Hello, my name is Simon Boses. My job is teaching science and engineering to 4th through 8th grade. My passion is sculpting in ceramic. For some time now I’ve been working on an idea for a series, inspired by designer toys, called TerraNauts. Terra – as in ‘from the ground or earth’ and Nauts as in ‘explorers, like astronauts’ …TerraNauts.
I’ve always loved the idea of taking art off the pedestal and putting it in into the hands of the audience. TerraNauts are meant to be handled and set up in a variety of situations. I’m enamored with the concept of collaborating with my collectors as they create new stories and situations with the art I’ve made.
The Nauts and Bolts
Each TerraNaut will be a handmade, hand-glazed, unique figure. No molds will be used in the process of making them. Each will have the unique aspects that come with a hand-made object. The average height of a TerraNaut is 3-5 Inches depending on the size of it’s ears and or horns. These images are my prototype TerraNauts and are a good example of what you should expect as a reward.
I’m also offering two display stages. They are meant to be small worlds for the TerraNauts to inhabit. This is another area I’m hoping to expand eventually offering a variety of different environments. If you'd like one of these add-ons simply add the extra money to your pledge. When the campaign is complete I will send you an email confirming your order.
Small Stage(accommodates 1 TerraNaut): Add $60
Large Stage(accommodates 2-3 TerraNauts): Add $90
Stretch Goals and Rewards
One of my very favorite aspects of KickStarter Campaigns are the Stretch Rewards. When we reach $2000 each person that pledges to this Kickstarter at the $35 level or above will also receive a MicroNaut (see image below). I’m hoping to get the chance to offer other stretch rewards in the form of small items that can be used with the figures and the stages. As the campaign progresses I’ll update this information.
More Stretch Rewards...
A fast moving campaign is a blessing, but one down side is that I wasn't able to get finished versions of everything. As a result you'll have to use some imagination here since I've included works in progress to illustrate the different rewards.
$4000 Three new add-ons available at $7 each
Accessory package of your choice: Boneyard, Sowing Seeds or Campfire Fun
When we reach the $4000 goal, accessory sets will become available. Simply add $7 (or $14 or $21) to your pledge. When the campaign concludes, you'll receive a survey to specify which set(s) you would like.
$5000 Backers at the $70 level or above will get a free mini-stage added to their order. (extra $10 to add it for the lower levels)
$6000 Backers at the $35 level and above will receive another MicroNaut (total of two).
$7000 Backers at the $35 level and above choose one accessory package for free.
Here are the stretch rewards earned so far...

Thanks so much for your support! Simon Boses
The big question…
When will you be receiving your TerraNauts?
My intention is to work full time on this project this summer. I expect to complete all of the figures by the end of August and ship in September. However, since each piece will be hand made by me, an over-funded project may push out that deadline. I've built in some cushion so to try to avoid that situation.
I’m an artist working in ceramics making figurative sculpture. I have a history of making pieces that encourage and even require (often to the dismay of galleries) the audience to touch and interact with my work. For me art is what happens between the objects that I make and the audience. If you'd like to learn more about me as an artist here are a couple of links to online interviews and features.

Like a lot of you I’m a fan of kickstarter. I’ve backed a hand full of projects and was really happy with the outcomes. Now I’m launching my own campaign and hoping you'll help me make my new series a reality.

Risks and challenges
As stated above the only foreseeable obstacle would be an over-funded project. Should that happen my timetable may be pushed out a bit further. Ive done my best to compensate for that by adding a bit of cushion to my delivery date. If a backer needed their piece for a specific date (wedding/birthday present, for example) I'd be happy to work with them to make sure they received it in time.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
