About this project
(Lots of backers have been asking about getting more than 1 reward, and that is possible! Just email us with what you're interested in (firstname.lastname@example.org), and pay for the total amount of the multiple rewards when you check out.)
Igloo Letterpress is moving! Our new space is around the corner from our current digs. The new spot – part of the old Worthington hardware building on High Street – doubles our size and lets us bring our retail gift shop and our production studio together under one roof once again.
We want to share our new space with our community. That's what brings us here. We are raising this money to build out a print and binding studio solely dedicated to community creativity. We will use the funds to:
- build a second print studio
- buy a printing press
- dedicate these for community classes, public projects, and personal rentals
Our backer rewards offer a little taste of what's to come, including prints, books, classes, and workshops. In providing our rewards, we are already getting the chance to collaborate with some of the most creative minds in the country, including Emily McDowell, House of Krauss, Genre Creative, and our own Rachel of Imaginary Beast.

Have you heard people say, “Print is dead?” Well, if you’ve ever visited Igloo Letterpress, you know it’s not true. Print is more alive than ever. And Igloo wants to share it with you.
Igloo's founder and owner, Allison Chapman, learned letterpress printing from her Grandad when she was a child. She founded Igloo as a home-business in 1996, and moved it with her family to Columbus in 2008. Since then, it has thrived as a cornerstone in the Columbus creative scene and as a pillar in the Worthington community.
We have been outgrowing our current home for many years now, and have had to turn down opportunities for larger classes, expanded card lines, and more community tours due to our lack of space. But now we have a new home in the old Worthington hardware store and will be able to stretch our legs a bit and grow.
What we are building is a space for us to offer more education, a more varied class list, and a gathering space for creative endeavors. To do this, we need stools and tables, supplies and tools, and (most importantly) a new printing press.
We have already had incredible support, not only from our community, but from Elevate Pictures, who did our (awesome) video, Glodan and Legion for paper, and our whole Crew for the work that went in to the video signs and posters.
What are we going to do with your hard-earned dollars? Every penny will go into building an inviting, friendly, and (most importantly) functional space to create. What does it cost? Here is a general breakdown of our budget so far:
- build a second print studio and dedicate it to community classes, public projects, and personal rentals, equipping it with tables, chairs, lighting, storage and supplies ($22,000)
- buy a printing press dedicated to class work ($15,000)
- producing all the awesome rewards for our supporters ($2000)
- advertising our new community space to columbus ($500)
- offering free walk in projects on farmers market saturdays ($500)
We are overwhelmed by the talent and generosity in our community, and have assembled a great group of rewards. Check our "Updates" often to see images of new rewards as they are released, and the story behind them.
Risks and challenges
When moving a business, stuff happens. And when moving 10 tons of equipment, big stuff happens. We fully expect everything to go smoothly and we expect our dear presses to make the transition as well as we do, but you never know. We will do our best to fulfill the rewards in a timely fashion, and we appreciate your patience if we have to move the dates.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
