WOW. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR PLEDGING! We will post a secret streaming link for all backers tonight so you can hear the album you just helped launch into the world. How's that for instant gratification?!
We have a full 2 HOURS left, so here's a stretch goal - if we can hit $20k, all backers will get a collection of 10 previously unreleased live recordings from the past 10 years!
This will help us promote the new album and two tours as best as we possibly can. Thank you for pledging and sharing!
Here's us back then:
Now Mutts is 10 years old.
This is us now, with our drummer Ian:
In the past decade we've met a lot of incredible people out on tour, playing hundreds of shows with very talented musicians, comedians, dancers, and fire-twirlers.
Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this challenging and soul-nourishing decade!
We just recorded our 5th full-length album (10th release overall), and we need your help to put it out.
The new album, Stuck Together, is the best thing we've done. The songs are fueled by the most turbulent 5-year period in my life. Many tears, a lot of joy, heaps of disappointment, tons of hard work, and a lot of milestones and memories went into this record. And it was all captured for posterity by Rick Fritz from Audiotree, in bad ass sounding high fidelity.
We're booking our 10-Year Anniversary Tour to build the hype for the album this Summer.
With your help, Stuck Together will come out in early October, and then we'll do our record release tour.
As backers, you will have your digital copies in hand within a couple weeks of funding this campaign, and the physical copies by September.
What are you paying for:
We spent all the money we have to make this album.
We need funds to print the vinyl and CDs, and then promote the tour dates and album release.
We've learned that promotion is equally important to the album itself. We finally have an established publicist with a proven track record on our team. He'll help us get press about the album and all of the tour dates. $10k of the amount raised is to hire him for the album cycle.
Anything above printing the albums and hiring the publicist goes towards advertising - general ads for the album, and also regional ads for the tour dates.
To sum it all up:
The basic goal is releasing an album we're proud of, and putting on fun shows for our friends, family, and fans.
The bigger picture, and the reason we need your help, is to ensure that:
- our 10th year will include some sold-out tour dates,
- our 10th release will reach more music lovers,
- and our 1st decade will close with a big bang that'll propel us through the next 10 years!
Risks and challenges
As far as the recording, the risks and challenges are already taken care of - we've recorded the album, and we took our time to make sure it's as good as it can possibly be. We took 4 of the tracks from Stick Together EP (with Chris Pagnani on drums) and remixed them, even re-recorded a few parts, and then remastered it along with the new tracks (with Ian Tsan on drums) to make sure it all sounds consistent.
So the real challenge of this project is booking these tour dates and making sure they're at good venues, with other bands who care about stuff. In the past 10 years we have self-booked most of our tour dates, and often end up playing venues that don't promote shows, with bands who were added to the bill too late to help get people there. The result is we walk away from a gig 10 hours away from home with $30 - not enough to get to the next city, much less help 3 grown-ups sustain a living. Our plan to overcome this is to start early (we're already working on this), and to leverage our past decade of experience playing in these cities to book at venues who help promote shows locally, and these are typically the venues that local writers will cover, which makes our publicist's job easier. And we are working to help find the other bands ourselves instead of leaving this up to the venue exclusively.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
