I initially wrote My Cat is Weird in the summer of 2013. That winter my son was born and that day my life changed forever. I was given the gift of my son and lost the life of my wife. Due to complications, she sadly passed 8 hours after meeting her son.
She wanted to see me make this book and that is what I plan on doing. More now then ever it is so important to be able to explain to my son and all other children that is okay to be different. You are great just the way you are.
As of now MCIW is 100% finished. All we need to move forward is to meet our printing minimums. Oh... and ship all of you amazing supporters your copy of the book!
That's an easy one... It's for everyone! MCIW is for children of all ages, little kids, big kids, adult kids, cat people, animal people, people people, all people who like to laugh and learn.
MCIW is about teaching that your great just the way you are, because you are! Everyone is weird in there own way and that's what makes us so special! Being weird is OKAY!
Drew and Chris, two long time friends and total goofballs.
Drew Miele is a full time father, some might call him a fommy. He has always been an artist, even at a young age he was tinkering, drawing or inventing. Creating was always in his blood. After getting his BFA from the University of the Arts, Drew spent the next 14 years creating custom artwork as a tattoo artist. Now because of unforeseen life changes, he raises his amazing son. But the drive to create is still there. This book series is the next chapter in his story.
Chris Fuller is an illustrator, animator, designer, and all-around-swell-guy. He lives in Philadelphia with his Bagle buddy (Beagle/Basset) named Broccoli. Chris has worked on projects for the Fred Rogers Center, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, and Big Idea (Veggietales). Chris hopes to be a consultant on Drew’s sequel smash “My dog is weird”.
More and more the idea of "normal" is changing. By supporting this book you will be helping children learn its okay to be different. Just like our cat, he's loved just the way he is despite being weird. Everyone should be love just the way they are.
Cats are weird and this book gets it. With bold, graphic style and straightforward language, Miele and Fuller give insight into life with a best friend cat. Any kids lucky enough to have a cat will read this book, laugh, and love it. -Kathleen, Librarian, Pittsburgh
Risks and challenges
The risk for this project are very minimal since the illustration and writing of the book are 100% complete. This Kickstarter is to raise the funds to print and distributive the best product possible. If our initial goal is exceeded we would like to put the funds into raising the quality of the final product.
As this is our first project, foreseeable challenges will only result in time estimates. The turnaround should be relatively short (a few months). We will be working closely with printers to make this book amazing, but their could be some back and forth getting everything to our high standards.
We promise to every supporter to update often on all progress with the project. Transparency and communication we believe are essential to this process.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
