My name is Saskia. I am a singer. I am a songwriter. I am also a workaholic. Let me tell you about my current project!
I have always sung, but I haven't always sung professionally. In spring this year I decided to quit my job and go into music full time.
You can make a living from music, but I am not *there* yet! (which is why I am crowfunding here). But it won't be long. I have been studying the music industry, and I have pulled together the business aspect of being a musician faster than anyone else I know, and have already reached number 1 in the reverbnation folk charts for Bristol (see my website: www.saskiagm.com). Within 5 months of starting out I have a small theatre tour booked in, to large audiences in the east of England (October), and now, I am going full steam into the studio to get this album together, to make a big deal of launching it, and to take it on tour next year.
Over the last nine years I have written dozens of songs. 14 of which I have selected to put together in a debut album 'Gentle Heart'. They talk about love, mystery, death, inquiry and change, drawn from my life's experiences and woven together in poetry & song. I have budgeted for the minimum needed to make the album, 10 tracks and £2,500, but if one of you is inclined to help me out with recording the full 14 tracks choose the £450 option (yes please!) to support that particular aspect.
I have secured a fantastic launch venue (Sub rooms ball room, Stroud) to celebrate my debut album; to perform it live to hundreds of people, and to launch my UK tour from. I am going to travel all over the UK next year, and even a little ditty in Europe in the late summer, so, I better have an album to tour with!
There is more to my story beneath this picture so do scroll all the way down...in the meantime feel free to browse the rewards on your right :)
The Fun, Is In The Details...
Everyone who backs me will be invited to my exclusive backer reward "informal evening" in Stroud, Glos, where we will all have a chance to perform something (cabaret style) over tea, cake & general merrymaking.
I will also do a daily 'tweet out' of thanks to everyone who backs me - if you want to remain anonymous you will have to let me know!
Everyone who backs me above £20 will get a free ticket to the show that is nearest them on my tour!
What To Do Next - Kickstarter Explained
I hope I have made it rewarding enough to entice you to back me, there should be something interesting for everyone, so pick a reward you like, on the right hand side of this page, and go for it!
Look out for the "1 O.A.K." rewards, that stands for 'One Of A Kind,' and those rewards enable you to sponsor particular aspects of this process, and be named and thanked for doing so. Only one person can sponsor each of these.
If you prefer to give an amorphous amount of money to pile into all aspects of the project choose the 'GENERAL SPONSOR' option at £200, £550, or £1000, and add in the amount you like. All money will be put directly into the project, to make this as big, as professional, and as exciting as possible. Then sit back, and watch my project unfold into 2016, and wait for your goodies to arrive in the post, or in person! I particularly invite you to be generous and look at the higher tiers. And, if you think of a reward that you would like that isn't already on there, let me know and maybe I can do that too :)
If my fundraising goal of £2,500 isn't reached I won't get any of the pledged money. No money will leave anybody's accounts until the full goal is reached. I really can't do this without you!
The video above was shot in about 20 minutes in Stroud, Glos. And in it you can see the glorious changeable weather typical of informal English conversation. Ending up with it chucking it down on me!
I also wrote and recorded the song you can hear over the video 'Wash It Away' which was recently played on BBC Gloucestershire (on Johnny Coppin's acoustic show if you're into BBC Iplayer it should still be up!), and is my latest piece of songwriting.

From there you can connect to my social media, watch my youtube videos or get in touch personally. I respond to every single message on every platform, and I look forward to hearing from you.
Risks and challenges
The only 'risk' is not reaching the fundraising goal! I will not otherwise be able to do any of this - recording, touring, and progressing on the musical path towards...er...more music :)
I have done extensive costing research, and found the best deals around. I am also ready with material, musicians, a studio and all the mechanics needed to get the album pressed, the merch made, and I am strengthening my hand muscles for all the signing I am about to do!
The costs, if you are interested, are roughly as follows:
Backer reward fulfillments, including postage - £250
Cd's, pressed and packaged and a minimum of merch - £900
Recording, session musicians, mixing and mastering - £1350
The total is my fundraising goal!
I am ready to go, and I want you to join in :)Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
