Do you like point & click games?
Wold you like to use your brain to solve the weirdest mysteries you've ever heard of?
Do you think zombies have always been discriminated against and they have the right to be the protagonists of the story, for once?
Really? You're weird. I like you!
If that's the case, you might consider funding this game. You'll even become a character in it, with your own lines of dialogue.
The game will be available on various digital stores, Itch.io and Gamejolt included, where it'll be completely DRM-free. But if you wish to support this project, I'd be grateful if you could
"Zombie Society - Dead Detective" is something more than just another classic point and click adventure!
A demo of the game, which consists of the first case, is already available on the web for free and has been received with great enthusiasm by thousands of players
Despite its retro style, "Zombie Society - Dead Detective" has a modern interface and some unique gameplay mechanics.
Collect clues, combine them...
... interrogate suspects and witnesses...
... and interpret the clues you've found to come to your own deductions (but use your brain, or you could be wrong).
If you get stuck, you can always ask for a hint that will hopefully set you on the right track without spoiling the solution
No pixel hunting!
Thanks to the magnifying glass, you can always check all the interactive items of the area you're exploring
Zombies have conquered the planet. They even established their own society... Which, all in all, is just as dumb and nonsensical as ours.
And crime is as rampant as ever, but worry not: private detective Margh and his partner, Ghvnn, are on the case!
And what a collection of weird cases this is!
Someone's stealing other zombies' heads and limbs, but why? A wild, living brain's been spotted just outside of town... Where is he coming from? And what is the Zombino Family up to?
Margh will have his hands full, but you can help him out.
Just don't go accusing the wrong undead guys, okay?
I'll just say it straight up: there are no physical rewards. No gadgets, no posters, no lousy t-shirts you'd be too ashamed to wear in public anyway.
For various reasons, but mainly because producing and shipping high quality materials is costly, and I'd rather spend that money to improve the game itself.
I hope you'll agree with me!
That said, what I offer you instead is a chance to...
Become a member of Zombie Society!
You can become a zombie (and you don't even have to die)
I want to include you inside my game, as actual characters of the story.
When the campaign will be over and, hopefully, successful (or even before that) I'll ask you to send me your picture and answer a few questions.
If you decide to back this game, I will draw you inside it regardless of the campaign's success.
So, pledge away!
Depending on your pledge, there are various tiers:
For more info about these and the others rewards, look at the dedicated list on the right side of the page!
But hurry: most of these rewards are limited, mainly because of storytelling reasons.
The early zombie gets the brain!
There's a saying in Zombie Society, that goes like this: "don't put the cart before the enslaved brain".
I intend to listen to this wise advice, and that means I won't talk about the stretch goals until the main one will be reached.
I will tell you, however, that I intend to use any exceeding amount of money for the localization of the text (English and Italian are a given, but I'd want to extend it to German, French and Spanish at the very least) and maybe even for some professional voice acting - for the few living brains in the game, at least.
Do you have any other suggestion? Let me know with your comments!
My name is Francesco Dell'Anna Muia.
I'm in no way a "famous" developer, but I've been making web games for more than ten years, mostly on Newgrounds - where I go by the nickname of "Muja".
I'm a writer, game designer, programmer and occasionally an artist/animator.
And I'm the guy who wants to tell you this weird, funny tale.
Would you lend me your ears and eyes?
I'll give them back to you once I'm done, I promise.
This might look like a one-man effort, but that's far from the truth.
This game wouldn't be possible without the contribution of these talented guys!
Let me be clear about this: the game will be made regardless of the kickstarter campaign's success.
Its format, however, might change.
The main reason I decided to launch a Kickstarter campaign was to get the funds to work full time on a stand-alone, full-lenght version of the game, and to hire a pixel artist to draw better backgrounds.
If the campaign will fail, I'll probably have to release the game in episodic format. Each episode will consist of a self-contained case to solve, and I'll publish them as free games for the web, trying to earn some money from the occasional sponsor.
If the campaign succeeds, however, I could completely dedicate myself to the game and the overall quality would certainly benefit from it.
I'm asking for your help to make the game as good as I want it to be, as YOU want it to be.
Help me introduce these weird, funny zombies to the world!
Risks and challenges
Making games is a risky business. You never know what could go wrong.
A new rare but persistent bug might arise. I might die and become a zombie for real - that would certainly slow me down.
One thing is for sure, though: this game *will* be made.
The hardest part of the coding has already been done in the demo, it's just a matter of creating new content. That's also why I'm asking for a relatively small sum of money.
I intend to release it around September 2017, but I will certainly finish faster with your help.
Considering there are no physical rewards, I won't be slowed down by the process of creating and shipping decent gadgets and stuff, either.
