MyMar Entertainment, an award-winning production company, has just completed filming the pilot episode of the series Pray For Us Sinners . Similar in structure to the hit TV show “The Wonder Years” and in the sixties period style of “Mad Men”, Pray For Us Sinners is about life in the early 1960’s as seen through the eyes of 8 year old Anthony Ardito.
The narrator - ‘older’ Anthony (played by Jackie “The Joke Man” Martling) is on camera as a grown man recalling his youth. We hear his wise ass comments and see his most outrageous memories about growing up in this ethnically mixed, blue collar neighborhood in Brooklyn, NY.
The pilot episode of Pray For Us Sinners features the local parochial school, which most of the neighborhood children attend. PFUS (as we also call it) brings up the questions that most kids actually wonder about. We see ‘young’ Anthony and his 2nd grade classmates puzzled by the nun’s examples of sin - including how “not going to church on Sunday is equal to the MORTAL SIN of murder” in the score book that God keeps on all of us.
As Anthony ponders the "teachings" of the Church, his imagination is played out on-screen. When he learns about Purgatory, he envisions a "gigantic waiting room" where people - some centuries old and dressed in costumes of their time- wait to be called into heaven by Gabriel, the Archangel.
The entire story arc of the pilot and future episodes take place in a time when people still had trust and reverence for the government, the Catholic Church, intact family values and a general feeling of safety and security in the world at large. 'Older' Anthony reveals to us in "side notes" what actually happens to the characters and the true events of the world, decades after the 1960’s.
WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP
As dedicated and experienced filmmakers, we produced PFUS on a pretty tight budget. Because of the talent and support of everyone involved – we were able to complete shooting and are now in post-production of the 30 minute pilot. Our ultimate goal - to get Pray For Us Sinners picked up as a series – depends on getting the pilot out there. We plan to enter it as a short in film festivals such as Sundance, promote it on social media sites and market it for distribution as a series on web, cable and television networks. That’s where we need your help! Our Kickstarter goal of $15,000 is the minimum we need for a full blown - in your face - campaign to show people how uniquely creative and funny Pray For Us Sinners is.
Kickstarter is an ALL OR NOTHING fundraising platform. There is NO LIMIT to the amount our project can receive, but if the "GOAL AMOUNT" of $15,000 is NOT met, our project receives ZERO....NOTHING....NADA!!
We absolutely need support from amazing people like you. If you're able to, we'd love to add you to our PFUS CREW and for you to become one of our backers. You can also help by spreading the word: a tweet or shared link on Facebook would mean so much.
You'll enjoy some pretty sweet rewards for your pledges including PFUS Crew T-Shirts, limited edition posters, a DVD made from the highlights and outtakes of the production, credits in the film and on IMDb, costumes and props used in the show, invites to our cast premiere party, tickets to a Jackie Martling comedy show, passes to great film festivals as well as a memorable night in NYC with the Director and guest stars.
Some General Instructions...

- Take a look at the pledge levels and choose the one that best matches your desire to contribute.
- Follow the steps through Amazon to process your pledge. (Your credit card will NOT be charged until the campaign ends. If our campaign fails to meet its $15,000 goal your card will not be charged at all.)
Meet the PFUS Creative Team
Writer/Director: Marino Amoruso has made over 50 films and is the author of 8 books. He has won prestigious awards for his films and his writing. Pray For Us Sinners – is HIS story – as an 8 year old boy living in Brooklyn, NY in 1963 attending Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic school. Marino describes in the pilot episode of PRAY FOR US SINNERS what actually happens if a kid can’t even get through the initial step of making his first confession without pissing off the nun and the priest. Let’s just say making their first communion didn’t turn out too well for Marino or for our character Anthony. Those of us who know Marino all agree that his experience in Catholic School is definitely one of the reasons he is so warped today!
Producer: Myra Weinstein who you may recognize as Myrna, the receptionist in Purgatory. Myra (as Myrna) is just channeling her inner Queens, N.Y. wise-ass chick attitude. Myra has actually had years of experience in the film, TV and media business – on the other side of the camera - producing many MyMar Entertainment films and TV specials.
Associate Producer: Dan Weinstein is the man with the lists of “to-do’s” to make Pray For Us Sinners go smoothly and professionally. He is also great with a camera, a boom and any other production need on the set or in the office.
Jackie “The Joke Man” Martling (from the Howard Stern show) now has his own Sirius XM radio show and popular live comedy shows all across the country. Jackie narrates the pilot episode as the older Anthony, reminiscing about his youth.
Joe Gannascoli (from the cast of The Sopranos) plays Angelo the slick nightclub owner who has been in Purgatory for over a year. Angelo tries everything to bribe his way into Heaven, but he has to wait and wait (....and wait) just like everyone else.
Stephen Hill (who also played Jackie Robinson in the award-winning MyMar Entertainment film Jackie Robinson: My Story), plays Gabriel the Archangel - the “bouncer” in Purgatory.
Joshua Pickel as Young Anthony.
Amanda Dodson as The Nun.
Brendan Amoruso as The Priest.
All of the wonderful people who filmed in Purgatory for the day (which actually was hot as hell because there was no air-conditioning) and the “Classroom Kids” who had to get haircuts, wear ties and kneel for long periods of time. Our apologies to all of them for any nightmares caused by the intimidation of the Nun- Sister Mary Xavier. And to the PFUS parents who are helping to support this pilot episode and hope to see their kids continue on in “showbiz”.
Where We Stand and the Future of PFUS
Filming of the pilot episode was just completed. We will continue promoting Pray For Us Sinners with a sizzle reel, as we finish up in post-production. Our goal is to have a 30 minute pilot finished and ready by October 2013 and then have the opportunity to produce 8 - 10 more episodes of Pray For Us Sinners. Continuing episodes will span events of the 1960’s such as the assassination of JFK, the war in Vietnam, the Woman’s Movement and more. We explore serious subjects as well as the everyday topics that affect Anthony, his family and friends. All story lines will continue to be seen through young Anthony's inquisitive mind – which is mostly focused on the New York Mets and what’s for dinner.
Risks and challenges
RISKS: We honestly do not see any risks to our backers. We have finished filming the pilot (thanks to the actors, crew and production associates that supported us through their time and effort). We will be able to complete post-production (thanks to the hard work of some very talented editors, sound engineers and technical experts). As KICKSTARTER is an ALL or NOTHING campaign, should we not reach our MINIMUM funding goal, we will not be fulfilling our pledges and no one's credit card will be charged. (Even though we would continue to give our heartfelt thanks to the generous support of our backers who tried to help us get there.) The GREATEST risk is the loss of an incredible, innovative series for people of all ages to become a part of 1963 – a time when the world was still innocent and untouched by upcoming events.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
