Update #53 - Grab your PS Vita (EU) digital copies now!

Thanks to everyone who supported us in making the PS Vita port happen!

We’ve already received all the PEGI/EU PS Vita digital codes from PQube and started distributing them on BackerKit. As for ESRB/USA codes, the requirements to request the keys have already been submitted to Sony, so once the codes are sent to us in the next few days, we’ll upload them to BackerKit right away. Be sure to follow our Twitter and Facebook to be informed as soon as the codes have been posted!

1. How will the codes be distributed?

Backers who live in Europe are automatically given PEGI/EU digital codes, while the rest will be getting ESRB/USA digital codes.

2. VERY IMPORTANT: What if we want an alternate region code?

Feel free to e-mail tanaka@ixtl.jp if you want an alternate region code (meaning you want a PEGI/EU code while being a non-EU backer, or an ESRB/USA code while being an EU backer). Please do NOT use the code(s) currently assigned to your BackerKit account so your alternate region code request will be granted.

3. How do I redeem the codes?

You need to have an EU-based PlayStation Network (PSN) account to redeem the PEGI/EU codes, and a US PSN account to redeem the ESRB/USA codes.

4. Can we choose the version of physical copy we’ll be getting?

PS Vita physicals will work regardless of your PS Vita system’s region. However, we’ve recently become aware that there are PS Vita owners who collect one region exclusively for their physical copies, PEGI or ESRB. Unfortunately, it’s not realistic for us to offer a choice of region for physical copies, since there’d be no way for us to guess how many EU backers would want ESRB and vice versa at this point… all of which would lead to additional assembly fees, warehouse costs, and further shipping delays.

June 25 - Final deadline for address changes

We’ve already given the records to the warehouse staff, and BackerKit has now been fully locked down. However, backers can still directly send address change requests to jason@ixtl.jp instead until June 25.

1. Where will the rewards come from?

All rewards will be coming from the USA - we announced this at the very beginning of the campaign by setting the shipping costs for most rewards to USA and Canada being $5-$10, while $10-$20 for other countries.

2. What will be the shipping methods(s) to be used?

TOM will be sending rewards via UPS for backers living in the USA, and via DHL for non-USA backers. The package(s) will be directly sent to the addresses registered in our records.

3. Why are you letting PQube do a public PS Vita release this June?

We're sorry about this unusual situation. As Kickstarter backers, we know you would expect to be the first to have Muv-Luv in your hands. However, the opportunities to promote Muv-Luv PS Vita port in the west will decline in the succeeding months, as Vita physical production ends outside of Japan next year. A lot of the major events will be over by the time we deliver the rewards, and we want to help PQube recoup the significant production costs instead of asking them to delay their release (which could've been bad for the Muv-Luv PS Vita port and KS project all in all). There are many ways in which PQube helped us with this release and we are grateful for everything they have done to help bring Muv-Luv to all the Vita fans out there. To sum it up - the PS Vita port wouldn’t have made it this far without them.

4. Why do we have to wait for the PS Vita to be produced, and wait for months before we get our rewards?

We could have sent a lot of the single item pledges early on, but this method is at least three times more expensive than sending items together due to multiple operations. Every staff member who tried to step up and help with the management ended up with the same conclusion - we cannot afford multiple shipments, so we have no choice but to ship all the rewards together, starting from late July up to August.

5. Do we have to pay for customs taxes?

Yes, the pledges will be declared as merchandise. Only charity-based funding recognized by select organizations are allowed to declare their rewards as gifts. However, we won’t declare $5000 customs value to a $5000 pledge; that’s just absurd. Instead, we will base the declarations on the total value of the physical items you’ll be receiving.

As mentioned in our latest Steam update, we’ve been working on the Muv-Luv Alternative Director’s Cut patch, and we’re quite happy to say we’re about to release it this month!

Additionally, we are releasing a final text update for Muv-Luv Extra and Unlimited which addresses the typos and text errors identified by the community since the official release.

I think I just got a text of DHL confirming dispatch. The only thing I can think of from Portland, OR is this! 😀

Back then, I had no Android phone and I got a Vita. The poor thing waited long enough for this.

I like the option of the download for Vita, I'm the kind of nerd who would not open collectible packages if he can prevent it.

Someday I might get the Android port...

Now, about the taxes, I though it was clear, but it seems is a common mistake, fun thing, in my country the value to declare might be how much I "paid" (mostly because they care about how much money went out of the country)... Lets see what happens, I prepared, years ago, a safe way for this package to arrive.

Finally, I hope we can get the extra digital downloads soon, I mentioned before, would be nice if we can get a patch for some of the content in the Photons. I now this was not offered, but I would be a good thing to do.

Can anyone remind me what the Director's Cut versions are? lol

Seems like the codes not working for the US affected multiple people, based on twitter replies.

Got my NA vita codes...but they don't work. Says they are already redeemed. Wonderful! How can this be fixed?

Looks like North American PS Vita codes just went out: https://twitter.com/muvluvseries/status/1005043709119852545

Yep, mine is in BackerKit. Now all I need is a Vita. 😉

Was actually wondering the same about when the US codes myself. I've been checking my email pretty often for the past few days.

    8. Justin on

Its almost been a week, when are we supposed to get the codes for NA?

      Regarding this:

"4. Can we choose the version of physical copy we’ll be getting?

I understand that EU backers will receive PEGI rated copies. Is that correct? I hope so, because I would prefer that over getting an ESRB copy.

And well, about delivery... I live in the Canary Islands (Spain) and because we don't have VAT like the rest of the EU (we have another tax, but lower) I'm used to custom taxes and abusive "custom fees" from DHL and other companies, even for packages from other EU countries or from mainland Spain.
So this isn't new, but still… if i had known that Pqube would have physical copies outside the KS I wouldn't have backed back then :/

    12. Axeman on

Can't wait for the android port!

    13. Jani Tavi on

@Playcool92 Are you seriously complaining about pay taxes? It's not like the creator can do something about it and shipping these is already making them loose even more money they barely have. If you go and see the project isn't in europe so with just a bit of common sense you can come to conclusion that they are shipping it outside of EU, which means you have to pay taxes. They did mention that it's not going to be backing amount on that value, rather than production costs so it should be fine. Next time do you research and go complain to your own local customs.

    14. FaceEater MK II on

      @Playcool92
Nowhere says it will be shipped from europe, why would you assumed you weren't going to pay taxes?

    15. Freedomer on

DHL is baaad. I'm really disappointed.

EMS (or at least UPS) would be the optimal choice.

    16. Playcool92 on

Also UPS is much better than DHL even in Europe, disappointed you still stuck with DHL for this matter.

    17. Playcool92 on

"5. Do we have to pay for customs taxes?

Yes, the pledges will be declared as merchandise. Only charity-based funding recognized by select organizations are allowed to declare their rewards as gifts. However, we won’t declare $5000 customs value to a $5000 pledge; that’s just absurd. Instead, we will base the declarations on the total value of the physical items you’ll be receiving."

Was already expecting this, this was my first ever backed project, and it took soo long to came to shipping status, and I paid 575€ back then... only now I realize, since I have been bitten in the ass by this before on projects on KS over 150€, customs SUCK! If you live in Europe and it is coming outside it, it sucks alot, I paid just 60€ on customs alone for a pledge of 210€ on KS.

At the time I contacted the creators here for ML, and they did tell me there was no escaping it, but that they would decrease the cost by doing what they said they are doing. In the end I paid so much back then, and even have to pay more now.
That is the reality if you live inside the EU space and something is coming in from outside and costs more than 150€.

Also laws are laws, I dont care about laws as damaging as these, ebay sellers do it all the time, they are not charity, yet they mark items as gift, which makes things alot more simple.
But I bet a company like this wont want to take that risk (is there really any risk), and prefers to leave thousands of backers complaining, because THIS WILL HAPPEN.

Most of us payed at least 150€ or more, and the creators didnt have the insight back then to warn us about that.
So guys, we waited so long for this, and now we have to pay even more for it, that is how we are treated since we live inside EU (dunno about USA customs).

Next time, lets just not put so much money on something.
I have learnt my lesson last year with this BS, I wont be supporting a project on KS again outside of EU, if creator cant guarantee me I wont get hit hard with custom fees.

    18. Cypert Costa on

I'd like to know if you'll declare the production cost of the games or their retail price. In both cases I'd like to know how much is that and if, as someone mentiones in another comment, you'll send us a invoice of the declared price to show in customs. (You really should, because if not the only invoice we have is the backed price)

    19. Pedro Dias on

DHL means some extra 60 euros just to get the package handled by DHL through customs (probably more as this was the value a few years ago). Then I have to pay custom taxes plus 23% vat tax and I'm probably getting an ESRB rated copy of the game much later than the EU version from PQube.

      Just as expected.

It will be cheaper and much faster to buy the Pqube bundle than having to deal with those taxes. Supporting this project was the biggest, most amazing waste of money.

    20. FaceEater MK II on

DHL means lot of trouble, transport expenses (going to the capital city airport) and high risk of damage.
Well, as long as tanaka and jason don't reply the mails I sent them, I would not get the package regardless of how it's shipped.

      Teiren on

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't at least a little annoyed having to wait till August. My tier doesn't include any physical merchandise other than the PS Vita games, and to think that in 10 days I could drive to a local store and buy it right then and there.

    22. Lain on

Way back when, I picked android for the digital port copy, since I was getting a vita physical copy. I haven't really seen much about the android port, so I'm wondering who I should contact to see if I could change that android digital copy to a Vita digital one instead.

On the matter of customs, that's a pretty dick move.

    23. Tjoeb123 on

My question is.....For those of us who have our shipping addresses locked down (and live in the US), I'm wondering just how long it'll be before physical rewards will ship out.

    24. Paul Downs on

Odd, DHL is excellent for me in the UK as sometimes they just deliver the parcel and then invoice me later which is really convenient. Swings and roundabouts I guess.

      Naoki on

Hi, DHL is very bad for me because I will need a heck load of documents and time to get my parcel throught customs. Why you can't use usps or let backers decide?

Seriously? customs charge...? i haven't got the money i had back when i kickstarted this and now you say it.. that's ridiculous

Financial stuff had meant I couldn't afford to pledge for the physical Vita copies before the cutoff ... but with PQube doing the physical release and offering it up for sale, I actually wound up going "around" the Kickstarter to go ahead and preorder them. Looking forward to being able to play Muv-Luv without being at home, even if my preference will remain for the Director's Cut overall. ;)

Still looking forward, with all the patience I can muster, to getting the physical games in-hand - both the Vita version and the big Collector's Box for PC. I know it's been a long, uphill battle to get here ... but it sounds like the end is at least in sight!

Even communicating without any ambiguity isn't something you can do :(

So now i'm betting that Europeans backers will 100% owned

As an European what i'm expecting :
      # 1 => Import taxes 24€ + 20%(item cost + shipping cost)
      # 2 => ESRB version of both games

Conclusion => Never again i will back physical tier KS with you

Will we receive an electronic invoice (for the value of the physical items) to present for the customs?

    30. Missing avatar

      KristinaPotts on

So to confirm, backers getting physical Vita copies who live in Europe will automatically receive PEGI-rated copies, and those who live elsewhere will automatically receive ESRB-rated copies? You say we have no choice, but you're not clear about what we're receiving to begin with.

    31. ID5 on

About the customs fee, the muv-luv team previously stated that they would declare the production value of the goods, is this still the case? A shame the goods can't be send to a location in Europe and then shipped to the backers...

    32. Sasakyo on

Hi. I am really glad for almost everything but perhaps you don't know this :

DHL (in Europe at least) means that we are getting customs fees no matter what + administrative costs because it's not done by the local post.

With local post, we have a chance to avoid customs fee.

I backed 400$ so even with what you said, when I see the value of what I backed, that means I will have at least 80/100$ to pay to DHL... When with the local post office it's not a certainty.

Can you please reconsider the use of DHL for international customers ? or at least really cut the value of what we backed ? Especially for big backers :(

Will the text update be also released in a format compatible with the PC physical release or will that be inbuilt?

    38. Cypert Costa on

I'd like to know which PSVita version will we recieve, I mean, the collection edition RiceDigital is selling or just the two games as in the photos? And I'd like to know too how much it'll be declared for customs (just the games, no extra merchandise).

This part is probably just rant, and maybe you've your reason to do so, but I need to say it. I don't understand why the european backers are recieving and european psvita version sent from USA. Probably it was cheaper to do both version in one place, but still.

    39. Dunan on

Just to add further to my comment below, if Muv Luv isn't searchable on my Australian PSn storefront, I most likely won't be able to redeem a code from the EU either.

    40. Justin on

      Thanks for the update.
I’m pretty confused as to what region my physical copy I’ll be getting. I would prefer ESRB but it seems like I’ll be getting the PEGI version based on the picture, and pqube being based in the Uk and whatnot. But than again they’ll be shipping from the US? Idk I’m pretty confused about that

    41. Chris on

I know I'm in the vocal minority but I'm glad that I'm finally able to read those VNs on the Vita. :)
Only thing I want to criticize is the fact that such an update would have been nice BEFORE PQube sold some copies on that one convention in London or before all those release dates popped up on sites like Amazon or Videogamesplus.ca.

    42. Dunan on

Which region codes do Australians receive by default?

We’re considered a PAL region linked to the EU copies most of the time which means we need EU codes as far as PSN is concerned.
