About

My Name is Myrddin, I was born in 1983 and I make music since my childhood already. Since 2006 I create Eurobeat under the alias of Anthony McBazooka. Unlike today there wasn't any indie Eurobeat scene around and it was not easy at all to get any informations about getting the sound right. I was still more focused on other Genres like Italo Disco and also Rock and Metal. So it took me quite a long time to learn how to really sound like Eurobeat. It took me 9 years to finish my first album with original Eurobeat songs which is a collection of songs I wrote in that period and have revised them again and again in that time.

I sing my entire life long and started playing guitar when I was 10 years old. When I was 12 I made my first compositions and learned MIDI programming in Cubase (back then it didn't support Audio). I also learned to play keyboards. When I was 15 my father got an iMac (one of those where you could choose between 5 colours) and I was finally able to record my voice and guitars, so I also started learning music production including mixing and mastering. My first attempts were to try to make Techno but I only had a Roland MT-32 as sound device. Later when I discovered The Prodigy I tried to make breakbeats which was even more difficult with the equipment I had. When I was 14 I also fell in love with 80s music and this seemed a lot easier to do with what I got. So for a long time I was focused on making 80s Synthpop and New Wave. In my early 20s I spent more time listening to Metal and so I decided to improve my guitar skills for not only being able to use the guitar to support my vocals but also to learn how to play solos with the right technique. In 2004 I wrote an Italo Disco style song called Yo te quiero and posted a demo in an Italo Disco forum. Years later I found the song uploaded by Mexican Italo Disco fans on YouTube and even a video of people dancing to it in the famous Patrick Miller disco in Mexico City. Later I got a record deal with Flashback Records to sell the song on Vinyl. This experience taught me to not hold back with releasing my music. The perfect moment will never come if you just wait for it. But if you put your stuff out there, you'll never know what may happen.

Many things happened since my first original Eurobeat album in 2015. Back then, SEB was still alive and I was trying to catch up with the Eurobeat sound from that series. The album consisted mostly of songs which I have written between 2006 and 2014 – a period in which Eurobeat was never my musical main focus. That changed in 2016 after I started a series of Eurobeat covers on YouTube. I really put a lot of dedication into that project. Then I even found the courage to talk to some SEB producers because I wanted to make it on SEB at least once. I didn't know yet about the overall situation of Eurobeat and the SEB series. Later I had a creative crisis because of a lot of things that happened or didn't happen. During the break I took, Eurobeat memes became more and more popular and this also lead to my YouTube channel suddenly getting a lot of attention – especially for my acoustic cover of Gas Gas Gas and my Eurobeat cover of Dschinghis Khan – Moskau. Already before my break I started arranging some songs from the Kunio-Kun game which is also known as Nintendo World Cup. The songs turned out to become far more complex and experimental than everything I did before and this should also become the directive for my songs which I released on what I call my second period of being a YouTuber.

Then the news was released that SEB will be discontinued. Should it be the end of Eurobeat or is it a chance for it to develop in a way that wasn't possible before? This is a thing that still needs to be found out yet. So I made the decision to drive what I began full throttle to the wall. I want to lead Eurobeat into Post-Eurobeat, giving it the chance to become something greater than it was before, to evolve into a genre that has more variety, more possibilities to play around with, that opens up to new sounds and composition techniques. At the same time it the connection to its roots shall be maintained. So what will happen is not a completely revolution but a slow evolution of the genre with every album being released going further into exploring new spaces.

My second original album – which will carry the name Initial T as a reference to the Twingo which I owe a lot of my success, as well as to Initial D which is for many people the source for discovering the genre – will be a first step to connecting Eurobeat with new, different musical influences without going the obvious way of simply adding modern EDM sounds to Eurobeat which has already been tried many times. The name Twingo is a mixture of three different music genres: Twist, Swing, and Tango. Three genres that have a very organic feel to them, because they depend very much on the musician's ability to put emotions into the way they play the songs – into the shuffling or delayed rhythms as well as into the melodic expression. So I want to give Eurobeat a more organic feel as well, using more and also unusual real musical instruments, adding elements from Folk and Fusion Jazz while of course also keeping what has already been absorbed from Rock/Metal and EDM.

The 1000 € are needed to get the album on CD and to cover the shipping costs. The album will come with a 4-colour multipage booklet in a digipack.

Risks and challenges

My time for music production will be very limited during summer 2019. I will have to make most of the things either before or after summer. But there is still enough time left.
