Where are we at now and what is the schedule?

We are due to show our very first playable prototype of some of the game features at the EGX games expo in Birmingham this week (21-24 September). The prototype will showcase the first alpha build of our card mini game as well as the first look at the equipment screen.

After EGX, it's back to work. What we are aiming at this quarter, is polishing the event editor and implementing it in-game, so that early next year we can start testing the event system and the card mini game together. We're also hoping to finish equipping groups, levelling and moving on the map as well as world generation with settlement models and enemies. So lots of work ahead!

We hope to have the game feature complete and ready for early access in summer 2018. 

We run a monthly newsletter, where we try to keep our fans up to date with progress and changes as they happen.

Those who had a chance to play Thea: The Awakening, probably remember that all characters were one-colour sketches. For Thea 2: The Shattering, we have decided to keep the illustration style, but go full colour.

We also plan to have as many custom-made 3D models as possible and aim to make the 3D stuff reflect their 2D illustration. 

 

Reviewers often mentioned they liked the illustrations that accompany all in-game events. So we'll have more of those in Thea 2!

 

Work on the soundtrack has been already mostly completed by our friends at murmur sound workshop, there are 33 tracks in total - 12 for challenges, 11 for map view, 9 for settlement view and 1 main menu track.

The world is broken, beast and men alike rise and fight for dominion. A new threat lurks in the depths of the earth and seeks to devour your divine power.Thea is a vast land ruled by many gods and besieged by the forces of order and turmoil forever at odds with one another.  

Several centuries passed since the onset of the Long Night - an era of darkness and fear. Brave souls, driven by divine hand and the sheer will to survive, eventually defeated the avatars of the dark and restored the sacred cosmic tree to life.

And yet peace seems ever elusive. Tales of giants rising and falling and of battles fought by the divine, circulate the folk tales, but none can truly say why the shattering came, only that when it did, it destroyed the world that once was, and remade it anew. 

Fractured, isolated and forever besieged by foes seeking to live and to kill, mankind strives to survive once more... 

The Cosmic Tree Pantheon is currently made out of nine deities, although stories from the old world speak of others, lost, killed or simply forgotten. 

Centered around the axis mundi - the cosmic tree that stands guard against chaos, the pantheon is charged with protecting their flock, but above all, protecting balance.

Each week of the campaign, we'll introduce new gods to you and continue with updates post-kickstarter.

Now, £40,000 is obviously not enough to finance an entire project, we have the full funds secured and in use already. We are fully self-funded and intend to stay that way. While we have the money to finish the game our budget is still very tight and we'd like to expand, get extra features in and get more awesome assets.  

With that in mind, we're mainly looking to add 3D models (especially some custom made for our creatures), more character and event art and extra budget for marketing costs to help us spread the word! And if we do reach our goal (and continue to stretch goals), we have a wishlist of features and content that we'd like to add as well.  

Some may say that we do not have enough gameplay playable for KS and they may be right. But, we've proven we can finish a high-quality game in prompt time with Thea 1 and our philosophy has always been that we'll only do a crowdfunding campaign at a point in development where the money will have a real impact, but it will not impede our progress and delay our release date.

Risks and challenges

We are self-funded and determined to complete Thea 2: The Shattering like we did with its predecessor. With that in mind, we are not financially bound and will continue the development until our game is finished.

The only area that we can foresee a possibility, albeit a small one, of changes is the release date, which can shift. We will endeavor to avoid such delays and minimize them if they do occur.

Of course, one cannot fully account for life's tragedies, unforeseen disasters etc. We can only promise that we will do everything within our power to complete the task and to honour all pledges as quickly as possible.
