World Dumbination is a fun asymmetric strategy game for 2 to 5 players. The game was inspired by world leaders acting like small children arguing in a sandpit, and that is the idea behind how they are illustrated!
World Dumbination is designed for a lot of interaction between players. So if you like strategy games, political humor and a lot of fun, this game is probably for you!
In World Dumbination you play as the 5 world leaders left after aliens have “rescued” the smart people from our planet. Your aim in the game is to guide your nation to gain the most victory points throughout the game.
The start position, income and First Goal projects are different for each nation. USA and Russia are larger countries that generate more resources. This may look a bit unfair, but it doesn’t take many rounds before everyone has the same strength and resource income.
In the game you combine card actions with movement on a game board. The cards are placed on a Leaderboard that’s like your control unit. You also place a token for the nation you target if needed. Everyone reveals their cards and targets at the same time. The actions are done according to numbers on the cards, which also decides the player order for the rest of the round. The game has a very natural build up. Players start with less expensive and mostly political Level 1 cards. When their First Goal is completed they can draw Level 2 cards that contain more expensive and stronger military actions.
On the Leaderboards there are tracks for your Ego and Popularity, these tracks can remove and block cards placed on the Leaderboard, so make sure you don’t get to unsure of yourself or get too unpopular. To be crazy enough to fire the nuclear bomb you need 8 or more on the Ego track, but having too much Ego can lock your target. Getting very popular earns you more income.
We have put in the possibility to actually be eliminated from the game if you lose all popularity or ego. Losing all your ego is almost impossible, but if you are too aggressive like being the first to use the bomb you can become unpopular very fast!
The game is played in rounds, one round is like this:
Bases on the game board give strength to Units. The further you move a Unit away from a base, the less strength it has. Units can engage in combat with an opponent’s Units or Bases. Removing other’s Bases and Units gives you Victory points (VPs). You also gain VPs by funding project cards or by disarming nuclear bombs in an effort to make world peace!
You win by having the most victory points when the game ends (the round after a player has reached 15 points). Since also your resource income is counted as VPs in the end, it’s a good thing to build stronger bases and conquering new spaces because that also earns you more resources. Resources are used to fund cards and build bases and units.
There are Dumbness cards that are shuffled into the card piles to make sure something stupid will occur. These cards contain weird actions for all players, or some advantages that you can win or buy.
There are some interesting new mechanics in the game, but the main thing in this game is the fun factor! This game is designed for a lot of interaction between players and the often surprising actions from Dumbness cards add a great deal to the silliness. And the more players, the more fun!
More stretch goals will be added if we get closer to the funding goal...
We made this very easy. No expansions or unnecessary choices, just the game and two limited pledges to be in the game! Note that the game is English only.
The symbol for Ego in the game is a hand with one finger showing. This is of course the reason the characters in the background on the card have their pose they have...
This game is of course most fun in real life. But you can play the game on a virtual table here on Tabletopia!
It is a weird world you will get to know when playing World Dumbination! Here is an introduction to the 59 different cards in the game. They are divided into First Goal cards. Green Action cards. Brown action cards. Blue Project cards and Dumbness cards!
Trying to get a Kickstarter game reviewed these days is quite difficult. Trying to get a political Kickstarter game reviewed is nearly impossible, but we managed to get some reviews eventually!
World Dumbination is a game I wish I never was inspired to make. There are millions of people really suffering under some of these leaders. So is this really something we should joke about? I think so! Making fun of these leaders makes them touchable in a way, even if it’s only in a fun little board game. I believe it’s good for us to make fun of things that frighten or frustrates us. And weirdly it makes it all the more fun! During the Cold War, the funniest skits on TV joked about nuclear war starting by accidentally hitting a red button, just like we do in this game! The title World Dumbination is not only in regards to dumb leaders and world domination, but also as a reference to the dumbest thing these leaders can do. And that is of course to start a nuclear war!
Designing World Dumbination wasn't just designing a good functional game. It was creating a whole crazy world inspired by today's international politics. A lot of the stuff was of course funny on its own, but there is a lot of creativity that has been put into incorporating all this into a game.
World Dumbination is the game I like to play with my friends. It has the perfect combination of strategy and fun, with some craziness mixed in as well. It contains the challenging tactics found in war games combined with the silliness and fun of party games. In a way it is the first ever warty game! ;-)
The game has been play-tested countless times during a 1 year period and I still haven't seen two games played that have been alike. I hope you will consider backing my very first Kickstarter project. I’d like for it to be the first of many creative Kickstarter projects to come!
Jan Richard Hansen - Game Designer
Muzak Games is a very small company founded last year by Jan Richard Hansen who has over 20 years experience doing graphic design and illustrations for board games. The 50+ board games he has helped create have sold over 1 million copies!
As a small company we are quite dependent upon word of mouth to reach our audience. We’d appreciate it if you’d spread the word about this campaign if you like what we do and want to see what we can come up with in the future!
Why you should back this game!
- The theme of this game makes it a poor fit for traditional stores. Kickstarter may be the only place for World Dumbination and this may be the only opportunity to buy this game!
- This is a type of game that doesn’t come along that often, but now may be the best time ever to make a game like this!
- This is NOT a Trump game. Even though Trump is in it and inspired to many things in the game, he is just one of the five characters in the game.
- The game has very high replayability since you can play different nations that require different tactics. It also has some unique game mechanisms.
- It is hilarious!
In case anyone wonders about the game price and funding goal. Here is the budget (in NOK) based on reaching the funding goal.
This is 300-355 games sold + 10% extra to fulfilment centers, so in total 330-390 games. That leaves us with 110-170 games to sell after production. This will be direct earnings minus tax. There is no guarantee all games will be sold and this requires some work as well. We cannot put the income we get from these games sold after production into the budget, since we need to pay for the production in advance. The hours of work put in to the game and presentation is between 1000 and 1500 hours. So this is not the way to get rich!
The production prize for just 500 games is pretty high. Producing ten times as many reduces the production price for a game in half. Since this is our first Kickstarter we didn’t budget on selling more games than 500.
With many years’ experience designing games for others, we know things can happen and everything is more expensive that you first think. We see a lot of projects that will be big loss for the creators. By setting the price and funding goal on the level it is, we are sure we don’t under-fund our project. I think we all can agree on that delivering to the backers is the most important part of a Kickstarter project, and shouldn't be any thing you gamble with!
World Dumbination is nearly ready for production. When we reach our funding goal, we’ll start giving everything a final review. There is some artwork that will be replaced while other elements will get a touch up. We are still tweaking a bit on the game, so we need more rounds with play testing before everything is set. After the campaign we will complete the stretch goals and the rule book. We plan to send the game to print early July; production will take about a month. The games will then be shipped to fulfillment centers around the world. If everything goes to plan, you should receive your game in November!
If you live in Australia, Canada, the EU, or the United States, you will not pay any fees beyond shipping. Any shipments to countries outside of those countries will be subject to standard customs charges that are applicable. We don’t know exactly what will happen in UK yet. But if they leave the EU there will probably be taxes and duties added to the shipping cost.
For your own sake we will not ship to Russia and North Korea. We would not recommend to buy this game in Turkey either. And if you live in Venezuela, the lorry load of cash this game cost should probably be used for something more useful... Other countries we will not ship to is: Afghanistan, Brazil, Burma (Myanmar), Cuba, Iran, Kazakhstan, Sudan, Syria.
If you are one of the lucky ones living in Oslo, you will probably be able to pick the game up there avoiding any shipping fees!
Shipping will be charged through the pledge manager after the campaign. We will work to get the games to you as fast and reliably as possible.

Risks and challenges
Being highly experienced within the board game industry, we will use suppliers we know produce the best components. The printing and production process should go very smoothly.
World Dumbination is a satirical game so it is protected by law but we will avoid using any names in the game just to be sure we don’t get letters from angry lawyers.
There are always things we can’t control. Luckily we are very experienced with bad luck, so we will be prepared!
