Passing the Baton

Hello everyone,

Here's a short but important update: The parent company of Muv-Luv series, IXTL, will be carrying on the remaining Kickstarter promises, backer updates, and shipping fulfillment from here onward.

It has been a long journey ー from the very launch of our first ever Kickstarter campaign, up to actually releasing the games on Steam. We at Degica sincerely thank every person who supported the project through thick and thin.

Now that we're passing the baton to IXTL, please rest assured that transition has been going as smoothly as possible. By completing the main trilogy's localization and producing the majority portion of physical rewards, Degica has fulfilled its role for the project and made the whole process easier going forward.

We would like to thank everyone in the community for all your support on this project. IXTL will see to the finish that all rewards are delivered.

Best wishes,

Degica

To be completely honest, I think Degica had done a good job overall. There are delays, but come on, I always expect delays on those kickstarter things, especially if it's complex or if various companies are involved on the project. Let's see how it goes from here with Itxl.

Honestly I don't really care anymore

@Flamingwire I have to agree with you tbh. Considering the scale of the project, I'm pleasantly surprised they have yet to run into any major issues like light's miscomm with Dies Irae, corona blossom's string of misfortune with their shipping or memory dogma's disappearance. That, plus the VNs were translated as promised, and they did a pretty good job there as well.

If there's anything to complain about, it'll the frequency of update and the way this and the next update were released, which caused a fairly serious knee-jerk reaction among backers, and their probably overly ambitious release schedules.

@Jean-Philippe Methot: That's what reminded me of the Unsung Story handover. Like maybe they had to do an official transfer of the KS account between the two, so there would be a final post from Degica prior to the first one from ixtl. /shrug
@FaceEater MK II: After a year-long delay, some pessimism is warranted, but I think you're going a little far. Everything in your post is supposition—that backers will get stiffed on rewards, that Avex doesn't care, that fulfillment won't go well, etc. Update 46 says only three physical items aren't done yet: the Codex book (due to a problem with the printer), the collector's box media, and the Vita.
I will admit to some dissatisfaction that we don't have a gold master for PC yet, considering the BETA went out in August, so they've had five months to get bug reports (and every bug I've reported on the Discord has been a duplicate, so they've probably got a pretty solid bug list at this point). And I feel for Vita backers… they've really gotten the short end of the stick between the time spent on the translation and developers spending time on the director's cut for PC, then Vita, then Alt for PC, then Vita.

I don't understand where anyone's paranoia come from on this update... not only has the KS run into 0 major problems, this update explicitly mentions that ixtl is taking back their baby, and that ixtl will see to it that ALL rewards will get delivered.

I think it's pretty clear that ixtl isn't light., Sekai Project, or any other multitude of companies have have completely bungled their (some) of their projects up to this point.

Glad to see Muv Luv is nearing completion and in a far better state than other massive VN KS have been at this point in their development. Hopefully the side titles and the rewards see completion and finally get shipped before Summer 2018.

    6. Jean-Philippe Methot on

@Chris Adamson Yes, I just saw. Not sure if it was a good idea to do this update in two parts, with everyone panicking after the first and then getting reassured in the second.

    7. FaceEater MK II on

      @Chris Adamson
The fact SOME rewards exist, it doesn't means ALL backers would get ALL rewards.
Seeing how Avex just want to get over with it, do you think they would give a shit if some rewards aren't shipped, get lost/damaged or some backers needs a goddamit invoice?

    8. Chris Adamson on

@Jean-Philippe Methot: Update 46 just went up, and says the Muv-Luv localization team moved over to ixtl as part of the transition. So that's good news. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/muvluv/muv-luv-a-pretty-sweet-visual-novel-series/posts/2078476

I think the most worrying thing is that, as far as I know, IXTL has no experience working with foreigners. I don't exactly expect better customer service, or at least more than what we got. For the physical reward and vita version though, it remains to be seen what happens with those. I do want my translated paper codex, gunpla and dakimakura.

Reminder for the "we'll never get our physical rewards" crowd: pictures of some of the boxed physical rewards, sitting in the Tokyo Otaku Mode warehouse, were shown in update #41. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/muvluv/muv-luv-a-pretty-sweet-visual-novel-series/posts/1914280

At least wait for ixtl's first post before panicking, 'kay?

Waiting for release of the physical Vita forever and it seems for nothing. Really regret supporting this project.

I was wondering what happened to my physical rewards. Now I am nervous.

    13. FaceEater MK II on

There goes my physical rewards. Should have picked the digital only tier.
Any chance of a KimiNozo KS with the ML team is also gone.
Thanks Degica for everything, we know it's not your fault, it's all Avex's.

    14. Daniel Baxendale on

Honestly there's so many reasons why this might have happened it's hard to speculate on whether it's a good or bad thing. What is bad though is this update really tells us nothing about where the physical rewards are. I might just try to pursue a refund for my physical rewards at this point.

    15. Chris Adamson on

@Dunan: Yeah, sorry if I wasn't clear; if anything the current situation is far better than Unsung Story because they've actually produced the games (for PC, anyways) and I believe we saw a picture of some of the physical rewards in boxes, so it's a matter of shipping that stuff, plus the Vita and Android versions. Also, I personally wasn't super impressed by Degica when I went to their booth at AX this year, so ixtl taking over is potentially an improvement.

    16. Dunan on

I don’t think it’s fair to compare the Unsung Story to this as I am a backer of both. Unsung Story was a disaster in which playdek sold off the rights and had clearly produced nothing.

Over here we have the games on pc done but being handed over to another company, the parent company no less before the physicals are done here. What does it mean? I’m not sure to be honest.

      @Chris Adamson
like i said not every project i know of ;-) - I am just a little bit worried here, because of the few updates we got in the past, and like some others already said (and i always forget, my shame) are PSVita ports. - They really should say whats going on...

    18. Maria Almanza on

I have yet to receive my VITA games... honestly.
First I was told I would get VITA digital codes along with my physical vita games... Then It was changed to Steam Codes that didn't work. Now we probably won't even get the physical vita games... my goodness...

Update 2 of 2 better come quick before speculations run wild!!

    20. Chris Adamson on

Chill, gang. @muvluvseries on Twitter says this announcement is (1 of 2). Presumably a post from ixtl is next.

Also, @NightWolf21k, Unsung Story did a handoff like this earlier this year, to a new owner that's actually working on developing the game. So it's not always bad news.

And those of us who are waiting for them to finish and send us the PS Vita version? Does this affect us in some delay?

    22. NightWolf21k on

Ok, this is bad news :-/
nearly every project i know of, that switched the team behind, was shortly abandoned and dead after that...

So at least i got the digital rewards, because this sounds like physical rewards wont be delivered (if they even exist)... believe me, i would be happy to be wrong...
