inventor to my list of achievements.

Some of my previous victories include creating software for large nationally and internationally recognized brands as well as successfully facilitating contracts for large industries, pulling in over $110 million for my clients in 2011 alone.

I am self-taught in almost everything I do. I am constantly learning and pushing my boundaries. Passion and inspiration drive me through my day to day life. My experience and knowledge come directly from my hard work, determination, and persistence.

With this project, we have an opportunity to change the way we interact with our environments. We also have an opportunity to create a new product that could directly benefit the lives of the disabled and the elderly. It's a win-win type of scenario that you can feel proud to support.

This will also provide a very useful tool (and toy) for developers.

The money that we get from your support will directly help pay for the manufactured products and certifications.

With your help, we can:

  • Convert the prototypes to production-ready models
  • Obtain all the regulatory approvals required
  • Create a documentary that will give necessary information to other inventors like myself to help them bring their ideas to market
  • Deliver developer kits and open innovation to the global community
  • Bring to market a valuable tool that could assist the disabled and elderly

In return, you can get an amazing product that will literally change the way you interact with your world.

SO HOW CAN NAUVI HELP YOU?

Risks and challenges

Moving forward, there are six main areas that I will focus on. These include: electronics, enclosures, software development, assembly, regulatory certifications and distribution of rewards.

It sounds like a lot of work - because it is. However, it is nothing that cannot be overcome. In the project so far, I have already overcome an equal amount of hurdles without the help of anyone outside the company. Now, a lot of these tasks will involve delegation to third-party companies while I continue working on other improvements.

I know how to meet deadlines and set projects up so that they will be successful. It’s working with third-party companies that can usually throw a wrench in the system. That’s why delegation is important but only second to finding reputable manufacturers to work with. Other than that, the rest of this project should be like the first half – long hours, little sleep and a lot of coffee!

I look forward to everyone's involvement and participation within the community forum as we progress. I intend on polling major decisions and getting your feedback during the process. I am open to hear your ideas on what you think the system might need to make it better. So, I hope to see you there!

Thank you for your support. - Soon we could all be having Nameless Interactions!
