We are Mushpa y Mensa. We create art, not just crafts.
Mushpa y Mensa is a small team with really big dreams. We make jewelry designed from a force beyond our own minds, magical plush-pets made out of recycled plastic bottle felt, organic cotton t-shirts with fantastical designs, and whatever else our maniacal minds come up with!
We have been traveling throughout New York City's flea markets and street fairs with our organic t-shirts, plush pets, bow-ties, pillows, earrings, screwdrivers, scissors, tape, chairs, table, tools and a fafillion more things, all stuffed in 2 suitcases and a plethora of bags!
We have hauled it all through NYC's boroughs using the not-so-user-friendly NYC subway system and yes, it has been a great adventure to say the very least. We would like to use that energy to create and connect with people, rather than spend it dragging our magical wares around and building brute arm-strength.
We here at Mushpa y Mensa love the idea of "making everything from scratch." We continually question from what, where, and how things are made; more specifically how can we Do-It-Ourselves. We want the best for ourselves (mind/body/soul) and for our world. We keep records of our projects and ideas in our blog, La Casa de la Mushpa y la Mensa. Check it out!
We hope you see that we love what we are doing (making a living selling our art), and get inspired to take small leaps of faith in your lives as well! Remember, small moments become larger movements.
Mushpa y Mensa are blessed to be the proud owners of an 11 foot long step-van named Maya, a blank canvas inside and out. With your help, we will transform our beast into a beauty!
Together, we will create Mushpa y Mensa on wheels. You may ask, Why would we want to do that? So we may travel easily through the streets of our beloved New York City's boroughs and eventually the country, bringing our sustainable creations of functional art to the people of this world.
Now we need you! How can you help?
Simply by becoming a benefactor of Mushpa y Mensa's Magical Motor Machine Makeover Kickstarter Project!!!
Help us get some eco paint! How about some screws, lights or even a sheet of plywood!? Feeling generous? How about throwing down some loot for Maya's 100% eco-friendly marmoleum flooring?!?
Any amount you can spare to make dreams come true is appreciated. Not only will we be forever grateful, but we will send you fantabulous thank you gifts from us to you! Win/Win.
Risks and challenges
Mushpa y Mensa, acknowledge the fact that Maya is a carbon emitting combustion machine. Yes folks, this is a big challenge. We do think about our carbon footprint and will do our best to MINIMIZE IN EVERY ASPECT our effect on Mother Earth.
When we can convert this truck to an all-electric vehicle, trust us we will! Maybe next Kickstarter... :]
The fact of the matter is that this is the most affordable way to do this for us at this moment in time. In NYC, a retail space is incredibly expensive, and a huge investment in itself. For us, a truck is a creative way to overcome this obstacle in our path.
HERE ARE SOME OTHER PERKS!!!
1. We can travel and SHARE OUR ART WITH EVERYONE, EVERYWHERE.
We will never stay in one city, in one place. Going from town to town will take us on incredible adventures and all the amazing things we learn, we will then share with you in our lovely blog! Who knows what can come of our travels, but don't you think it would be cool to say you contributed in this great adventure?
2. Maya will be completely remodeled with totally ECO-CONSCIOUS MATERIALS.
On our website, you can browse through the list of eco-materials we will be using. During construction, we will support small businesses even if it cost a bit more. What goes around comes around!
3. We will also try to add the most ENERGY EFFICIENT EQUIPMENT.
We are hoping to raise enough funds to install SOLAR PANEL STRIPS to power all the lights and any other energy needs Maya may have!
This is your chance to be part of the making Mushpa y Mensa's dream. We promise you won't be disappointed.
