About this project
We are Sacramento Shakespeare Festival, and we are producing a new, original version of King Arthur, as if written by William Shakespeare himself. We are offering this in William Land Park at the beautiful William A. Carroll Amphitheater in June and July as part of our 2012 season.
We have this script, actors, a stage, but we still need costumes and props!
Everything from Guinevere's glorious robes, to Lancelot's romantic armor, to Arthur's shining Excalibur. From the fields of Camelot, to Morgan's dark chambers, to the court of the King. From the physical comedy of Arthur's fool, to the music of the peasants, to the final battle with Mordred. You can help us with all the fixin's by donating to our Kickstarter campaign. With your help, we can bring this bold and beautiful story to life!
Every donation large or small is greatly appreciated as we try to raise at least $4,000 within the next 30 days.
We would like to thank you in advance for your generous support!
All donations will go directly into the costume and prop budget for the premier of this original production of "King Arthur" as if written by William Shakespeare himself.
Rewards may be picked up during any performance of King Arthur during the festival.
The Sacramento Shakespeare Festival is produced by the Department of Theatre Arts at Sacramento City College. We believe that Shakespeare should be available and accessible to everyone who lives in the Sacramento Area. We strive to share Shakespeare with the community through our many programs that are listed below.
SHAKESPEARE IN THE PARK:
Every summer for the past 27 years, we have presented two fully staged Shakespeare productions in the William A. Carroll Amphitheater in William Land Park. Shakespeare in the Park runs from July 1 through July 31, generally Thursdays through Sundays after each play has opened. This season will feature King Arthur and also The Comedy of Errors running in repertoire.
We also produce two abridged Shakespeare plays designed to tour schools, community centers, senior centers, the streets of Old Sacramento, and anywhere else we are able to perform! Shakespeare Lite performs from mid-May through July, whenever there is demand. This summer will include productions of Romeo and Juliet (A bilingual version with Spanish) and Two Gentlemen of Verona.
HIGH SCHOOL INTERNSHIP PROGRAM:
Each year, we offer a program of training and internship for ten to fifteen high school students from the Sacramento region. High school students report in June, take various classes and workshops, and work on crew for Shakespeare in the Park throughout the season until early August.
STAGED READINGS SERIES:
A year-round series of staged readings, introducing audiences to Shakespeare’s less produced plays. These reading take place from September through May, and include a 30-Hour Shakespeare Comedy Reading Marathon ending on the evening of a Second Saturday, and webcast from art galleries in the midtown area.
We also offer custom-designed workshops for schools and community centers that can teach any aspect of Shakespeare’s works and world to any group that is interested. Topics include: Acting Shakespeare, Understanding the Text, Original Practices, and more.
