A weekly comedy series hosted by a lovable cat and his witty owl sidekick with great celebrity guests and co-created with you!
WHAT IS LOVE ME CAT?
Love Me Cat is a talk show, in the format of Conan or The Tonight Show, hosted by a hideous, hairless cat who desperately wants to be loved, and his wisecracking owl sidekick. Love Me Cat and Owly talk to celebrity guests about love, sex, what it’s like to be a human (and a cat) in a lonely society where we must be loved to survive. The use of a puppet allows for more surrealism and also more honesty.
WHO IS LOVE ME CAT?
Love Me Cat (voiced by Eric Kaplan) is a feral cat who grew up in the rough-and-tumble Darwinian struggle around a dumpster and was adopted by a family who made him intelligent through a combination of science, voodoo, and magic. Although his family cared for him like their own, their compassion came with a steep price – they planned to neuter him. With the tacit support of the family's father, Love Me Cat escaped into the world where he is hiding out in a garage in North Hollywood. His only hope is to learn how to be loved, so he can survive and some day reproduce. His path to love is through his YouTube channel.
WHO WE ARE AND WHY WE’RE MAKING LOVE ME CAT
The My Damn Channel team is partnering with our close friend, TV writer and producer Eric Kaplan (The Big Bang Theory) – and his studio Mirari Films to create a new kind of comedy show. Love Me Cat is going to be as funny as the best television comedy writing but will connect with the audience in a real-time way like the best shows of the internet.
While our backgrounds are in traditional television, we at My Damn Channel have spent the last six years building an online studio and distribution network with hit shows like Daily Grace, Wainy Days, and You Suck at Photoshop, in which the web audience is as much a part of the show as our characters.
We are fortunate to now be working with Eric, an Emmy-award winning writer who is a co-executive producer on TV's #1 comedy, The Big Bang Theory, and a long-time writer for such shows as Futurama, Malcolm in the Middle, and Flight of the Conchords. His studio Mirari Films created King Star King, The Drinky Crow Show, Mongo Wrestling Alliance, and Hey It's Fluffy with Gabriel Iglesias.
Eric and My Damn Channel Co-Founder Warren Chao met in college and have spent many breakfasts in Burbank brainstorming a way to bring more original, interactive content directly to fans outside of the usual system of Hollywood gatekeepers and its pressures towards homogenization. Love Me Cat is the first fruit of this collaboration. It's a new approach to talk shows and comedy: fresh, irreverent, funny, poignant, weird, surreal, and deeply immersed in audience participation. The wall between fan and creator has come down, and we invite you to climb over it, hug us, and frolic in the inviting green fields.
Other collaborators on our project are My Damn Channel Founder/CEO Rob Barnett, who started the company after many years as a "traditional broadcast" executive at MTV, VH1 and CBS Radio; Andy Bobrow (one of the writers from Community and a friend of Eric’s from their days writing for Malcolm in The Middle); animator Matt Danner (producer, art director, animator at Spumco, Warner Bros, Disney, Mattel); director Matt Chapman (director for Comedy Central News, Sundance Channel and writer/director of internet supervirals such as Spongebob Squarepants in China); puppet maker Sam Koji Hale; and music composer Parry Gripp. Making a great show takes a village, so we’re always looking for more help and participation.
HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED?
Help us on this Kickstarter, sign up to watch the show and tell your friends about what we’re planning to do together. Love Me Cat will be a regular weekly show. If you contribute to getting it started you will be part of the Co-Creators Club, which means you will participate in a virtual writers room, suggest ideas for future shows and questions for guests, propose guests for the show, and be able to bounce your ideas off and receive feedback from writers from The Big Bang Theory, Community, and The Simpsons. You'll also be able to participate in regular live chats and Google hangouts.
Love Me Cat is also about memorable, hilarious, charismatic puppets. If you contribute, you will get to wear their images emblazoned upon your apparel, stickers, and posters. Will you get plushy dolls? Yes you will. Will you get puppets so you can shoot segments at home? Again the answer is in the affirmative. Will you have a puppet made that looks like you and be able to be on the show with it? At our highest levels, The Council of Grand Puppeteer Viziers, we will even make a puppet of you that you can puppeteer on the show.
Star Wars is a great franchise, but you can't contribute to it. And if you try - say by stuffing a bunch of cash in an envelope and mailing it to Disney, they will not make a puppet of you and put you in their next film. Along this axis (and many others!) LOVE ME CAT IS BETTER THAN STAR WARS!
We think that is also probably true of such franchises as Transformers, The Simpsons, and Naruto: Shipuden. They all are worse than Love Me Cat along this critical put-a-puppet-of-you-in-them axis.
TELL ME MORE! We’ve already created some screen tests of Love Me Cat with some of our close friends and collaborators including Johnny Galecki and Mayim Bialik from The Big Bang Theory, Emma Caulfield from Buffy The Vampire Slayer, and YouTube superstar KevJumba. We've also shot with My Damn Channel's team of videobloggers including Beth Hoyt (BethInShow & MyDamnChannel LIVE), Brian Mann, Chris Donahue, Mark Malkoff (The Bill Murray Show starring Mark Malkoff, Celebrity Sleepovers, The Mark Malkoff Challenge), and Nate Bennett (OkayNate).
We have tasted the rich, ruddy creative sap of Love Me Cat and Owly’s lives and their backstories. With your help we can create a permanent studio set for Love Me Cat, do more shows, invite more guests, and make more puppets. Ultimately, with a community of new fans like you, we hope to build out the Love Me Cat universe and see the adventures of Love Me Cat and his friends out in the real world and in mind-blowing CG environments.
Thank you for supporting Love Me Cat. Please pledge and see some of the cool benefits and puppets you could get. Spread the love by sharing the link with your friends!

Some day your grandchildren – be they human, robot or genetically modified bears – will ask you, "Gran-Gran, where were you when they were raising the initial Kickstarter funds to create the beloved puppet franchise Love Me Cat?" Act today so you can look them in the eye and say, "I was there, robo- or bear-grandson. I was there."
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
As with any new project, the risks and challenges include making sure all our collaborators, puppet makers and audience show up and do everything we need them to do. We also need to make this a great show that touches you. My Damn Channel and Mirari Films - the creators of this project, have many years of experience doing almost everything required to make this project successful. The last and most important piece is you.
Have a question? If the info above doesn't help, you can ask the project creator directly.
