36 HOURS LEFT and We're At 87%!!! Find out who's offering to CAMEO on the next MST3K!

Up and at 'em, everyone!

We've got just 38 HOURS LEFT in our Final Countdown, which makes today the last full day of our Kickstarter to #BringBackMST3K.

When we're this close to the end, every hour matters... so let's use 'em wisely!

But I've gotta tell you, I'm feeling great this morning. I've been so excited to see your responses after yesterday's big announcements about all of the talented folks who have offered to jump in and help with the next season of Mystery Science Theater 3000. And I still haven't told you about the amazing performers who have agreed to join us for cameos... but we'll get to that in a second.

First, let's take a look at where things stand:

With just over 36 hours to go, our combined total has passed $4.77 million, which means we're now almost 87% of the way to our final goal!

That's right: we've now raised OVER $375,000 IN ADD-ON REWARDSThat's a lot of MIMOBOTS®, COFFEE TABLE BOOKS, CALENDARS and ART PRINTS!

And when you add that to what we've raised here on Kickstarter, it looks like this:

See that? We just passed $4.4MM on Kickstarter alone, and we're moving faster than ever.

Plus, we've still got just over 36 hours to reach the end, so who knows... maybe we can even set a new record!

In fact, just in case we do reach $5.5MM and unlock all twelve episodes before our Final Countdown ends, I've got one last "stretch goal" in mind… but I'll tell you more about that later. Because right now, I've got something really exciting to tell you.

Who Might Appear for Cameos in the New Episodes?

Yesterday, I introduced you to some of the incredible writers and brilliant artists who have offered to help out and join us "behind the camera" for the next season of MST3K.

Today – to kick off the last 36 hours of our Kickstarter – I wanna share the names of a few more super-talented folks I've been talking to, who are interested in helping us out in front of the camera!

Now, listen: there's no way we can 100% guarantee this stuff, because these nice folks are all really busy… but they're also really big fans of MST3K, and they've each said that if we can fit into their schedules, they'd love to do a cameo in one of our new episodes!

So, here are a few performers who are interested in appearing on MST3K next season:

  • JACK BLACK, the brilliant comic actor and musician, star of everything from the Kung Fu Panda films to the wonderful School of Rock… though to some people, of course, he's better known as one-half of Tenacious D. So, I don't wanna tell you anything about what I'm planning for his character… but I think it would be a lot of fun to have him perform a song.
  • JOEL MCHALE, who I first knew as the hilariously dry host of The Soup, and who has been expanding his acting career into television (as the star of Community) and film (the Ted movies). I met Joel at a friend's wedding last year, and we became fast friends. He's a really nice guy, so even though he's in demand for big-time revivals like The X-Files, he says he's up for joining us too!
  • BILL HADER, the incredible changeling/actor/impressionist who has appeared in everything from SNL to Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs to Trainwreck. I’ve always been amazed by Bill's talents, and was finally introduced to him backstage at SNL by a mutual friend.
  • NEIL PATRICK HARRIS is a true renaissance man whose career spans film, TV, the broadway stage and the internet, where he appeared opposite our own Felicia Day in Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. Funny enough, though, I actually met Neil through mutual friends at the Los Angeles Magic History Conference, where we geeked out on magic together. Also, I'm honored to point out that Neil has always been a MSTie. In fact, he was included in first MST documentary – This is MST3K – all the way back in his Doogie Howser days!
  • JERRY SEINFELD, my long time friend, and of course, one of our most brilliant stand-up comedians. Jerry was also the co-creator of Seinfeld, and the creator and host of my favorite concept for a talk show, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. You know, I’ve known this guy for over thirty years. I actually remember him from when he only had one car.

Incredible, right?

We'd be lucky to have any one of these comedians stop in for a cameo… and if everything works out, our next season will have cameos from all of them!

Finally, there's one other person who I've been talking to about a cameo, and it sounds like he's up for it… but before I tell you his name, there's something else I wanna mention.

I forgot to put this in my updates last week, but over the summer, when we weren't sure when -- or if – we'd be able to bring back MST3K, Crow and Servo went on a few auditions. Last week, one of those tapes "leaked":

First Star Wars, and now MST3K? I guess Tom and Crow are really working the revival circuit these days.

Anyway, speaking of Star Wars, you might remember a few weeks ago – not long after we launched our Kickstarter campaign – that this happened:

And you know, once it did, I had to follow up on it.

I was able to connect with Mark through someone we both know, and when we talked last week, I asked if he would be up for doing a cameo on Mystery Science Theater 3000.

Guess what, everyone?

MARK HAMILL is up for doing a cameo on Mystery Science Theater 3000!

And you know, when we finally spoke, and Mark told he me was a MSTie from way back, I was simply knocked out. Like a lot of other people in my generation, seeing Star Wars in theaters back in 1977 was a profound experience. For me, it was the equivalent of seeing the Stones play. But since then, I've also admired Mark's incredible work as a voice actor, especially as the Joker in the Batman animated series and video games. Mark just gives these unbelievable performances in all of his roles, so I'm excited to find a really fun, unexpected role for him on MST.

Now, those are just some of the amazing and talented performers who have offered to stop into the show. But you know, as much as I love all of these guys, let's face it: it's a little bit male-centric.

I've gotta tell you: that wasn't intentional. I guess I just have a harder time meeting women these days? But listen, if any female celebrities are reading this, and happen to be fans of MST3K, please let me know! And if your names happen to be Tina Fey, Lily Tomlin or Amy (Poehler and Schumer) – a few of my current comedy heroes – call me! We're bringing back MST3K and would love for you to do a cameo!

Now, I don't wanna promise anything just yet, because I haven't started talking to most of these guys about the characters we'd create for them, but I'm just gonna put this out there... if we can get Bobby Lopez to write a new duet for Felicia Day and Neil Patrick Harris?

I mean, come on: how cool would that be?

And you know what? If we can get to a FULL TWELVE EPISODES, I bet we could make it happen. We've got less than $750,000 to go, and a little more than 36 hours to get there, so let's make it all count, MSTies. I know you can do this.

Just remember:

Cheers and Thanks,

Crow T. Robot, here. Today's going to be a real hamdinger of a day: we've got work left to do, and we're going to need all hands on deck. We've got just over 36 hours to reach our final goal, so that we can shoot a whole season of MST3K next year. If we don't, I might have to go back to auditioning for robot parts again. I just can't do it anymore! So, help out your fellow robot this one last time?

Just post one (or all) of these messages to Twitter & Facebook right now:

Nope, sorry. Joel just has problems meeting women...
It's a classic problem most of us guys have like tying our shoes and cooking beyond the microwave.

Very glad to be here :) Way to go Joel and MSTie community!

Thanks for realizing that the new MST3K should aspire to a bit more diversity than the old one! I would argue it's not that you have a hard time meeting women; it's that women have a hard time getting the same recognition in comedy and writing that men do. I'm a huge fan of all the ones you cited, but the world of female comedy is so much bigger than that! Here's a list of some awesome ladies you might want to try to bump into next time, for writing or cameos: Wanda Sykes, Kate McKinnon, Melissa McCarthy, Constance Wu, Mindy Kaling, Kristen Schaal, Portia de Rossi, Leslie Jones, Ellie Kemper, Rachel Bloom... I could keep going but you get the gist. I can't wait for the new episodes, and hope to see even more diversity in future seasons to come!!

    5. Thomas O'Neill on December 11, 2015

I'm going out on a limb here & saying that, based on Kickstarter pledges coming in + the add-ons money, the campaign will reach its $5.5m goal some time during tonight's double feature, just before the countdown telethon starts. Fingers crossed!!!

    6. Thomas O'Neill on December 11, 2015

Approximately 1:40pm EST: Number of backers crossed 40,000. So amazing.

    9. Sarah Messmer on December 11, 2015

@Luis Martofel Yeah, the streams are all I've seen Spoony do lately too. I'm just glad he's still doing SOMETHING. I was kinda worried about him for a while; he seemed pretty down and I remember him mentioning that he struggled with depression.

Literally crying, I love this show so much. So glad I got a chance to back it. Only hours to go and we're so close to the 5.5 mil goal line that it hurts. Only 500k to go, with the 300k from the other sources Joel mentioned in an earlier post. We can do 500k more, right? Keep circulating the URL!

    11. MadJo on December 11, 2015

19 hours left to somehow find $800K in someone's couch. QUICK, look between all the cushions.

    12. Wendell on December 11, 2015

@Noah, That sounds about right. There's a chart one front page(you need to scroll down) that shows all the stuff you'll get for the different levels.

Somebody's got to ask Mark Hamill if he saw the episode where they do Laserblast.

Calling out to my fellow MSTies! I need help making sure I have everything correct about my pledge! I pledged at the 200$ level which means I will get everything listed in there and everything in all the tiers below 200$, plus the coffee mug and 1 mimobot USB right? If I want to get 2 mimobots and the Making of Book I will only be able to get those via purchasing them as add on rewards correct? And those classic MST3K episode downloads, MST Music Album, and Rifftrax short were added to my pledge automatically when we reached certain stretch goals right?

    14. Nigel McNaughton on December 11, 2015

Any update on the 'earliest MST3k' tease?

    15. Troy Wood on December 11, 2015

I'm on-board with all these celebrity guest stars, as long as they don’t mind getting into goofy costumes to play nearly unrecognizable characters on the hexfield view screen.

I could totally see Jack Black putting on a bald cap and fat suit, then singing a song... as Tor Johnson. (They haven't done "Night of the Ghouls" yet, Ed Wood's semi-sequel to "Bride of the Monster." And you're not properly blooded as a MST3K host without enduring at least one Ed Wood movie.)

    16. Missing avatar

Chris Martin on December 11, 2015

I'll also suggest Maria Bamford as a special guest. She's very funny, just the right amount of weird, and she happens to do great voices. And Patton could probably convince her to do it if she has any doubts. Also, I'm sure Aisha Tyler would love to be a guest.

    17. James Tighe
      on December 11, 2015

would love to get "John Stewart" in there somewhere, bonus if Colbert is in the same episode.

I know this will never happen but we can dream

    18. James Tighe
      on December 11, 2015

With his Joker Laugh he would be a good replacement for "Pearls" old role.

But It would be kinda cool to have the Guests be part of the Audience with the robots and host.

    19. John on December 11, 2015

*Also, the talent you guys are getting now, I mean come ON. It's incredible! It's nerd heaven!

    20. John on December 11, 2015

I don't have much in the way of money, but I created a Kickstarter account just to pitch in what I could, because dammit the world needs more MST, and it's shaping up to be better than I ever imagined! Thank you and congratulations to Joel as well as everyone else who is making this revival possible!

Any chance we will see Jerry Seinfeld's blood with radiator fluid?

Also... MARK HAMILL CAMEO!!! *squees like a little school girl*

    26. bygrinstow on December 10, 2015

Yeah, I'm not sure *what* Seinfeld would do... he's not exactly a master character actor. But the others can drop into an MST3K-appropriate character (ala Torog, Mr. B Natural, et. al.), I'm sure. Yeah, you know it's them, but it's not NPH as Barny from HIMYM, y'know?

And if it gets execs looking at the show, and they then want to foot the bill for a season or seventeen thereafter, so be it!

    27. Melissa
      on December 10, 2015

@Joel You can start counting down in $ to go now. It's getting real!

    28. Louella Alleluia on December 10, 2015

Well, that wasn't exactly my point. We all agree that no matter what costume you put on Jerry Seinfeld, we still know that it's Jerry Seinfeld, right? Don't mind me, I think I'm just a little overwhelmed.

    29. Charlie Rengel on December 10, 2015

This just gets better and better. If you don't make 5.5 million at the end of Friday, it's a travesty.

    30. bygrinstow on December 10, 2015

We all agree that *cameos* don't mean people appearing as themselves, right?

I Love Lucy had Harpo Marx and George Reeves appearing as themselves. Not Arthur Marx or George Reeves playing "I Love Lucy" characters...

    31. Louella Alleluia on December 10, 2015

Hey, that's cool, and I'm optimistic, but it is starting to feel like the last seasons of, "I Love Lucy." Though, those celebrity cameos probably made more sense, however superfluous.

    32. Barbara Ruhmann
      on December 10, 2015

Ooooooh, myyyy! Your latest update (#20) has blown my mind totally! Love your list of potential cameos. Really must try for Stephen Colbert and Nathan Fillion! Ladywise, Jessica Williams and Samantha Bee! And although it would probably be totally impossible, the incomparable Carol Burnett! Can't wait for the filming to begin! Woohoo!

@Sarah Messmer, I think Spoony would be head over heels to be on MST3K, I mean he built Burton because he was that big of a fan. But, he really isn't releasing too much content online other than huge game streams anymore. No more scripted content, and hell, he even stopped doing WrestleWrestle. Unless I'm missing something...

    36. Jim Jenkins on December 10, 2015

It brings me great joy to know the show is coming back. And I'm also proud to say I went to one of the MST3K conventions and had a tremendous blast! Thrilled and delighted that Joel was on Sirius' NEWS AND NOTES today and that the money keeps flying in. What a delight to have this to look forward to in 2016! Thank you, Joel and company! We welcome you back to our orbit!

    37. bygrinstow on December 10, 2015

Still, it would be pretty cool if they could get Cameo to make a cameo on the new show.
      Word up.

    38. bygrinstow on December 10, 2015

Sheesh! They had big time celebrities in the original run! I mean, c'mon — LEONARD MALTIN WAS IN THE SHOW!

    39. Matthew on December 10, 2015

Thanks for all the hard work, blood, sweat, and tears you've put into making this happen. I can not wait to see what you have in store for us in this next season, and many more to come!

    40. Matthew on December 10, 2015

does everything have to be about gender these days?

    41. Irish Moxie on December 10, 2015

I'm excited by all the potential contributors to the show! I'm glad Joel mentioned the male-centric group that may be on tap, but I hope there is also an effort to broaden the diversity a bit more too. More women and more people of color would be a great place to start!

    42. J. Nathan Couch on December 10, 2015

I can't believe people can be so down on something before it's even been made. Bailing out on a project because Jack Black's going to make a brief appearance is asinine. I have full faith that win Joel in charge all this will fit fine. Dude was acting like this is a Michael Bay adaptation. I also upped my pledge because of his post.

    43. Sarah Messmer on December 10, 2015

Might I suggest searching web content creators as candidates for writing/cameos? You know the kids today with their youtubes and their podcasts and their fanny packs and their electric cars and their twenty-three skidoos, etc.
Some web celebs I can think of off the top of my head:
      Noah Antwiller (The Spoony Experiment)
Louis Lovhaug (Atop the Fourth Wall) (Louis and Noah have made robot pals!)
Brad Jones (The Cinema Snob, Stoned Gremlin productions)
Jerrica Benton (aka Diamanda Hagan, Hagan Reviews) (Brad and Jerrica have lots of bad movie experience!)

    44. Richard Fellner on December 10, 2015

These potential guests--all of them--are simply amazing! High-calibre and hilarious. Surely any networks/platforms worth their salt would just need to take one look at these names and be convinced that MST3K would be a winner. I mean, if Jerry Seinfeld likes MST3K, then that right there should be enough to justify how funny (and popular) this show is.

      Well done @Joel!

    45. Jesus and Christina Ortiz on December 10, 2015

It breaks a MSTie's heart to read tweets like Bill's and Frank's. Joel, your old crew has been keeping the MST3K name alive for years too. It is why a lot of people still care and some are even giving you money. But, Joel, it's your show. It's your Kickstarter. You would have to be a fool not to be impressed by your new crew-- It's incredible. I just am waiting to see the old crew sound happy, too.

I can't wait to see that bar hit 12 episodes. You are working so hard.

    46. Pika the Marauding Missingno on December 10, 2015

Just tossing something out real quick to the peeps who are worried about the celeb cameos. I had the same initial reaction, but then it was just like... wait. MST3K has *always* had guest characters who show up in a host seg or two, act wacky, then exit stage left. They were just all played by Mike before he was the host, and various other BBI peeps after Mike took over the host spot. If this sort of thing is what the celeb cameos shake out to, then it already fits with the established formula of the show, and it's got a ton of potential to be pretty damn hilarious.

    47. Brian McCabe on December 10, 2015

I have to say this has been one of the best run Kickstarters I have seen. Joel's done an amazing job keeping interest and adding in new stuff to cut down on the middle of the run slowdown most Kickstarters get trapped in. I hope we make it to 12 episodes. Calgon take me away!

    48. Jason McGrody on December 10, 2015

@Samuel Snay - If the guest cameos are nothing more than "Look at me! I'm a celebrity!" then the show will deserve the negative comments it gets.

However, if it's done with the person playing some silly, usually movie related, part. It'll be great.

    49. Jennifer Stine on December 10, 2015

As soon as the cat heard her beloved robot friends she started watching the computer instead of TV. I squeezed mum dry for this, but she knows how much the show has meant to me and my riffing buddies. Bad movies are one of my vices. I miss the bad movie channel. Now I have the hard choice of picking out the add on.

I completely love the current proposed slate of guests, but since you mentioned the lack of estrogen in the lineup, I'd like to humbly point out there's a bit of a melanin deficiency as well. Might want to hit up some Hilarious Nerds Of Color to see if they're interested? Donald Glover comes immediately to mind. Orlando Jones? Jessica Williams? Aisha Tyler? Kumail Nanjiani (already buddies w/Jonah, I believe)? Whaddya think, Sirs?

PS - White dudes though they may be, also enthusiastically seconding the suggestions below to see if there's any chance you can get Weird Al, Chris Hardwick, and Stephen Colbert! Any of them would be AMAZING!
