WHAT WE'RE DOING
MW Productions is involved with two theatrical productions currently touring the Canadian Fringe Festival circuit. Award-nominated new play, Suicide(s) in Vegas, and outrageously hilarious comedy show, ShLong Form Improv, are in the middle of an epic trans-Canadian journey from Montreal to Vancouver. Our mission: to perform quality shows across the country. We have already completed Fringe Festivals in Montreal , London, Toronto, Hamilton, Saskatoon and Calgary, and are currently performing in Edmonton. The entire project, from our first rehearsals in March to our final shows in September, will last 6 months. We need your help to get us through to the final fringe!
We began this project in September 2010 when we entered the festivals. In October, Canadian playwright Evan Placey was secured to write the script for Suicide(s) in Vegas. In March and April we rehearsed for 8 weeks, and premiered the shows in Seoul, South Korea (where all the actors - one South African and five Americans - were located at the time). We all flew to Colorado in May to take part in the Colorado Improv Festival, and from there we embarked on our grand adventure in two 20-year-old cars without air conditioning.
Over the course of this veritable odyssey, we have toured through 7 Canadian cites to rave reviews and packed houses. Of particular note: In Montreal Suicide(s) in Vegas was nominated for 'BEST ENGLISH PRODUCTION' by the Centaur Theatre, the premiere English Theatre in Montreal. More reviews can be accessed in our "Updates" section.
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
The entire project is quite expensive. We have to pay for gas, car repairs (and there have been a few of those!! ;) , festival entry fees, theater rentals, posters & flyers, copies, hotels, etc. We have made it this far using money from fundraisers in Korea, box office proceeds from festivals, and money that every actor has personally invested in the project. Now, on our final leg of the trip, we are encountering unexpected car difficulties (well beyond our projected estimates, which were themselves quite high), high gas prices, and other unforseen expenses. We have worked very hard to get to this point, and estimate that 4,000 dollars will carry us through to the end of the Vancouver Fringe Festival. Any Kickstarter funds raised would go towards covering these costs.
MANY THANKS FOR SUPPORTING THE ARTS!
