Hello again Kickstarter, we’re back with something a little different!
We’d like to introduce you to our newest creation, Hamsterdam! The brawling hamster-fu beat-em up made for Nintendo Switch, mobile devices, PC/Mac, and PS Vita!
Let the mob take over Hamsterdam? Not in this life! Your town is beset by the vile Vermin Gang and the scourge of MarloTonic™, just as the evil Marlo planned. The one thing he didn’t plan on? A Hamster-fu master with cheek pouches stuffed full of J U S T I C E.
The once peaceful town of Hamsterdam is in danger! The vile chinchilla Marlo and his Vermin Gang are wreaking havoc and terrorizing the town. Enter our hamster hero, Pimm, who must harness his mightiest martial arts powers and kick tail through district after district, on a heart-pounding journey to take down the Vermin Gang, save his grandfather, and restore peace to Hamsterdam.
Hamsterdam. The once beautiful town Pimm calls home, now a degenerate den of crime and corruption.
This is the sauce of all the trouble in Hamsterdam. Using Marlo Tonic to control the population, the nefarious Marlo is sitting pretty at the top of the food chain, but he’s about to be cut down to size when the fur starts to fly!
Hamsterdam is a game where rhythm & precision meets some good old fashioned button mashing. With classic arcade brawling mechanics and tap and swipe martial arts combos, the power of Hamster-fu is in your paws!
Beating down the faceless goons of the Vermin Gang is one thing, but sooner or later Pimm will come toe to toe with fiendish boss battles that will really test your skills.
Every street-smart superhero needs a ride that shows the bad guys they mean business. Take Pimm for a ride on his scooter, and maybe once Hamsterdam is safe, you’ll be riding off into the sunset.

We built Hamsterdam with the intuitive gesture controls of the Nintendo Switch and the touch controls of other mobile devices in mind. It is also playable with a keyboard and mouse on PC/Mac. Unleash your inner Hamster-fu master and swing, tap, or swipe your way to victory!
Mobile/Play It Anywhere
We always aim to push the boundaries and create new experiences for players with different genres, art styles, and mechanics. Not only that, we like to push ourselves, get out of our comfort zone, and take creative risks. Hamsterdam is our first project for the Nintendo Switch, and we are really excited by what the Joy-con offers. We believe that the Nintendo Switch adds another dimension to the brawler genre, and we aim to explore that with Hamsterdam.
The funding from Kickstarter would help us tremendously with additional art, sound design, and music. Perhaps more importantly for us is getting your help in testing different aspects of the game. We still need help tuning pacing, progression, and making sure all the combat and onboarding elements are easy to understand and play. For that, your support would be invaluable.
We started the project from a game jam idea - it would be interesting if we could take the classic beat’em up, brawler experiences (such as Streets of Rage, Fist of the North Star, Super Punch-Out!!, and Arkham Asylum) that we loved, and marry them with the controls of the Nintendo Switch and mobile devices, so that people can use gestures to bring action to life.
To craft the vision of Hamsterdam, we are continually inspired by 80’s kung-fu movies, the ground-breaking perspectives of The Wire, the satirical depiction of Amsterdam in the famed Pulp Fiction scene, and beautiful visuals and humor of Ratatouille.

We’ve been working on this project while most of our Muse teammates have continued work on Guns of Icarus, and the project has finally come far enough for us to bring it out of the shadows and onto Kickstarter!
As a token of our appreciation for backing us on Hamsterdam, we’ve also created a special item in Guns of Icarus just for you. If the Kickstarter campaign is successful, you’ll be receiving a redemption key that you can use in-game to receive this special item.
Risks and challenges
The major risk for a Kickstarter project is not delivering a game after a successful campaign. We are a self-funded indie game studio, and this means that we’ve gotten this far with the project with our own funds from the proceeds of the games we made. By the start of the Kickstarter campaign, we already have stable playable prototypes for the Nintendo Switch, iOS and Android devices, as well as PCs and Macs. The prototype already include all the core combat mechanics and levels that we planned for initial release. With the help of our Kickstarter backers, we want to do a lot more testing to polish progression and pacing as well as work through any remaining ease-of-play challenges that we may face. As a team, we at Muse Games have also had a track record delivering on Kickstarter campaigns, releasing 2 games and an expansion off of successful Kickstarter campaigns.
Another risk is not delivering on the physical rewards after the completion of a Kickstarter campaign. To mitigate this, we’ve scouted out the vendors that we would be using for the rewards, and for most items, we’ve already made small batches or samples to test the quality of the items.
