A cross pollination of rock n roll, funk, reggae, and ragtime to tell a tale centered on Dreams, Love, God, and "The Spaces in Between"
Hey Everyone! My name is Dan Griffith, and thanks so much for checking out my Kick Starter page!
Before I begin, I'd like to point out that my $140, $250, $500, and $1000 rewards CAN ALL BE DONATED TO CHILDREN'S HOSPITALS AND the $140 and $250 rewards CAN ALSO BE DONATED TO NURSING or RETIREMENT HOMES. I've played literally thousands of classes, parties and events for young children (0-6 years old) and have found that working with children is one of my callings. I would be honored to do interactive performances at hospitals donated by you. I've also performed at old folks homes before, and they loved it, some even getting up and dancing! If possible, you can come along for the incredible experience. I'll take pictures or videos if you're not there, so you can see the joy your donation brought to people who could really use it.
In addition, I'll kick this Kick Starter campaign off by donating the first performance myself and for every five performances donated, I will donate another.
All of my rewards can also be used as gifts including writing a poem for someone, writing and recording a song for someone (here's a link of a song I wrote for my grandfather), and guitar lessons.
And of course there's nothing wrong with buying any of the rewards for yourself to enjoy!
Now about my project!
"The Spaces in Between" is my debut album under the name "Musical Monk." www.musicalmonk.com
The full length album will have 12 songs ranging from dirty funk to rock n roll, folk rock, ska/bluegrass, rag time, Americana, and even one ballad. The subject matter primarily focuses on (1)the adventures, ups and downs, sacrifices and rewards of an artistic lifestyle, (2) my hopelessly romantic escapades and (3) my spiritual search.
The music in my featured video is from the first stages of recording at The Bunker Studio, but here are a few tracks from my home studio demo, which include vocals. I can't wait to hear how the pro-studio versions come out!
Monk is a solo effort in regards to vision and writing, but several
incredible musicians are helping me turn that vision into a reality
Ryan Marks - Bass
Sueyoung Yoo - Piano
Sean Dixon - Drums
Tim Peck - Organ, Clav, keyboard
Andrew Zapanta & Sarah Wood - Back Up Vocals
We started recording in December 2011 at The Bunker Studio in Brooklyn NY, a state of the art, first class studio. Co-owner and world-class engineer John Davis is engineering the album. So far, we've recorded Drums, Organ, Funky Clav, Bass, and Rhythm Guitar.
Lets take a look at the budget for the album.
-Rehearsal costs - $550
-So far, we've spent $1650 dollars on recording.
-We have 4.5 more days of recording to do which will be $2120 (lead and back up vocals, lead guitar, grand piano, percussion, sound samples, over dubs).
-Mixing - $2150
-Mastering - $400-600
-Album Artwork - $200
-Making 500 Copies - $850
That's $2200 spent as of now with at least $5,600 left to finish the album.
This doesn't include any promotion for the album. I'd like to put at least $500 into promotion on websites such as jambase.com and jambands.com and magazines such as Relix. It'd also be nice to be able to pay all the musicians what their worth.
That's about $6000 minimum. If we raise $3000 on Kick Starter then I'll be able to release the album by April '12. Everything extra raised on top of that will be put towards promotion, management and adding crucial components to my live show (like stage lights!) Again, ANYTHING extra raised will be put pack into taking my career to the next level.
Thank you once again for your support and generosity.
