In 2006 I launch a blog! It was something new at this time! Since I design I started collecting images, and from this source, I wanted to create a web site to have them at the same place, and so on share them with others!
The second idea behind it was that, as a "print" designer, I wanted to see the real things! So I start asking creatives to do a "graphic exchange": I send them my printed creations, they send me there! I have boxes and boxes of business cards, letterhead, brochure, and cards!
Since its launch in 2006, I post 2 to 3 times a week, from the past 11 years! And I always did that by myself, between my clients and personal design projects!
I want my blog to be a source of inspiration without distraction: I publish all the images that inspire me from a designer or a studio. It could be 5 images or 100!
That's why more than 90,000 images have been featured, with more than 1500 posts! In its best moments, 10K people visit it a day!
But more important, I know it is a big source of inspiration and an usfull tool for studios and design teachers around the globe!
But I never include commercial in it, just very few paid post related to something I will post for free anyway!
I always tried to found another way to make some money out of it to cover the costs and the time I dedicate to the project: ebooks, and my personal products I sell on my online shop mrcup-shop.com
I even create a magazine, Walter, but that's an other story!
I am more a print designer, I am passionate about the printing process, inks, papers and combination of all this. The blog features whatever I found inspiring: it could be a movie, a vinyl sleeve, a business card or a vintage map. Inspiration is everywhere, as long as the type is good!
Web technology is moving too fast for a print guy! When I design the second version in 2012, it was great to have 900px images, even if they were long to load! But today, the blog is not responsive, and we have worked on so many new features.
Before the launch of this Kickstarter, I do a survey to see what users think about it. With this in mind, we want to bring these to the blog :
New images will be 1400px minimum, and if it is a success, we will repost all the images since 2014 at this size.
This will be the inspiration post, ordered by section like "identity", "packaging" or "print". On the actual blog, you can browse images and images! With the new version, you can choose between an "article view" and a "list view", an made the experience the best for you.
Imagine you can order the thousand of images from the blog by tags! You will now choose if you want to see all images, or just the ones from "metal ink", "letterpress" or "wood"!
Added to the actual "inspiration" post, the new version will also refer to images, types, everything you can get online to improve your creations. I will also post some of my own vintages files in high resolution!
It will feature all the videos that for now I only share on social media: printing technics, studio visits, lettering workshops etc...
There is no feeling like visiting a creative space and have a moment with people who share the same passion. Every time I travel, I organize a meeting with local studios, or printers. I share all these stories on the blog, with images I shoot...
THE 4 EBOOKS COLLECTION
For the past weeks, with the help of the Mr Cup Studio team, we create a new set of e-books, especially for this Kickstarter. We design 4 e-books specially adapted for an iPad size, each one with 50 inspirational projects in 4 categories: Branding / Print / Packaging & Instagram!
A SPECIAL LETTERPRESS CARD
During the time of this Kickstarter I will design a Thank you letterpress card! No exact idea what it will be but it will reflect my gratitude to your support!
