Switching Gears to PS Vita release

Now that the major goal of the Kickstarter has been completed, we can now resume PS Vita development of the trilogy. We apologize again for the severe delays, and like we said before, we'll fully commit to them and will get most of the items in our checklist done before the year ends.

And here’s a message from the team:

"To all the Kickstarter backers who signed on to this project, thank you so much for your support and patience while waiting for this localization.

It’s thanks to all of YOU that this project was made possible! It’s been a long journey, and we are pleased to finally be able to bring you the official English release of Muv-Luv Alternative! The team has worked really hard for over a year to ensure that we give you the most fantastic experience for this amazing story that we possibly can, and we really hope you enjoy it!

We hope that you all have fun with this backer-exclusive BETA release! Please give us your feedback, and if you find any issues or bugs, do let us know at our community forums."

Cheers,

@RG I very much share this sentiment as well. For me the appeal of a physical release is exactly that, having the definitive product on a disc/cartridge/whatever so that hypothetically speaking, the end of times appears or Steam just decides to pull the plug from their servers you still have that physical copy. This is why I dislike the practice of recent Vita games that release broken and then shortly after release a patch that fixes all those problems. Why not put that on the cartridge to begin with? Maybe I'm getting old but I really do not like this practice one bit.

      @The Muv-Luv Team
Thanks for making a statement, if you're taking suggestions I would suggest delaying the physical release until the patch is made. Or at least polling backers regarding that. Personally part of the appeal is having one "single source of truth" for the product and not having to carry around an extra disc, thumb drive, or what have you, that I created myself and patch the physical copy every time I re-install it in the future. I don't mind waiting or delaying the physical release, if it means that release is a de-facto definitive version. Granted, that doesn't mean others feel the same, which is why I suggest a poll to gauge how the audience feels.

      Thanks for your time.

      @Playcool92
Personally, I like to have all the original contents available. No matter how minimal or trivial they might be, missing contents will still be missing contents. If this was a localization of the console version, then it couldn't be helped but that's not the case here.

But I understand that you don't mind it and that's perfect fine. I and some others simply don't feel the same.

      @The Muv-Luv Team
      Thanks for the clarification.

    6. Playcool92 on August 25

I think you guys are working yourself too much about a patch that only adds something to the love "scenes", I have both the first release and all ages PS3 jap., we are getting all the gore here, and the all ages that replaced les tentcls and Sumika's was a fine replacement IMO, and in no way it lessens the overall experience, so for those waiting for the patch, know that you are only waiting for the lewd stuff to get added.

    7. Sergio garcia on August 24

Quick question regarding the vita ports, for the people that chose vita digital delivery for their codes, are we getting the codes first and then the physical carts later? Or you cant do that.

Posting to also show I care the patch is in the works, thanks for the response, although it took some effort to find. Might be worth sending out an update or making a post to explain all this in more depth.

    9. kyrt on August 24

good to hear that a patch is coming eventually. I like many others were concerned because of a previous comment I don't mind it taking a while that is quite expected (considering the Vita is likely going unsupported very soon).

Great to hear that it's definitely happening which solves all the major concerns I originally had. If you don't mind me poking and prodding a bit, was it Age's choice to keep the mosaic censorship for the western release or were the original assets lost to time? Having a complete uncensor patch later down the road would be pretty amazing if at all possible.

    12. Andreas on August 24

Glad to hear you are making the patch. It's definitely a must for me, and I won't buy the game until it's out.
Does suck to hear it will take so long for it to come out, but it's at least nice to know that it is coming. Hopefully it won't take TOO long. * Crosses fingers*

@Muv Luv Team Thanks for the response, was definitely a little concerned initially but happy to hear well see a patch

    14. The Muv-Luv Team Creator on August 24

@Kroh - It will be done, absolutely! It is part of the campaign promises after all. Just not right away.
Yes, we have the choice to implement the patch after PS Vita ports/before working on the side stories, but we have to decide as a team (ixtl, Degica, âge) and post an official update regarding this/and possibly ask what the backers think should be prioritized. There's just no chance of it being implemented before PS Vita ports.

@Muv Luv Team, So are you willing to confirm that there WILL be a directors/restoration patch for Alternative?I don't mind if it's 9 months down the road after the release after Alternative (actually I do mind, it shouldn't take 9 months to restore two scenes, Extra/Unlimited had a combined total of 11 scenes that needed to be restored which should've taken much longer due to the sheer content difference) but the important part is that it is on the "Absolutely happening" list rather than the "Yeah if we get the time for it we'll do it, if we don't have the time it's not happening though" list. Just a confirmation that it WILL be happening is probably the most important bit of information, WHEN it's happening can always be revealed at a later date.

@The Muv Luv Team Thanks for the response! That clears things up, and I appreciate that the team is still listening to people's feedback and concerns. In this case, even if the content isn't significant, the principle is important to a lot of people in the community. I personally wouldn't have gone to the extent of chargebacks or anything of the sort over it, but seeing it done right, as promised, is important to me. The title deserves it, and I think we all want to see another player in this market that does things well and properly, since that has not been a frequent or reliable thing in the past. Looking forward to reading Alternative for the first time and hearing from you guys in the next update!

      Hello everyone,

With regards to the Director's Cut patch and original voice acting for MLA -- we haven't forgotten about them!

We just need some time as there are many things moving at the moment like the physical rewards,PS Vita ports, and side stories. Something is coming up this October, and we need to print the collector's box, artbook and codex next month on top of the Steam release of Muv-Luv Alternative.

We will clarify more details on the next update as well as how the items in our checklist are going to be prioritized. So far, PS Vita takes priority -- the size of the content for the patch isn't the problem (Muv-Luv Extra/Unlimited scenes were also quite few), but the amount of time it may possibly take.

We also thought it wouldn't take long for Muv-Luv Extra/Unlimited, but took almost 4 months instead. It may be faster to implement now because we have done it already for the first two parts, but we need to double check it first as a team before promising how early would it be.

We are very sorry for worrying everyone and again, thank you for your patience. This is our first ever visual novel Kickstarter, and it would really be amazing to see this project through the end with all promises upheld -- no matter how much the BETA have been slowing us down.

Hey guys, remember when they say they wanted to release KimiNozo in english too?
If they lied now, they could lie with that game too; think about it before opening your wallets.

    21. Edward T. on August 24

Minimal or no, those would still be contents that are present in the original Japanese version, so not adding them simply mean that the team is cutting corners and making up convenient excuses for it. You think you're backers are stupid or ignorant? If those contents are so minimal, then work on them first, as they shouldn't take that much time, right? Get things done in proper order! I do not under any circumstances accept the idea of having any content left out because staffs want to cut corners.

    22. Missing avatar

      Ryan Ohlson on August 24

If it really is the case that there won't be a patch for Alternative, I'm definitely disappointed. A big part of why I chose to back the project is because we were promised a release that was faithful to the original and that any cut content would be added back in in some way or another. It doesn't matter, as far as I'm concerned, how minimal that content may be, it was a campaign promise and part of what many of us pledged for. I understand that designing and implementing a patch is a not unsubstantial amount of work, but compared to the size of this project as a whole, it's a small task.

The question you should be asking yourselves is not if it would be worth implementing a patch, but if it would be worth saving that relatively small amount of money and work by breaking a campaign promise and likely upsetting a significant number of backers and tainting your reputation with them in the future. This campaign became the largest ever for a visual novel not solely because of the titles reputation, but because of the way it was handled, the promises that were made regarding it's release, and the value it offered. In most regards, that all has been maintained to this point, delays are expected and everyone wants the best product possible. Don't tarnish that by going back on a promise that, relative to the scale of the project is trivial.

I also hope that we get a patch for the content in photonflowers and photonmelodies that was cut from the original versions. I won't pass judgement myself until all is said and done. I've been otherwise happy with how this project has been handled, and I'd like to see Degica and the other parties involved maintain the reputation they've began to build in the western VN market as one of the companies that does things right.

    23. Kenneth Cheung on August 24

Keep in mind this is BETA release (that name seems to have more than one meaning). This means that there may be bugs and a later more polished version would be coming out. I too would like to see a directer's cut but I do not expect it to come out so soon. It is just not a priority now. Remember how long it took to get a directer's patch for Extra/Unlimited? The creators are still working on things. It is better for them to release a good product than a rushed bad product.

Why do you think it's now okay to decide not to release this content after having said that you would? I also am not impressed at all.

    25. kyrt on August 23

Was about to ask for a time frame for the 18+ version, then I read the comments... Are you kidding? You literally won't make one?

I'd like confirmation from the Developers that a "Directors cut" or "restoration" patch will not be made for Alternative before I begin a chargeback dispute for the pledge I made on kickstarter and Backerkit addons on the grounds of false advertising (it's also a classic example of bait and switch). Consumer laws will allow an aggrieved party to sue for damages if they are the victim of a bait and switch. Consumer laws will hold this fraudulent business liable for false advertising. I backed the kickstarter on the grounds that both releases would be released "Uncensored" with the content that was removed in order to create an "All-ages" release added back in. I'm not interested in supporting a product that censors and removes content for political reasons. I was okay with the Extra/unlimited Cut keeping in mosaics because while it is censorship, it doesn't directly affect the work itself and could arguably be seen as the way the creators wanted it to be experienced. Whereas the removal of several scenes simply to create a wider distribution circle is absolutely not how it was originally intended to be experienced.
It was said that it'd be a "Western release done right, that would add back all the removed content to create a unique version that doesn't even exist in Japan". If Alternative isn't having the content that was removed added back in, I'm not supporting it. I don't care if it's 10 minutes of cut content, it's 10 minutes of content that was stated to be there and now isn't. I don't mind waiting for a directors patch, but that's only if it's confirmed that there WILL be a patch to restore the cut scenes & cg's.

"will get most of the items in our checklist done before the year ends"

So I take that as the physical copies of the Vita games won't be until next year?

    27. Andreas on August 23

Was about to ask for a timeframe for the 18+ version, then I read the comments... Are you kidding? You literally won't make one?

I am so glad I didn't back more than a few dollars, as that would have made me demand a refund had I actually pledged for the game. I was angry with how long it took to make the patch for the first game, but this is just absurd. You guys are aware this is an eroge, right? Regardless of how "minimal" you think the content is, it's still a part of the original game. The "importance" of the content doesn't matter. It's a part of the original experience, and people want to play that game the way it was intended, not the way you guys think it should be.

I really hope you'll rethink this decision. Don't expect any support from me until you do.

How can I have Bwavo Reader and the human bwains back?

Also the choices between English and Japanese for the in-game text doesn't seems to work, credits during prologue are in English regardless of what is chosen. (maybe the original voices are also linked to this choice and that's why they aren't available)
